When do/did you move baby to toddler bed? - Looking ahead
coasterqueen wrote: Kylie absolutely hates her crib. She never sleeps very long in it. So I was wondering how long before I can put her into a toddler bed. Her crib actually can be made into a toddler bed, and I thought maybe if I put the safety rails up she would be safe. Anyone have any advice on this or opinions? I am at a loss as to what to do with this child who wakes up every 1/2 hour or so, but will sleep great with me.
chloe&tysmommy replied: Hi
I just read in my book " What to expect the first year" - if the child is 36 in. tall or can climb out of the crib on his own, then s/he is ready for a bed.
Thats just what I read though... I'm sure some BTDT mommys will have some experience with this..
Good Luck, Crystal
MommyToAshley replied: Glad you asked, I was wondering the same thing. However, Ashley likes her crib and sleeps in it well. I just didn't want to wait until she fell climbing out of it to move her to the toddler bed.
We have one of those cribs that turns into a toddler bed and then a full size bed too.
~CrazieMama~ replied: Well, I have taken Brianna out of the crib when she was around 10 months old or so. She hated it. Although I co-sleep with her. I do have a toddler bed that she loves to play in, but bed time is hard. Naps are ok. She will be 18 months on the 31st. She is approx. 33 in. tall. All babies are different. My son Tyler came out of the crib around 18 months old. HTH
MomofTay&Sam replied: My oldest son left his baby bed at 19 months. He had surgery and than began co-sleeping with us until he was eight. ROFL I am a nut! Sammy uses his $500 crib to play in, no naps no nothing! It does all the toddler bed stuff to but I just don't see it happening. He will be in my bed for another 8 years atleast. I need therapy huh?
paradisemommy replied: i'm with sammy's mom...i think he'll still be in our bed until he graduates..
MomToMany replied: We're tempted to get Hannah a toddler bed. She doesn't like sleeping in her crib, but she loves Ethan's toddler bed. Ethan went in one when he was about 2 or 2 1/2, when we got the crib ready for Hannah.
But, we will wait until she's bigger, and when it's closer for the newest arrival to come.
booey2 replied: Hi, we moved Thomas at 14 months to a mattress on the floor because we had to return the crib that we had borrowed (they promised it to someone else before we got it in the thought that this couple would never concieve or if they did it would be after we were done with it). Any way he loved it and just this weekend we put the frame together so now he is in a big boy bed with the bed rail and loves it.

amynicole21 replied: I think you can probably do it as soon as you don't mind them getting up in the middle of the night and getting into stuff... what's that, like 18?? It would freak me out right now if Sophia could decide when she wanted run of the house, whether we were aware of it or not. I guess we will wait until she's 2 or so. Right now, she still co-sleeps so it isn't an issue for us just yet. I doubt she'd even go to a toddler bed any time soon.
booey2 replied: We were afraid of this too when we moved Thomas but at that time we didn't have a choice unless we wanted to buy another crib so we put one of our baby gates in his doorway and it worked fine.

I guess I'm horrible - lol
I've already put a mattress on the floor in Zach's new room for him to sleep on. He hasn't yet...but it was in our living room for about 1 week while we were re-organizing the basement so that we could move the office into the basement and put Zach in to the office (bigger of the 2 other bedrooms) sometime before this new baby is born.... lol
So....he's been taking his naps on the mattress for about 1 week now. He falls off occasionally...but it's carpet, so he doesn't even wake up. He still sleeps half in his crib, half with us...
I was planning on having him in his own room (with basically just the mattress, his dressers, and his toys) by the end of September! I guess I'm too early?! lol
coasterqueen replied: No I don't think you are horrible. Putting the mattress on the floor instead of the toddler bed is a good idea. Have to talk with Dh tonight and see if that is a better arrangment. Thanks!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Phew! I was ready to ban him from his own room!
victoire2002 replied: We moved DS to a mattress on the floor when he was 9 months old. We have pretty much weaned him from co-sleeping. We still have to go into his room (usually around 4am) and calm him down sometimes, though. He has slept through many nights, though. We had no choice in the matter, because our bed is so high off the ground and he refused to go anywhere near his crib. He would howl if we put him in there, even for 5 minutes!
Aidan loves his bed, and we usually don't have problems getting him to lay down in it. It's just uncomfortable for mommy and daddy's backs because there is no box spring, only a mattress. Pretty tough sleeping on it!
