adam lamberts ama preformance - yea that wasnt family friendly..*or this

luvbug00 wrote: Mya is all about adam lambert. For those who dont know ( as we are all super busy peoples wink.gif ) he is the runner up from american idol. He is "out" in a big way.
His first album has bee hyped and promoted beyond words.
Last night the American music awards were on. As a treat i let Mya stay up and watch. BAD CHOISE.
I had to see this dude ( I'm gonna be as PG as i can about this discription but if you have morbid interest then you can see the video on youtube or perez hilton page, 5)
He mimics adult activites and makes out with his bandmember. These were acted out with members of the male and female persuasion.
Now for me it isn't whom, male or female, that he does this graphic action with..(although i do have a bone to pick with perez hilton over this which i will go into some other time)
It was the actions going on. My jaw was on the FLOOR. Mya could only say "really? wow." There is sexuality all over music and there were some other seggestive preformances but they were tastefuly done. This was shoving it down your throat and forcing you to swallow it. Honestly I was in too much shock to change the channel.
I guess all i have to say is my issue isn't with adams sexuality. (obviously) I was just really shocked and in a bad way , felt bad for my gay friends who were insulted and felt misrepresented and for me I have no plans to get his cd for mya because of it. sleep.gif

bluebear replied: He tries real hard rolleyes.gif

He was awful. Even Lady Gaga was better

luvmykids replied: I heard about it. I'm super annoyed that he's calling it discrimination because like you said, no matter WHO it was or the sexes of the people involved, there is no way in Hades I'd be ok with my kids seeing that. It was pretty graphic, IMO.

PrairieMom replied: Ok. I just went to Perez site and watched it, and I didn't really think that what they showed was THAT bad, I was actually expecting way worse, and maybe seeing it on live TV Vs the internet makes a difference. I have been hearing about the performance all day and was really expecting something way worse, not that it is anything I would want my kids watching, and I really don't feel the need to watch it again. IMO, all gay-ness and sex-ness aside, it was just plain bad all the way around. rolleyes.gif
All the "bad" stuff I saw wasn't really in close ups or anything, so I would say it was in your face, but not IN YOUR FACE.
At any rate, if I was ever "on" Glambert I'm definitely off him now.
As far as the discrimination thing, I don't really know that forcing it down our throats on national TV is the way to go.

The thing that really ended up disgusting me was what Perez had to say about the whole thing. he lifts Lambert up as a gay roll model, saying that he exactly what gay people need. I beg to differ. I mean, really a gay man simulating "adult activities" with and entire stage of men and women is not going very far to break the stereo types that are keeping Gay people down. mad.gif

luvbug00 replied: it was BAD live, the camera man had enough sense to pan away durring the seggestive activity part.
Tara, Perez's comments drove me nuts, all my Gay friends are in an uproar because as you said it really doesnt shed a positive light on the gay/bi communtiy.

luvmykids replied:
Don't even get me started on him growl.gif If you were to base your opinion of the gay community on his representation, they are arrogant, self centered, self righteous, whiny, insenstive jerks laugh.gif I find it very ironic that a guy who claims to be an unofficial spokesperson for a group of people has done a bang up job of annoying the crap out of everyone else rolling_smile.gif

Celestrina replied: I found it immensly offensive (which is hard to do). If you are going to do stuff like that, save it for the tour. The AMA's are known for not being very kid-friendly, but that was ridiculous.

A&A'smommy replied: I'm offended, but the pussycat dolls offend me too... regardless of what his "sexuality" is (even though i don't agree with it) that was TOOO much!!!

jcc64 replied: I didn't see the performance in question, but I get the picture from the discussion here. From what I remember of him on AI, Adam is a performer of modest talents who likes to compensate for the mediocrity of his voice by being "outrageous." Really, though, anyone old enough to remember David Bowie or Mick Jagger in the 70s would know he's just recycling old material.
As far as the making out or simulated sexuality on an awards show, all I can say is, if you don't want your kids seeing that kind of stuff, you need to turn the tv off, period. If your dd's a fan, you need to explain to her that he's an ADULT entertainer, and if you want guarantees of a family friendly performance, you should be looking elsewhere.

