Would you ever........... - sell your wedding dress
moped wrote: I am currently trying to de clutter my house and selling a ton of stuff on kijiji........so would you sell your wedding dress? If so, would you have it dry cleaned or sell it a bit cheaper to allow for cleaning? Thoughts?
I love the dress, but will NEVER wear it again obviously and am not really "attached" to it.
I paid 1200.00 for it in 2003. What would you list it for? Typical strapless, beadwork, train, corset tie back etc.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I would. I'm not the kind to get sentimentally attached to that sort of thing and I don't like clutter. I would say have it cleaned so that if there are any spots or anything that won't come out you can make the buyer aware of the imperfections before they buy.
Can you try looking to see what similar styles are selling for these days? If you paid 1200.00 for it I would say list it for 600-800 or so...
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I would. I don't have anyone to hand it down to, and besides, I think the styles change too fast anyway, so who would want to wear it? I like the dress, but I'm like you, it's just taking up room. My mom already had mine drycleaned and stored in a box. It is still sitting under our stairs in storage in the CO house we haven't sold yet. I may just leave it there!!!
You could maybe get a little more if you said you had it drycleaned and pressed. Try Craigslist. Or consignment stores. $600 (half) seems high to me. Not because I don't think the dress is worth it, but people want a deal. So maybe 1/3 of the retail cost. David's sells new dresses starting at $99, so you're competing with that even if yours is such a higher quality. People unfortunately just want a deal regardless. Unless you have a Vera Wang or name people are willing to pay a lot for.
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: I would NEVER sell my wedding dress!
mom21kid2dogs replied: Olivia uses it for dress up!!!
doublebubble replied: I wouldn't EVER sell it!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I would never sell mine, even if I didn't have any daughters. Who knows if Allie would even want to wear it when she gets married. But I'd never be able to part with it anyways.
Even if I did want to sell it it wouldn't go for much - I paid around $200 for mine in 2003.
moped replied: I am just thinking that drycleaning is way too much and maybe isn't worth it.....
Cece00 replied: I dont know. I wouldnt sell it now, but who knows in the future? I have a daughter, but I dont believe kids usually wear parents wedding attire anyway, they usually want a new one. I might do something else with it (have it made into something for her wedding...something "old" etc a handkerchief or something, I dont know...) who knows?
gr33n3y3z replied: I would sell it and make a few 100.00 on it Mine is up in the attic all nasty and crap along with the shoes
I have the cake knife and and top along with the flowers thats good enough for me oh and the card bag
Boo&BugsMom replied: I don't like the thought of selling my wedding dress, but to be honest, what am I really going to do with it? I didn't even pay for it, my mother did. It is currently at her house and we have talked off and on about what to do with it. If I could get money for it, I probably would sell it. Until she brings it up, I don't even remember that she has it. There are many other things I have from our wedding that I cherish, so that is enough for me. The amount, not sure. My dress was from the previous season so my mom only paid $500 for it. It's got SO many beads and is super heavy.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I actually rented mine so.... sure
I have expensive taste and fell in love with a designer dress that retailed for like $7500 paid $500 to rent it for the night. it was perfect!
boyohboyohboy replied: I gave mine to good will...I kept the best part of the wedding..DH
Brias3 replied: Aww My thoughts exactly.
I actually gave my dress away too. I'm not at all emotionally attached to things like that, and I figured that it would be way out of style for Aliyah to ever wear. My dress was not super formal though- we got married on the beach, so it was a beautiful, yet more casual dress anyhow.
Celestrina replied: I don't think I could sell it, but I would consider giving it to a charity. I'm just afraid how my family would react - they tend to be more emotionally linked to things like that. My topper on the other hand stays with us.
sparkys2boys replied: I would sell it.. lol.. and am thinking that reminds me that mine is stuffed in a closet some place
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Nope I don't think I could sell it or get rid of it. I'm sentimental about things like that. My Nana paid for it, and I don't know what dh's feelings are about it either.
lovemy2 replied: I would NEVER sell mine either - two reason - one I AM attached to it - I loved my dress - loved, loved, loved my dress.....and the other reason - we used my Mom's wedding dress to make Olivia's baptismal gown - so even if Olivia never wears my dress - which is OK - you never know what other tradition can be passed on from it....
Celestrina replied: That's so sweet!
moped replied: Well this is what I listed - I talked to my mom and she suggested to sell all the wedding stuff for one price.....so here is my add and I think I asked $500.00 for everything but would take $400.00

HuskerMom replied: I don't think I could get rid of mine. Dh bought it for me and even though it's been in a box after it got dry cleaned right after my wedding 7 years ago, it's got sentimental value for me. Maybe Summer would want it when she gets married or when she gets bigger she could use it to play dress up.Summer is the only person I'd give it to.
lisar replied: I wont sell my dress. It was handmade and there isnt another one like it in the world. But I know lots of people who sell them. Good luck
Teesa®© replied: In a heartbeat
grapfruit replied: I don't know, let me wear it first!
