Who wears the tool-belt in your house?
MamaJAM wrote: Today we have a list of home-repair things that need to get done. FIL is coming to help me (he's got more power tools than me). But - when stuff needs to be done around the house it's _me_ who does it (not DH). I'm just better with putting things together and figuring out other repair-type stuff (like fixing the broken toilet). DH is a geek - he's the one always dealing with the electronics (I stink with computers and DVD players)....he just isn't one for building beds and fixing broken doorknobs.
So....who wears the tool-belt in your home?
PrairieMom replied: I do the normal stull, fixing toilets, hanging pictures, little things here and there, but if anything major goes wrong we call a repairman. I don't have the time or patience to watch DH try to figure it out himself first!
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Aaron can't swing a hammer. It is MY toolbox and I like it that way.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Michael does most of the big stuff but the tools are OUR tools and I use the fun ones. I also child proofed the house and have built many many things for our houses.
5littleladies replied: We both do. It just depends on the job and if I want to bother with it or not.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Definitely DH! He was just installing a new light fixture in our bedroom yesterday and I was watching him work with all these wires...I was like "how do you know how to do that??" He just does...and same goes for just about everything else that's a "fix-it" project around our house. Now when it comes to gardening...DH and I are both clueless. And general cleaning and maintenance is ALLLLLLLLLLL me!
luvbug00 replied: BRAD!! He's a wiz and I'm the dunce when it comes to fixing ANYTHING! LOL!
luvmykids replied: My dad does most of the fixing, despite the fact I am married to a contractor. DH is either not around when stuff needs to be done right away or doesn't get around to it and my dad can't stand it anymore and does it himself.
Kaitlin'smom replied: other, really depends on the job, simple things I do, more difficult DH does, things we dont know grandpa or now BIL helps with, major things repair man.
Cece00 replied: DH does. I am not great with fixing stuff plus I generally think that type of stuff is for men. My boys dad was totally unhandy & I hated it. What I couldnt handle, I had to get my dad to do. My DH fixes stuff, works on cars, does all the manly stuff. I think it makes him super sexy to boot
C&K*s Mommie replied: I wear it. My FIL just bought me another toolbox a few weeks ago, and everytime they will come down he will buy more things to load into it.
I have a good collection of tools (many are repeats). But he needed a wrench, and I did not have it. So he went and bought a trio of them, and some other things that night for me.
MamaJAM replied: My FIL is a tool-guy too...he LOVES helping me fill my toolbox. Every time I need to borrow one of his tools - he heads out and buys me a really nice version of what I had borrowed. Recently he helped DH pick out a large drill-bit case...and he gave me one of his drills (he has several). He and I have such a good time at Home Depot together.....yesterday we spent 45+ mins there and all we needed were a few screws.
3xsthefun replied: Rob does. I'm not that great at fixing stuff. I do try to help him though when he needs help.
ashtonsmama replied: I'd say mostly Ryan, but when he gets busy at work and I'm not PG, I do help out more with that type of thing...when I can!
MyLuvBugs replied: Ya know...we both wear it but I look better in it. lol just kidding! Actually we're both really handy, but if I want something done in a timely manner, I just do it myself.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I do little to medium things, DH does some of the medium things. Big things FIL and DH do together (FIL calls them learning experiences ) And if we need furniture assembled we call MIL - that woman can put together a dresser or entertainment center in 10 min flat without once using the directions!
redchief replied: I do.
holley79 replied: Shawn and I both take care of things around the house. When it comes to plumbing though, that's my dad all the way.
Brias3 replied: I voted both just because I really am not left with much choice when he's not home. We can't very well go without a working toilet or a fresh lightbulb for however long he'll be gone if something occurs for but anything major, I'll save for him. Still, I've always been kind of a do-it-yourself person and so will usually at least TRY to figure it out first.

I couldn't have said it any better.
coasterqueen replied: Well I grew up with a carpenter as a father so I can do quite a few things myself. Dh built houses for a living at one time so he can do a lot too. It was nice that we both knew so much because it came in handy when we did the majority of our own house. I even had to teach Dh how to sweat pipes. Course he taught me a lot too.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I can do little things around the house, but Bart is the carpenter. He built houses for a living before he got his current job. He redid our whole house himself!! The only thing he didn't do was the electric, but my dad is an electrician so we got that done for free (saved a lot of money) and Bart's dad was a plumber so Bart knew how to do all the plumbing. So he is awesome when it comes to carpentry.
