anger management help

J-rod wrote: is there any type of OTC medication that can be taken to help controll anger. im so stressed out all the time and i do think i need to get some help. BUT i cannot afford to go to a doctor and get prescriptions. so is there some kind of OTC drug that can help?

also any type of other thing that may help?

i know a couple of you had some experience in this field last time i asked about taking my buddies prescription.

mummy2girls replied: I personally wouldnt take other persons medications. Im not sure about over the counter ones either.

sorry!

C&K*s Mommie replied: I do not know of anything. But I wanted to say that I commend you for wanting to take the initiative to make a change and get help. <<~~ It sounds goofy but it is true.

J-rod replied:
yea i wont take his pills anymore...havent for a couple years.... just something i considered a while ago...but have since realized thats not a good idea.

lisar replied: I dont know if you have a GNC where you live. But if you do you could try there. They normally have something like that. I cant remember the name of it though.

grapfruit replied: Is there a clinic or something that you can go to? I mean usually there's somewhere you can go to get cheap/free Rx like that. Or at least have someone to talk to...

J-rod replied:
health clinic's...but they scare me. lol very shady and creepy. i dont think they deal in anything like this though.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: what about just going to anger management classes? They're usually not that expensive...

J-rod replied:
1. finding the time to. i dont wanna miss anymore time from steph and kyan than i already am. gone from 6 am -5 pm. now.

2. where would i even look to find some as i have considered it if its like a once a week thing.

Kaitlin'smom replied: you could talk to a pharmisit and see what might help, maybe its as simple as an herb or vitiaman you can take.

I did a quick search look into this

on line class

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Maybe, if it's a once a week thing, it could be an ppportunity for both of you to do somethin gyou need to do. You go to your class, maybe go shoot some pool with a buddy afterwards for an hor or two - and Steph can do a girls night type thing...

I know you don't want to spend even less time away from your family... but in order to take care of others, you need to take care of yourself first. hug.gif

ETA - and I'm sure you could maybe call a hotline of some type, to get a number. Some crisis hotlines are pretty good, like a free personal therapist when you're really not in a good place.

boyohboyohboy replied: HI! I also want to commend you for seeking help.
I know there are a few antidepressants that help with anger, but they also might leave you feeling with no feelings....but there isnt anyway to get something like that with out seeing a dr. how about an appt with a general prac. to talk?

Jamison'smama replied: Anger Management classes are generally once a week and held at many social service agencies. You could call your local United Way or look in the phone book for counseling centers and they can usually direct you somewhere to call. As for medication, there are mood enhancers and calming teas but they will not have the effect it sounds like you are looking for. If there really is a depression or anxiety component, you would not be helped with OTC stuff. All family doctors can prescribe basic medications anf you could likely get samples to start ..that's what they are for. Do you have insurance?

Boo&BugsMom replied:
J-rod, my husband works for our local hospital and they do anger management courses and they are not expensive at all. It's more like a support group type thing. I would call your local hospital and see if they offer anything like that. If it's that bad, you should really look into it. As far as meds I have never heard of anything. Maybe you could look for something that helps with stress??? Prayers are up for you. I hope you can get the help you need. You don't want to put your family through that kind of thing and not get the help you need. If it's to better yourself, then I am sure Steph and Kyan would support you doing so. My BIL use to be really bad and out of control, then he took anger management classes and has done a complete 180! If it's anger management you need, just taking some sort of anti-depressant will not help. Anger management is much different than just taking a pill. People who have anger management issues need to learn how to control their anger and popping a pill doesn't help you LEARN to do that. It does not help you deal with conflict resolution effectively. But perhaps if you think your anger is caused by stress, taking something that relieves stress may help along with getting the professional guidance you need. Good luck. smile.gif
