Which 5yos are still too light for booster?

amynicole21 wrote: I know we have some featherweight 5yos here. Sophia just hit 38lbs and is reaching the max for the height limit on her carseat (I have to measure her... she might already be too tall!) I don't think she's going to be hitting the 40lb mark for at least another 6mos.

I hate to spend the money on ANOTHER convertible carseat when boosters are so much cheaper. But it looks like I will probably have to. rolleyes.gif

Also, I can't remember the website that gives all of the CPS recommendations for safety in carseats... it's not coming up when I search. Anyone remember?

ETA - found the website I was looking for - http://car-seat.org/

danahas4monkeys replied: Alexis turned 5 in May and even before being really sick last week and losing a pound she only weighs 34lbs. Thanks for the website I'll take a look. Its nice to know I am not the only one with a tiny girl! wavey.gif

coasterqueen replied: Obviously you know Kylie isn't too light, but Megan will most likely be at the rate she's going. Right now Kylie is in the Britax Regency (I think that's it or it's Regent). So she can technically be in that until age of 8 - it has a 5 point harness.

I hope to give that seat to Megan to use and I'm sure she'll be in it until she's old enough to drive. rolleyes.gif

jcc64 replied: Corey's still in her Britax Roundabout. She's 37 lbs, but also not very tall, so she still has a ways to go in that one. I have an old Britax Star Riser booster that I used with my son many moons ago, and though she can use that, it's clear (even to her) that she's not nearly as secure in that.

DansMom replied: Daniel's only 33 pounds---he'll be five in November. Yep, we're in the convertible for some time now. We have the Britax Marathon, which I think goes up to 60 or 80 pounds? I need to check.

lovemy2 replied: Olivia was only about 32 lbs when we bought her a booster seat - BUT - I bought one with a 5 point harness - she just at like 35 lbs went into one in my Mom's car that uses the seat belt - its one of the Graco Trubo Boosters - I am not sure she will ever really need anything but the 5 point harness one we have - she is still pretty little in that one - in fact I am betting she goes to college in it laugh.gif The only reason she uses the Turbo Booster with the seat belt in my Mom's car is because I have a hefty nephew who also uses it - didn't want my Mom to have to have TWO boosters and she really is fine in it...

A&A'smommy replied: Wow Alyssa is 35lbs and she isn't quite 4 yet. tongue.gif

He is very slim though, but very tall, he is wearing size 5 in jeans (with a belt) unsure.gif

Madison is 2 yrs 5 months and 36.5 lb. blush.gif

Guess we've got some big babies to balance out the small ones!

moped replied: Well I wish!! Jack is 3 and 38 pounds and 42 inches - I am not sure if I should get him a booster in time or just leave him in the convertible or buy anther for when his sister is big enough

maestra replied: Jaci is 53 lbs, and in a booster. Did we put her in too early? She has a convertible seat, and got too big for the 5pt harness. Then we moved to the earliest notch on the booster part with the seat belt, and it hits her just right. We have the booster hooked in using the latch. Now I'm all worried. sad.gif

amynicole21 replied:
Nope - the rule is 4yo and 40lbs. She's just fine thumb.gif Sophia is not yet 40lbs, so we can't move her yet rolleyes.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: are you sure the law is 4 and 40 for booster...i think it is a guideline and not law in most places.

Dh searched the actual car seat laws for both states we have been in and been shocked with how vague they are. At least in CA the best we have been able to come up with is "proper fitting seat" until age 6 or some inches I believe....

Any way. the booster seats we bought says 30 pounds as the lower weight requirement. it's the evenflo big kid (deluxe...i think that is just the lights on the headrest that have only had batteries for about 3 seconds since they are ANNOYING)

eta Katy is 40 pounds occasionally...depending on her mood I think. her weight will vary from 39 to 41 and back again with no rhyme or reason.

momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I am sure I will have the same problems. Alyx is almost 18 months and at her last appt (Aug) she wasn't even 20 lbs. She weighed 19 lbs 4 oz.

amynicole21 replied: I think you are right, it's a guideline, but experts say the ABSOLUTE bare minimum is 4years and 40lbs, but it's much safer to wait even longer. If you've got them in a harness rather than a seatbelt model, it's much safer. There is much less protection in a seatbelt model.

jcc64 replied: For sure, Amy- even a 5yr old can tell the difference. Corey knows she's safer in the convertible, but she so wants to be like the other kids. I feel badly for her, but it's not my job to be her friend.......

ediep replied: Amy, you saw how small Jason was last year.... he is still not 40 pounds,, although I think he may be 40 inches.....or maybe not quite

WE bought a booster for DH's car because we figure it will only be a few months until he hist 40 and he is usually in my car anyway.

DansMom replied: I just want to make a correction---I weighed Daniel last night, because he felt heavy, and he's 34 pounds now! Woo hoo!

A&A'smommy replied:
Cyndi, Alyssa was like that she was SMALL until she hit 2.5 years old and then she started growing like crazy but in the last 6months she has gained 5lbs and I don't have a clue how tall she is but she is SUPER tall too wink.gif
