I just sat down and started planning my garden. wanna know what I am planting?
I have raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, asparagus, and rhubarb in, all should be ready to be harvested this year. It takes a while for those plants to mature...
I'm gonna plant: Red onions white onions Pickeling cucumbers potatoes corn peas cherry tomatoes regular tomatoes red peppers orange peppers yellow peppers regular cucumbers broccoli
dill chives garlic
So... who wants to come over in 4 months and help? spring is a loooooooooong way away. I always get garden fever in Jan.
My2Beauties replied: I'm ready for Spring but not for gardening just because I hate cold weather. Sorry I wouldn't be any help gardening, I defintely do not have a green thumb!
mckayleesmom replied: Sounds interesting . I would love to plant a garden, but they confuse me.. Plant this in this type of weather...Plant this in that type of weather...Mind boggling to me.
MommyToAshley replied: I want enough snow to build a snowman first. We've had the freezing cold weather, the cold wind, and the ice. All the yucky stuff of winter without the fun stuff. I want to go sledding and build a snowman.... then spring can come.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Yup Im so ready for spring...it's snowing today and below freezing I cant wait to plant my garden either!!
PrairieMom replied: its no that hard, just take it one seed at a time. I bet your kids would love to eat something they grew them selves. you can even do it in a barrel or container, so you don't have to dig up the yard.
I cant get my kids to touch peas from the store, fresh, frozen, canned, what ever, but the ones that we grow, they eat before they even get into the house.
mckayleesmom replied: Do you have any helpful sights that can tell me when I need to plan things in my state? Things that help with what weather works good to plant what?
PrairieMom replied: I don't know of any sites in particular, It would probably be easiest to think of something you would like to grow, like, strawberries. Then research that to see variteis that work well for your area. Different areas of the country are numbered, you can look up what area you are and find out what grows best there. Like, where I live, in South Dakota we are a #4. So when I buy seeds or plants I buy ones that are Hardy for zones 1-4 or 5. Plants or seeds are usually labeled some way that will tell you what kind of light to plant them in. If they need full sun plant them on the side of your house or a spot that gets sun all the time, part sun, plant in a spot that is sometimes sunny, but shady in the afternoon.
See? no sweat.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I want to plant a garden this year, just need to decided where and what. Guess I should start a little planning. I am thinking more fruits than veggies, I wonder what does best here in Ohio to grow....
DillsMommy replied: I'm clueless when it comes to gardening. I bought the book "gardening for dummies" when we moved into our house a year and a half ago--I have yet to read it.
I'll come help though if I can have some tomatoes. Mmmm, there's nothing better than a garden tomato.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I'm itching to get my hands dirty too!! I'm going to be a heck of a lot more limited this year, though, which I am NOT impressed with.
Jackie012007 replied: meeeeeeeeeeee. we got a foot and a half of snow overnight last night I can't even see my car... I wasn't even sure it was MY car, I thought it was Carl's Jeep when I loked out the window!!
I can't complain too hard (yet), so far we have had a fairly mild winter for NY!
BAC'sMom replied: What's spring?
Tara I could show you some pictures that I took yesterday of my fall garden but it would only make you mad.
happy planting!
CantWait replied: I remember you posting a thread like this just about the same time last year
It all sounds so yummy, there's nothing better tasting then vegetables straight out of the garden.
gr33n3y3z replied: No spring or summer yet we needs lots of cold weather and snow first
Danalana replied: The very idea od spring is depressing. The flowers are pretty and all, but try living in this sauna, and you would never wish spring to hurry again. If we got a real spring, that would be nice...but we don't. We literally have 2-3 days (MAYBE a week!) of spring-like weather (and by "spring-like", I mean that it's not scorching heat). Spring is just a very short gate-way to miserable heat for us. I've told Richard every year that I want to move! So I will come help, if I get to stay through the HOT. Well, I will need to come back around mid-july in order to prepare for childbirth
