Why do some women throw up after - delivery? Sorry if TMI
luvmykids wrote: I'm just curious, after Macie I threw up forever it seemed until they gave me some kind of medicine, and people kept telling me how common it was but I never thought to ask why that sometimes happens?
My2Beauties replied: You know to be hoenst, I have no clue. My friend threw up during her labor but not after birth. I heard vomiting is a sign of severe pain sometimes. When DH got his kidney stone, he started vomiting. Having the stone isn't what made him vomit, it's not a symptom but it was a reaction from the pain per the doctor at the hospital, because I specifically asked why he vomited so horribly?? So that COULD be why, but I'm not saying it is.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I was so sick after both of my kids. I think it has something to do with the trauma your body goes through. I'm just a nauseous person anyway. I get sick so easily. I vomited for a long time after I had Ethan, but I also had a severe migraine. I couldn't even hold him for awhile.
BAC'sMom replied: I have not had that problem. I did have severe shakes all over my body after I had Callum; it lasted for way over an hour. Now that was freaky I was to scared to hold him because I thought I would drop him.
luvmykids replied: That's interesting....I wondered if the fact that it didn't happen with the twins but did happen with Macie was related to the fact that I had an epi with them but went natural with her which would make sense because I felt so much more pain with her.
Aimee, I didn't even think of the trauma, it is a heavy duty thing
And Jimmie, I had the shakes too
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I had an epi both times. I also had the shakes.
A&A'smommy replied: I didn't after but I did after I got the epi... probably for two TOTALLY different things!! I had the shakes SOOO bad after the section until I slept for a while!!!
BAC'sMom replied: I had an epi with two of the three kids but never got sick.
gr33n3y3z replied: after all my kids were born I had a huge Pepsi and food waiting for me yummm I was so hungry
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Yeah I'd agree it's probably a trauma thing. I got really sick during labor with Andrew, but as soon as I was done pushing I quit throwing up. With Allie I felt nauseous during contractions, but never threw up. I guess people's bodies just deal with things differently.
lovemy2 replied: I never threw up but definately had the shakes after my section - was told it had to do with the spinal and once it began to wear off they went away....
ediep replied: I threw up during labor with Jason and not with Emma. I also got the shakes after delivery both times
redchief replied: Yeah, but everyone knows you ain't right.
If memory serves me right the doc told us it's common in the same way that it's common for distance runners to vomit. Giving birth is hard work and it puts a lot of stress on the digestive system, sometimes so much that the stomach simply decides it would be better without food for a few hours.
luvmykids replied: Hmmmm..... I guess the fact I had an empty stomach with the twins helped. Maybe the box of donuts pre-delivery wasn't so smart
kimberley replied: hmm i think i might agree with the trauma idea. i had an epi with my first three. was eating (starving actually) and up and about with the first three and i was fine for the first couple of hours after i had K, but it hit me later that night. i thought i was gonna die with the afterpains and vomitting. it was worse than the natural, fast birth in my kitchen! LOL
hoosier momma replied: Pain, trauma and shock cause your body to produce extra bile. Thus, the extra bile in your stomach is what causes you to vomit after or during labor. Totally gross, but that is what my labor nurse told me. I vomitted right before I started pushing and then I was fine. Weird how our bodies work.
Mommy2BAK replied: Intresting... I never knew that women actually vomit during/after labor. I never did with Blakely but now I'm scared to death about this next one. Maybe the fact that I had a 12 hour labor had something to do with it since I hadn't had anything to eat in over 24 hours.
lisar replied: I never threw up but I did get the shakes pretty bad with both of them. I had an epi c-sections.
hopefulmomtobe replied: I threw up with my first...oh it was just an aweful labor anyway, but the nurse said it was because you are in so much pain that your body looses function.
My other two I didn't throw up but I did have the shakes really really bad with the 3rd. I am hoping that this one is a piece of cake!! UGH!
DansMom replied: I guess I'm more like Lisa---I got a little bit of dry heaves during transition, but just once. After delivery I was exhausted but starving and gobbled up a turkey sandwich in about two seconds.