cameragirl21 replied: can somebody post a link, please? Every video I found was disabled due to a copyright issue w/Dick Clark....

cameragirl21 replied: ok, so thanks to Blue Bear, I got a link and just watched the performance.
I actually didn't find it too shocking, it's nothing Madonna hasn't already done and while I certainly don't think it's appropriate for children, I recall watching Madonna when I was WAYYYYY too young to understand half of what she was doing and I don't think I'm scarred for life by it. Not that I'd want any kid of mine watching that performance.
BUT, and I want to preface this by saying that I don't watch AI and haven't seen him perform in the past, but I have heard of him and whatnot, I think his "talent" is questionable at best. The singing was way underwhelming and tbh, I think I may be just as good a singer as he is and that's putting it nicely. The shock factor imo added to Madonna's talent but will not make up for anyone's lack of talent.
Simply put, listening to it was way worse for me than watching it.

Danalana replied: I haven't watched it, but a friend of mine mentioned that she was so disgusted that she couldn't watch it. I don't care who has performed that way in the past...it's filth, no matter who does it.

luvbug00 replied: im not going to debate wither or not one can change the channel. rolleyes.gif
Like i said it was like a train wreck you really were so shocked into watching.

I do get that there is sexuality in music and preformances. But the differance between this and madona is she is simulating adult behavior at a respectful distance and subtlety. She does not RAM her crotch into another persons face.

she has made out with everyone under the sun and that part for me was no big deal. making out you see all day every day kids tv and adults.

jcc64 replied:

She did an S & M "coffee table" book awhile back that was really pornographic. Nothing Adam Lampert did on tv comes even remotely close. So if you're looking for a benchmark of tasteful public displays of sexual behavior, I think you better look elsewhere.

luvbug00 replied: what parents would make the concious choise put out a coffee table book on S&M where their kids would get to it?

This was not a concious desision to let the (in this case my kid) younger fans see adam show his bedroom behviour. I didn't prescrean it because i did think i would have to being there was no reason in my mind that i would have to. Mya went to the american idol concert and she was not the only 9 year old chearing for him. Nor was she probly the only 9 year old who stayed up to watch him.
There was NO forwarning. NONE. I dont even think the AMA people knew Judging by how fast the camera man turned away from the "action".
Back to point, had I known or had any inclination of what he would do she would not have seen his preformance. heard it, but not seen it.

*heard meaning , heard the song

PrairieMom replied:
how did Maya react to it? did she have any clue at all what she was watching?

MommyToAshley replied: I have to agree, I don't think Madonna is the best role model either. I remember watching one performance where every member on stage had to touch her "cones".

I saw clips of Adam's performance on the news, and I have to agree, it was out there and disturbing.

luvmykids replied: http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?ne...43872>1=28102
Here's what he's saying about it now. I think it's interesting that he's not sorry but admits it was overboard and that he didn't rehearse some of what he did....in my mind it's because he knew they wouldn't allow it.

BAC'sMom replied: I haven't watched the video from the AMA awards but after looking up the lyrics of the song there would be no way I would watch the awards or be listening to his music.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Personally I think he is disgusting...and it has nothing to do with his 'sexuality'. I totally agree with those who have said he was mediocore at best. IMO if anyone else (*straight*) had mimicked the same sexual act on TV there would be a massive outcry. I think it sucks that people pull stunts (and make no mistake that is all this was) like this and then hide behind the veil of discrimination when they get called out on it. I seriously doubt his homosexuality in the first place...it all seems way to contrived! dry.gif rolleyes.gif dry.gif

luvbug00 replied: Tara,
Mya was laughing at me because litterly my jaw was on the floor. She hasnt said much about it at all. Not even durring the preformance. No questions as to what he was doing. She knew that he was doing somthing that she shouldnt have seen but didn't feel the need to question it. The kiss with the backup dude ment nothing because my gay friends kiss in frount of her. (not that passionately though.) it's nothing she hasnt seen before.
But I guess i was right that noone saw that preformance comming, not even adam! rolling_smile.gif
