Winter weather, dry skin, lotions
coasterqueen wrote: Okay, please share with me your FAVORITE lotion you can't live without to keep your skin nice and soft during the harsh winter months. I swear every year at this time (Thanksgiving) my skin starts getting so rough and I can't stand it. I have dry skin naturally but it's 10x worse in the winter. I can't stand it, it's driving me crazy already. I NEVER can find the right lotion. I think it's because lotions make my skin crawl because they feel so greasy.
Any help? PLEASE.
Jamison'smama replied: My Dr. swears by Cetaphil lotion/cream--comes in a jar--he says just scoop it up and use it wherever needed--I never bought it--it's about 12.00 for a large jar but this winter seems especially bad on the kids and even me so I think I will go ahead and get it---he said it's the best for even their ecxema skin.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I love Vaseline's Healthy Body Complexion. It's not super thick or greasy, but it's the only lotion that has ever worked for me without any complaints. And believe me I've tried almost all of them! I have super dry skin too and this time of year it drives me nuts.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: I need some ideas myself. Thanks for posting this Karen! I have lived in a tropical climate so long my skin is just a mess. My legs and feet are the worst. I forgot how dry skin can get in the winter.
jacobsmama replied: I use lubriderm dry/sensitive skin. It works great I can also use it on my son b/c his skin gets so dry the dermatologist reccommended it to us!
jdkjd replied: Another solution is to have a good scrub in the shower and put baby oil on while you are still wet-then towel off.
Makes it seem like your skin is soft as butter but you aren't greasy. Just try it once.
If you don't like the baby oil-just do the scrub, pat dry and put on your favorite lotion. The problem is that if you don't exfoliate-the lotion can't absorb into your skin.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone. Jenn, I probably don't exfoliate well . Taking a less than 5 minute shower these days wondering which kid is getting in to what makes exfoliating a bit tough to do. But I will definitely give it a try.
I'll also look into these lotions. Thanks everyone.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I was gonna say baby oil, after your shower then pat dry, I need to do this my self been slacking always worked wonders for me. I usually get the gel
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I swear by the walmart brand of Aveeno. It has oatmeal in it and helps me not itch. And it doesn't feel greasy either.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Bath and Body Works- Lay it on Thick is my favorite on particularly dry faces we will use Aquaphor (?sp) at night and it is always better by morning. It is also recomended for excema and treating wind burns
eta we also tried the Aquaphor on Matt when his lips were so chapped they were bleeding last year, after we had tried everything else w/o luck. He was perfect in like 2 days (gotta love Colorado and the complete lack of humidity)
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Living in Colorado here too...so I suffer from dry skin year round! I have been using Eucerin - Daily Replenishing Lotion for many years now! I've tried everything else and it's like what you said, either too oily or makes me still itch. So this is the only brand that works for me and it's light feeling and absorbs quickly. I put it on when I'm still damp after a shower. Works all day! It's also fragrance free and dermatologist recommended. Buy it at any drugstore.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I was going to post the same thing. The skin on my legs looks like a crocodile.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I am bumping this up b/c I wanted to tell you I bought the Equate version of Eucerin and I LOVE IT!!!! It is absolutely the ONLY thing that works on my horrible dry skin/excema in the winter. It was only $3.97 or something like that for a big jar of it at Wal Mart. I use it on the kids, too and it works so well. Maddie's skin is a lot like mine (bless her heart).
I also use salt scrub or sugar scrub in the bath or shower and it works well. It already has the oil in it. It makes my skin SUPER soft.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Thanks for the tip! The lotion I use is $5 dollars for a bottle and it doesn't last long! I'll have to give the equate stuff a try. I hate winter dry skin.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: This lasts a long time. It is thick and a little greasy feeling at first, but it soaks right in and leaves my skin so soft (same with the kids skin). I hate that greasy feeling, too. I wasn't sure about it at first, but I really like it after using it for days. The Eucerin brand is about $14 for the same size tub.
coasterqueen replied: I might have to try that. I ended up buying Aveeno because I've liked their other lotions. So far, when I do remember to use it it works great!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I use the Equate version of Cetaphil cleanser for my body and it works just as good! Cetaphil is usally around $9 a bottle, so this is a much cheaper way to go. This is also a great subsitute for soap. It takes awhile to get used to because it doesn't lather up, but the dermo said believe me, it's working!
I'll have to try Equate in the Eucerin lotion version since I go through that stuff so quickly! Sam's carries both Cetaphil and Eucerin and so you can sometimes get a deal for a huge bottle, but it's not much of a deal! Just FYI.
