When to take them out of the crib

lisar wrote: When does everyone think it would be a good time to transfer Raygen into her bed. Her crib goes into a toddler bed but I wasnt sure when I should do it. I was thinking on her 2nd birthday in June. But wanted everyones advice. I never really went thru this with Lexi cause she slept with me untill DH came along. Thanks for any advice.

Our Lil' Family replied: Thomas will be 2 this month and we just converted his bed to a toddler bed about 3 weeks ago. He has done fairly well, except of course when he doesn't think he needs to go to sleep!

moped replied: Well I say wait - why not! That is her security and she probably likes it....unless you think she is going to fall out and crack her head why not leave her for a bit........but that is the sleep nazi talking...........

I just moved Jack about 2 months ago. He will be 3 in June. And he occassionally asks for his crib back!

ediep replied: i'd leave her in there unless she is climbing out or she is too big for it

jason was 3 when we got him his big boy bed

MommyToAshley replied: I think it depends on the child. If she doesn't try to climb out of her bed and there aren't safety issues, then I would keep her in it.

Ashley wasn't a climber and never tried to climb out of her bed. I kept her in her crib as long as possible and I converted it to a toddler bed just before her third birthday. I knew if I had done it before that then she would keep getting out of bed instead of sleeping. It worked or us. But, I had a friend that her daughter started climbing out at 12 months and she had to go to a toddler bed around the first birthday.

ZandersMama replied: Zan was 15 months old and was climbing. He has done great.

coasterqueen replied: I say leave her in there til she makes you think she's going to climb out. Megan will be 2 w/in days and I'm leaving her in there as long as I can. happy.gif Kylie never liked the crib, so this is all new to me too. Megan doesn't even attempt to get out of bed as long as I come get her in a decent time. She does, however, start out sleeping with her sissy in her bed and then Megan hollers at me to tell me she's ready to go to her bed. laugh.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: We moved Tanner to a regular twin bed before he turned 2. He never had a toddler bed, I didn't want to waste the money. We really didn't have a choice with him, he was just way too big for his crib. He did great too. Fell out a couple times, but we kept pillows by his bed to soften the falls. He was actually very excited about having a big boy bed! He never attempted to climb out either, so if we would have waited until he tried, he'd still be in his crib today laugh.gif . smile.gif

gr33n3y3z replied:
thats what we did also if I'm not mistaken

sunrosejenn replied: Eliana started sleeping in her toddler bed at 18 months she is now 28 months

lisar replied: Thanks everyone, we have the side of her crib zip tied up because she has learnt that is she shakes it hard enough the side comes down and she can climb out. I also have that side of the bed up against the wall now also. I just know its a matter of time before she figures out how to climb out of it. She is a climber.

My3LilMonkeys replied: We switched Brooke around 16 months because we planned to use her crib for Madison and she did great.

We switched Madison around 20 months because she learned to climb out of the crib and she was a little tougher to tame but it was better than the climbing.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: thumb.gif I waited until they turned 2. Both Emily and Spencer right into a regular bed. But Claudia was so small that we bought a toddler bed for her!
