You guys are gonna laugh at me..... - but....
My2Beauties wrote: I'm a total idiot when it comes to these things, since Hanna has started daycare my eyes have been opened quite a bit as to the expectations of a 3/4 year old child. So I always used to dress her, never did even question whether she could be doing this herself, of course she puts her own arms through the shirt and what not, but I always just did it for her. Then, I guess in the past 2 months, I've noticed her saying mommy I can put on my own jacket, my own shoes, my own pants etc...Ok....great, I never even thought about it. Then a couple of other things have festered that are really big girl things and have opened my eyes, I'm fine with all of this...but I question this last one.
The other day Hanna went #2 and I noticed that she got up and was getting ready to get some toilet paper and she had a little bitty piece and I knew it wasn't going to do any good I asked her was she ready for me to wipe her butt She said mommy Tabatha (the sitter) said that I am old enough to learn to wipe my own butt now Really??? I swear I don't remember how old I was but at what time did you allow your kids to do this? My DH agrees with the sitter but I guess I don't because I am so anal (no pun intended) about hygiene, especially in regards to this sort of thing because girls can get major infections and blah blah blah. I'm really really weird about her wiping herself, what if she got it on her hands...I know I can wash them, but eew! ...Am I weird? I am so used to being in control over things like that (what she wears, puttin gon her clothes, etc...) that I never even thought about her being able to do it herself. She obviously needs assistance but not for me to do it for her. I can let go of the getting dressed thing but the butt wiping thing....I don't know. LOL. What age was your child when you started letting them wipe their own butt?
Sorry I am laughing at this whole post!
My2Beauties replied: I wanted to add, Hanna is bad about not wiping herself when she goes #1, I have to constantly remind her, so this comes into play too when wiping herself with #2, I keep thinking she'll get lazy like she does with #1 and well I can deal with #1 but the not wiping with #2 is a whole different ballgame.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Kaitlin learned with potty training, so she has been doing it by herself for a long time. Now if she could just remember to flush..... thats what she has gotten lazy at.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: KAty was always one to do things "All by KATY's self" so I guess I am the opposite in expecting a lot more independence. MAtt started preschool 3 days after his 3rd b-day and the wiping thing was what worried me most. he was pretty good and started doing everything on his own within a couple weeks. I don't remember if Katy was even fully PT'd before she wold freak that I was going to wipe her....everything always had to be done by herself.
My2Beauties replied: Oh man, please don't tell me I'm the only mom who wipes her 4 year old's butt??
booey2 replied: I guess I am there with you, Thomas only recently (just turned 6 in November) started to wipe his own bum. He would do his business and yell for us at the top of his lungs he was ready for us. Now we just go in there to check. LOL It is hard for us to let them grow up.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Sorry girl... mine wiped their own butts as soon as they were potty trained.... which was 20 mths, 22mths and 23 mths... lol
what about getting those wipes designed for that? and work on proper hand washing........ lol
amynicole21 replied: Sophia will ask me to wipe her sometimes, but mostly does it herself. She doesn't do a GREAT job at it though, and we often find skids in her underwear
My2Beauties replied: I have those, but it only makes it easier on me Those Kandoo things or Kadoo whatever they are called. Yeah it's less messy for....me
PrairieMom replied: No, I still wipe Ben's butt. Not by choice. The kids is 4 1/2 and still needs help. We are getting to the point where I just check, and he does okay about half the time.
Brias3 replied: Don't feel bad- Mase is four too, and I still check him nearly every time. We do keep wet wipes in the bathroom though, so he typically knows to use that too.
My3LilMonkeys replied: My kids both have wiped their own butt from day 1 - I was afraid if I started doing it for them they'd never let me stop . I do check Madison's still (she is good about 75% of the time and slowly getting better) but Brooke does it on her own with no problems. They are both very good about washing their hands after so the hygiene doesn't bother me.
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: reminds me of a little boy I babysat when I was in highschool. I think he was around 6 and he'd scream at the very top of his lungs 'PEGGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WIPE MY BUTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' I think the whole block heard him.
mckayleesmom replied: McKaylee does it herself.
A&A'smommy replied: This post is a little old but I'm just getting around to seeing it..anyway I still wipe alyssa I'm such a freak about it and she is also lazy about wiping after number 1 s I'm affraid she will get lazy with number 2
bawoodsmall replied: With the potty training here. Trust me though sometimes she does not do a good job. I tell her you have to wipe twice for pee and keep wiping till you dont see any poop on #2. Sick but I cant wipe her butt. I dont want to wipe my own butt I sure as heck am not wiping hers too.
gr33n3y3z replied: I showed them once and told them its up to them from there on out lol Then they would say come check so I would but nope they did it until they got it right
