Yoga/Pilates?
coasterqueen wrote: Can one really lose weight with yoga or pilates? How? I picture it to be some like relaxing technique thingy and not really burning calories like one would think sweating profusely away on a treadmill or something (which sounds so much more work than pilates???)
3_call_me_mama replied: Honestly Karen yes you can. I HATE excercise but enjoy pilates i have lost the weight that i have since Nov 1 doing SImply ball with pilates. It's great for toning and also helps the weightloss. My stomach always KILLS after but i have a ton of energy and really feel good about it when i am done. It doesn't get our heart racing like cardio does but it definately works, at least in my situation it did. Plus you can do it al home without forking out al kind s of dough !
coasterqueen replied: Hmmm, maybe I'll look into that. I love my tae bo tapes but I am always looking for something other to add in to spice things up. Thanks.
Jamison'smama replied: Yes you can--my most fit and most well defined friend does power yoga---not the real name but I can't remember the name--maybe Ashtanga??
Kaitlin'smom replied: I am getting ready to start yoga as one of my workouts. I really need to reshape my stomach.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I have a denise austin pilates dvd... I only did it a couple times because it was hard and I gave up. But it was a lot of fun too and I can totally see how you can lose weight doing it.
MyLuvBugs replied: Before I PG with Lorelei I lost 26 lbs doing pilates 4 days a week. And that was in a 2 1/2 month time span. It really does work. It stretches the muscles, and teachs you to breathe properly, so that your muscles get the maximum amount of oxygen. This intern helps your muscles burn the fat more effiently. It's also kinda like resistance training in some moves b/c you're using your own body weight. This helps to build more muscle to burn more fat. Viscious cycle.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: I used to do pilates while I was on Weight Watchers. You really can loose weight doing it. I also have my Tae Bo as well. The great thing about the place I am living is the community center has a work out room that overlooks a playroom. Jade can go in there and play while I workout. I plan on taking advantage of this when Jordan gets a bit older.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I have never tried pilates but I can tell you that I am usually sweating up a storm by the time I'm done with my yoga dvd! It is NOT easy for a klutz like me. I love it for the good stretching that I get with it - makes me feel good all day long.
ETA: If you still have doubts, maybe alternate? I currently hit the gym 3 days a week (treadmill usually) and do my yoga 2.
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking of doing is alternating. I know the last time I did Tae Bo I got bored after a while so alternating will definitely help.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I just started a Yoga DVD tonight learing the moves and just that I feel better, I love the way it streches me. I plan on alternating between DVD and the lifewalker and when I can get to the gym.
mammykat replied: I think ( I do that a lot, I think) that it works with proper diet. It's a two-pronged road or something like that. Proper diet means not all the diet food with additives, but natural food. Butter over margarine. Real ice cream over nutrasweet-enhanced. I just don't know what most of the chemicals do...there I go thinking too much again...
