Who else's washing machine "walks?"
My2Beauties wrote: I'm just asking because my washing machine is in my kitchen next to my stove, and if that darned thing wasn't next to my stove I swear it would make it's way all the way to our livingroom I'm cooking potato soup tonight and trying to wash clothes as well so needless to say when the washing machine does it's "thing" I have to make sure my soup doesn't go flying!
mckayleesmom replied: Mine does too....lol...and sometimes it pulls the water hose out and water goes on the floor...thank goodness for suck pumps.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Our rocks a little in the spin cycle I think, depending on what I have in there that will take it off balance.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Nope, sorry!
luvmykids replied: Only if the load is too big or off balance.
redchief replied: Washing machines that "walk" need to be levelled. For a nominal fee and round trip air fare I can take care of that for you.
coasterqueen replied: Same here, only if load is off balance or i put too much in.
holley79 replied: My washing machine that I use to have in my "single" days (it was really old and cheap) use to walk.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Ours is in a basement utility room. And the floor slants to a floor drain. So when we first moved in, the washing machine would move down the slope. I solved that problem by putting old phone books under it to level it off.
Kittilicious replied: I love to hear others who share their kitchen with their laundry room! Mine is split though... my washer is in my garage entry way and my dryer is next to my stove. (only about a 10 foot walk) I figure if I don't have the counter space, the dryer is perfect because it doubles as a countertop!!!
I'm horrible at off-balancing my washer loads, so it likes to walk. Someday I'll learn how to do laundry right and by then I'll have a front loader washer.
MamaJAM replied: Our washing machine is in the basement and some idiot put the water-line hook-up for it on the slope leading to the drain in the floor. I'm constantly having to shove it back up-hill and toward the wall. We've looked into moving it - but cost is a factor....I've lived with it for 10+ years -- it's just another 'fact of life' for us.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Mine rocks like crazy even when the load isn't uneven - it's worse when it is. It's really old - I want a new one so bad!
coasterqueen replied: Ours isn't that old, it's about 6 or 7 years old, but we bought a fairly cheap set and we really despise the set. We were just out "dream" shopping for a new set this weekend. We think by the time we are 60 and don't really need one as much is about the time we'll be able to afford a new one.
My2Beauties replied: I want a new set myself. Ours is only about 3 years old but they are very very cheap. Whatever was on sale at Sears. I want the nice colored frontloader ones they sell at Sear's! Oh and I will never ever have another house that has the washer and dryer in the same room as the kitchen - I hate it, unless it's in a closet off on the other side of the room or something. It sucks. So that is one of my criteria when we buy a house this summer!
Kaitlin'smom replied: considering I just get a new one a few months back it sits still, only shakes a bit if the load gets uneven.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Same here!
Can your DH bolt it to the wall?
My2Beauties replied: No because there are pipes and stuff behind it that run up the wall and we've got something under there to level it too, as our floors aren't the most even in that old house of ours, but it still shakes! I don't care if I have one darn thing in there I know it's our house and the floors they are really uneven!
moped replied: No it doesn't move at all - it is pretty much brand new Maytag Neptune set........sweet!
ashtonsmama replied: If it's full or is off balance it starts to make scary sounds and move around more, but normally it's pretty solid, just a little wobbling.
ilovemybaby replied: Ours vibrates when it's at the spin cycle but it doesn't move from the spot. It's over 7 years old now. We've only ever had one problem with it ... and it was Pauls fault! He left a safety pin in his pants and I put them in the wash not knowing they had a safety pin in them and it came off and blocked the pipe That cost us over $70. We had no idea why the washing machine just stopped working so we called someone to come and fix it. Now we know how to unblock it ourselves. *TOUCH WOOD* now just incase it's about ready to pack up.
redchief replied: How about using 2"x4"'s as levelling joists and making a small, level platform beneath it? The material should be pretty inexpensive and you should be able to build it in the current location in a few hours? Just a suggestion.
