Would this offend you?
coasterqueen wrote: Today is Administrative Professionals day, and in the past it used to be called Secretaries day. The first year I started here I got a $100 gift certificate to my favorite nursery and 2 BEAUTIFUL rose bushes. I've been at my current place of employment for 6 years now and some years I've gotten something, usually flowers and some years I haven't gotten anything. I never expect anything because I'm not a secretary so that's fine. Today I got a BEAUTIFUL bouquet of flowers from my boss and the card said thank you for all your hard work. I told him I was very thankful for the flowers and it was a very thoughtful gesture. He mentioned he was worried I would be offended to receive something on Secretary's Day. I told him no I wasn't, that I don't consider myself a secretary because I'm not but since they call it Administrative professionals day I could see why he would want to get me something. I also said "why would I be offended if you are willing to buy me something? I'd never get offended by you buying me something. Matter of fact you can do it more often if you'd like. I can make up all kinds of 'days' to receive gifts." He said he was glad I was not offended and then told me about how at another job he had where he had an actual secretary the lady got offended when he gave her a gift on that day because she didn't consider herself a secretary.
I'm on the I don't care attitude because I LOVE receiving gifts. Edit to say if I'm going to be offended it should be that I haven't gotten something every year and some years I've gotten more than others. Darn! I should have said that to him! I missed a golden opportunity. Way to go Karen.
mckayleesmom replied: That lady is crazy.....he can call me his secretary anytime....I love presents...
mom21kid2dogs replied: Where I used to work we had a day called "Everybody Else Appreciation Day". It solved the problem nicely!
CantWait replied: No I wouldn't. If you're in a support position, I think it's a nice gesture to show gratitude for the work you do.
My boss bought me some chocolate today. I had no idea what it was for, I totally forgot what today was.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Heck no! I don't care if it's national slob day, I love presents!
BAC'sMom replied: Nope not at all.
moped replied: I would not be offended one single bit! And my assistant got something today and she just liked the present
MyLuvBugs replied:
Ya know I totally agree, but to me that day is more of a "worker appreciation" kind of day, so even if you are a secretary, co-worker, employee of anykind it's just nice that you get any kind of thanks from your boss....
Side note: I worked for a photo studio in Scottsday, AZ right after College and the boss lady was a total wacko (sweet but a little ). Anyway, each year on "secretary day" she'd hire a massage therapist to come to our office and give us each a 1 hour massage..... HEAVEN!! She may have been a nut job, but that was the best gift ever! lol
My3LilMonkeys replied: Not at all.
luvmykids replied: Who gets offended when someone shows appreciation? Heck, call me whatever you want if it gets me a gift!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Ditto!
C&K*s Mommie replied: too. A gift is a gift, say "thank you" and keep your mouth shut.
ashtonsmama replied: NO! Free gifts?!?
Nina J replied: I wouldn't be offended, I'd be happy
Boys r us replied: Gimmmmmme some presents and call me whatever you want!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
amynicole21 replied: This actually happened to me a few years ago. The president of my company told (forced) my co-workers to get me flowers. We were basically equals, though I was the only girl. It was a nice gesture I guess, but I wasn't thrilled
Kaitlin'smom replied: no it would not, I would love a gift. maybe for a massage
My2Beauties replied: I would love a gift for any day!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Nope no offense here! I am trying to figure out though why that woman would have been offended to be called a secretary anyway Everyone knows the secretaries have all the power ....I mean you are nice to the secretary at the doctor's office to try and get a return call...the secretary at the spa to get a good appointment....ETC.
holley79 replied: People are weird sometimes. I would never be offended. I think it would be awesome. We need a gift we are all the deputies secretaries. There are a lot of them. LOL
