Now, you see a skunk in your yard, are you going to get close enough to find out if it is descented? Even if you know the skunk, would you try to catch it? Although I have seen a tame skunk as part of an animal show, I still think this is a joke.

cameragirl21 replied: I have seen many pet skunks, they are very cute and sweet animals. I don't think it's a joke, someone's pet skunk got away. I wouldn't be afraid to approach a skunk as you can normally tell if it's tame...if it's not a pet it won't let you approach it but a tame skunk is used to being around humans. Also, a skunk warns you before you get skunked, it's not just an evil, stink spraying animal as many seem to think.
Mollie, I like you an all but it's not very becoming for an environmentalist to wish extinction on any animal species as all are vital to the ecosystem...except cockroaches of course, I wish they would become extinct....

I know, but they are the only animal I wish would disappear forever. I don't like spiders, or bugs in general, but I wouldn't want them gone.

I think you would like skunks if you got to see them up close, they really are very nice animals that just have a bad reputation because they emit odors as self defense. A skunk will only skunk you if you have him cornered, they will try to get away first but if you corner him then he (or she) will lift up its tail and once you see them doing that, look out! But if you are walking around in the forest and come upon one, unless you startle the daylights out of it, it won't skunk you. I've photographed many a skunk, even albino skunks, they are very gentle, soft and sweet. I'm sure you'd come to like them if you got to pet and hold one.
Cockroaches on the other hand are nasty little suckers and maybe up north they don't seem like a problem to you but here in South Florida they are a real pest. So are termites, while we're at it, let's wish those into extinction too.

redchief replied: We probably would try to find and return the animal based on recent experience. We're currently rehabbing a racing pigeon that showed up after the coastal storm on Monday.

redchief replied: I was going to release him about 40 miles away today, but the pigeon 9-1-1 center asked us to hold on to him until Tuesday. So Lisa bought a cage for him and he's enjoying living with his adoptive family, at least for now.

This reminds me, my DH's cousin had a b'day party for her daughter at a skating rink one night. Well her mom was there and the whole family and for the life of me the smell in the whole place was horrid, I mean making me sick. So we're standing there and finally I'm like it smells like skunk bad in here, wonder if one got someone near here, his cousin goes oh yeah, my mom was leaving her house today to come to the party and one ran in her house and let out it's odor Oops talking about open mouth insert foot. I said I'm sorry I didn't know, she goes oh no I agree it's horrible, she said her mom took like 3 showers, showed up late to the party and everything and she couldn't get the smell off of her
