Which to start first???

MommyToAshley replied: Some people say to start veggies first because once they get a taste of the fruit then they won't like the veggies. But, I alternated weeks between introducing a new veggie and a new fruit. When I introduced a fruit, I added it to her rice or oatmeal cereal. (So one week she would get a new veggie and the next week she would get a new fruit) Now, she is 22 months old and eats everything. She LOVES both fruit and veggies (broccoli is her favorite).
If you start with a veggie, I would recommend something easy on the tummy like carrots or squash. And, pears is a nice fruit to start out with, I think. Watch giving too many bananas or apples because that can constipate them -- we found that out the hard way.
Good Luck... those first taste of food faces are too darn cute.
momof2girls replied: I stareted with veggies first and went thru all of them and then started fruits, my pedi said best to do this way incase they like sweet, once they have fruit they might be picky about veggies
MomToJade&Jordan replied: I started with veggies as well because I had heard the same thing. The sweet potatos and the squash were Jade's fav. After that I started with the fruit. I also would alternate bites when I fed her. I would give her the one she liked better first and then switch to the other food next.
ctymom replied: Yeah.... I was told that too but I've always started with fruits. I think giving them fruits gets them into liking the food. I've never had trouble introducing veggies after... the only veggie that Erica hates is Peas (we have about 10 jars of the stuff now lol) and she doesnt always care for Green beans. But she LOVES sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, etc.
So, basically... I prefer fruits first. They mix nice with their cereals too.

TeagansMom609 replied: Thanks everyone! I tried giving her bananas today. What a face! A big "ewww...Mommy what is this" face. She didnt like it too much. Maybe I will try a veggie next time.
ediep replied: yup, I did the same...Jason's ped said to atart with the orange veggies first then green because the green is a little harder to digest. We started with carrots, then squash, then sweet potatoes the fruits we started with was pears, apples, bannanas
A&A'smommy replied: Depends on the baby I started Alyssa on her fruits first (before they told me that you should start them on veggies first) she did really well with her veggies anyway.
Mistydiane replied: I started veggies first with my 3
amynicole21 replied: Oops, double post
amynicole21 replied: I started veggies first, too, but I really don't think it made much of a difference. Sophia hates all veggies equally now
And like MommyToAshley said, watch those bananas, they really did a number on Sophia's tummy. I had to stop giving them to her until she was about 10 months old
DixieDarlin replied: I started with fruits with both of mine. To me, it just seems as though it would be easier on the tummy. But take into consideration that I started my boys on baby food a lot earlier than dr's reccomend. I have never been a "go by the book" mom. But my youngest loved all and any baby food. There was nothing that he turned his nose up at. Peas, carrots, squash, green beans, he loved it all. Now that he's almost 6, it's a different story lol. He loves almost all fruits but the only veggies he will eat is corn and potatos. My oldest on the other hand, loves almost all veggies AND fruit. He even loves salads!
