If it helps any, my Doc has had trouble finding my little one's heartbeat too. It took him 10 minutes to find him/her two weeks ago. It doesn't seem like there's room, but they can really hide in there.

It makes it even more difficult if your uterus is tilted (which mine is). Early on, it can make heartbeat detection and u/s pretty tricky however, around 20 weeks it should pop into a normal position.
