Why did he do this? (Gavin)
coasterqueen wrote: Gavin has done excellent since we brought him home over 15 days ago. He's not peed or poo'ed in the house at all - waits until we take him for his walk - like always. WELL last night after I walked him and he had already peed, about a 1/2 hour later he created a FLOOD all over my foyer floor. I had him in the basement all day yesterday because I was afraid it was going to rain - he goes down there a lot over night or during the day. When I went down there last night after the 1st incident (went down there to get something) I noticed a FLOOD all over my carpet.
Why oh why is he doing this now? Is he doing this for some reason. I just can't believe he had to go. HELP!

also that woolite spot cleaner really really works great and you dont have to be on your hands knees scrubbing.. tess hasnt been able to find the same spot twice.
I dont know if this helps but I was just thinking, (although tess is young and has a much less controled bladder then gavin) but for us, she goes and then I run her around and it takes a min for her to go again and usually I dont let her in again until she goes three times..
and she doesnt seem to be able to empty unless we run and get her excited..and at night its harder because she is tired and just wants to lay down on the grass and sleep.. were both of gavin's accidents at night?
coasterqueen replied: Thanks, Stacy.
We've tried that Woolite thingy and it doesn't do a darn thing on our carpet. We have light creme colored carpets and that thing just doesn't get out the stains. We need to have the carpet cleaner come out anyways, we usually have someone come clean the carpets every 2 to 3 months.
When we take Gavin for a walk, it's a pretty long walk and he does go 4 or 5 times (pee) and then poos once before we go back inside. The only time he's ever gone just one time on a walk is when he REALLY has to go. So we are doing that well.
No, the 1st accident that I didn't notice until the second one was during the day while we were at work. He is inside a lot while we are at work and has never had an accident and I took him on his normal walk yesterday and he urinated frequently and seemed to have his bladder empty. The second accident was about a 1/2 hour after I walked him and again he peed just fine then too. He did the second one right in Ryan's eye sight too. It was strange. ETA: So one was during day while we were at work and the other one was about 7 pm at night.
A&A'smommy replied: Spot Shot is awesome for cleaning after kids and pets even takes out old stains. I really don't know why he is doing this now here is a good website with some potty training tips

coasterqueen replied: I must have the only carpets in the world that stuff doesn't work on. Because it doesn't for us. I didn't even want to buy the stuff, but Ryan thought it would work. Now he curses the thing.
A&A'smommy replied: wow thats crazy I have seen that stuff work miracles. Did you use the bottle or the aerasol can?
A&A'smommy replied: OHH i just thought of something white vinegar (which is great for a LOT of other things too) will get out stains and smell
coasterqueen replied: Well it came with whatever at first, aerosol maybe? Then I think the second time we bought the aersol. That will be the last we buy of it.
luvmykids replied: I second the vinegar, especially for one you can't catch right away, the other things will only get the surface but a liquid like vinegar will go down to the padding.
mckayleesmom replied: He might be mad at you for putting him in the basement.. Sometimes dogs act out.
coasterqueen replied: He loves our basement. No seriously, it's a finished basement, with big couches, etc that he loves to sleep on. He slept down there every night for the first 1.5 weeks and during the day as well.
Who knows.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks Jessy Ann and Monica. I will definitely use the vinegar on there because he's a big dog with lots of pee therefore I KNOW it soaked farther down into the padding.
paradisemommy replied: Pua (our dog who is 4 this month) did kinda the same thing - we had her for a good couple weeks - she was so good about going outside and going potty. One night i was up late exercising to a dvd - afterwards, i sat down at the table to cool down and to drink some water - she got up, stretched, and right there squatted and peed - i was LIVID - screamed NO and put her outside. I still have NO idea what in the heck she was thinking. She hit that spot a couple more times and I finally had to rent a steam cleaner to get that sucker out - after that, i would bring a treat with me ever time we went out for a walk and when she'd do her stuff - pee or poo - i would praise her up and give her a treat.
Also, when you take him for a long walk or run - as a rule of thumb, make sure you take him out an hour after you get back home because it takes about that long for him to be able to empty his bladder after the long walk and water when you get home. He's not a puppy so he should have no problem holding his bladder for at least that long.
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, I never thought I'd be praising an animal for going pee or poo. But I do. I also thought I would never be saying "come on Gavin, go pee (or poo)" to a dog.
We are taking him out several more times each night, have always, so still not sure what happened there. He gets taken out one last time around 10 - 11 pm, so we don't have to rush in the morning to take him out. I usually get up at 6 am, get a shower, do my hair, get dressed then take him out for his walk about 6:30 am. I also never thought I'd be outside at 11:30 at night in the dark in my robe walking around saying "Gavin, come on, go pee so I can go to sleep".
redchief replied: Hmmm... I don't know. Get a cat, have the cat read the dog's mind (I swear they can and do), and ask the cat what's gotten into the stupid dog (you always have to say "stupid dog" to a cat because they KNOW dogs are dumb but don't think we get it). The cat will clear things up quickly, then will go back to pretending that you don't exist until dinner time.
I'm sorry, Karen. I couldn't resist. I hope he gets over this quickly for your carpet's (and sanity's) sake.
kit_kats_mom replied: Good Lord Karen! You scared the patootie out of me. I come here to check in after being gone for...well, forever practically, and I see you posting again. The first sentence I read is "Since we brought him home 15 days ago". I seriously thought you guys had another baby.
coasterqueen replied: Hey stranger. Oh gosh no. No more kids for us. Just animals. Lol. Great to see you!!!
