Windows XP or Vista? - Need some help.
MoonMama wrote: Ok so I posted that my laptop was all messed up....it was getting HOT super fast and freezing up and such, then the icing on the cake and I do take full responsibility for it because I knew better. Braedin tossed his toy cell phone at it and messed up the screen. Long story short it would cost $400 to fix it which honestly just isn't worth it. Anyway DH said I could get a new one in a couple of weeks, but here is the issue they ALL come with Windows Vista. So can someone tell which is better Vista or XP, and what the big differences are if any. I could always buy and put XP on it, but I'm wondering what others opinions on Windows Vista are.
A&A'smommy replied: well I don't really know what the differences are because I haven't really messed with vista.. my dh who is a computer guys seems to like it but it still has some bugs in it.
Teesa®© replied: Everybody I know who's had vista hated it and went immediately back to XP. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to use it.
Have you asked if XP can be put on it?
Insanemomof3 replied: My computer came with Vista, I was scared about that, but I actually like it fine.
Teesa®© replied: Did you ask it for permission to post that?????
My3LilMonkeys replied: I'm not a big fan of Vista, but I haven't used it a lot either. I'm just so used to XP though.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Vista was just on a list of gadgets to hold off on. My dad (who is a computer guru) told me when we got our new computer that Vista was not 'safe' yet that it had too many bugs to work out. XP is supposed to be enough for home and small office use anyway. Congrats on your new computer! I love ours!
sparkys2boys replied: We have xp and I love it. I have heard some nasty horror stories about vista, but who's knows whats true and what's not.
stella6979 replied: When we were searching for a new computer, I asked my brother for help, cause he does all kinds of IT work and knows a lot about the software and he said to stay away from Vista. He said there are still a ton of bugs that need to be worked out.
coasterqueen replied: It's really hard to describe the differences, for me at least. I hated Vista the first week I used it but after that I fell for it. I LOVE Vista. The only problem I'm finding is my Vista computers aren't "networking" very well with my XP computers. Windows just came out with a service pack for Vista, though, so I'm hoping after I have time to mess with it I'll get my probs fixed.
I would take Vista any day over XP - I especially like the better quality graphics it has. It just has a learning curve and you have to be willing to stick with it.
coasterqueen replied: Oh, I will say that certain programs won't work well with Vista, so you have to get Vista compatible programs. SOME programs there are ways around it, though
MoonMama replied: Thanks guys, I'm going to have to see about getting it with XP for sure.
A&A'smommy replied: I have a friend who also has vista and HATES it, it doesn't stay on their network very well so it kicks her off the internet a LOT. And that is NOT the only that does that my husband has had to reset several clients computer networks several times anyway they just put it out too soon.. xp was in the making right after 98 came out then they put out ME (which was TERRIBLE) and they just didn't spend enough time on vista
redchief replied: This machine has Vista. I've had no real issues with it save one... It won't talk to my older digital camera. The XP driver doesn't work and there isn't one for Vista since Sony no longer supports the camera. Otherwise the only real issue I've had between Vista and XP are the differences in the way things are displayed. I'm simply not used to the interface yet. It feels a little "dumbed down," but once you get into the administration areas, everything appears to be there.
One thing I noted, however, Vista is a RAM pig. You need a gig of RAM, IMO, to run it without bogging down into page file hell. It's extremely graphical, more so than XP. As far as stability and security goes, most of the issues have been taken care of in the first service patch, which was released end of last month.
