When did you switch to milk

moped wrote: Laila will be one year on Dec 17.....I still have about 1.5 cans of formula left, then it should be safe to switch her to milk? I truly don't remember, I think with Jack I ran out when he was about 12 months and gave him milk..... tongue.gif

Anyways, when did you switch from formula to milk?

CantWait replied: Robbie was 10 months old.

Anthony was still bf for awhile after that, but he was given milk probably around 11 months, and certainly milk products before then.

msoulz replied: I started weaning Erin right around the 1 year mark. She seemed to have trouble with whole milk though (diarrhea) despite eating whole milk yogurt, lots of cheese, and other dairy so she ended up on soy. And she is still drinking soy as I figure it is better for her, or at least there are no hormones and all that stuff.

ETA You still might need more formula to sort of wean her from the formula to milk. But then maybe some kids just switch and are OK. I still wonder if I just gave her too much milk at one time and she was a bit lactose intolerant or just needed to adjust more slowly.

mckayleesmom replied: I gave Mckaylee both around 9 months.....She would have it in a sippy cup and then formula the rest of the time. Russell wasn't till he was about 13 or 14 months because he HATED it and it made him constipated or give him diarreah. I had to slowly wean him off formula with lactaid. He has no milk allergies now, but for some reason it took his body a while to adjust to regular milk.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke was just over a year, Madison was about 10 months. We just did a complete switch from one to the other and they both loved milk.

Danalana replied: We were told to switch at 1 year...do whole milk (not 2%) until 2 years old, then switch to 2%.

BabyOwen427 replied: I think you can start as early as 10 months. Mixing one ounce of milk to 7 ounces of formula, then increasing the milk by one ounce every week as she gets used to it. I'm not really sure cause Owen wasn't a formula baby. My niece was on whole milk at 9 months and she seemed to do just fine. I think if you take it slow and let her adjust to the change she'll be okay. Good luck.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: Alex was 10mons old and I didnt mix whole milk with formula I just switched him cold turkey. He is 4 and still drinks whole milk we never did 2%

BAC'sMom replied: We switched at 1 year.

boyohboyohboy replied: we are still in the middle of the switch at 14 months. we started at 12 months and use formula and mix the whole milk..
he takes whole milk straight if its warm..but hates cold milk.

we use formula at nght right now because i have 8 cans left.

Calimama replied: I did it right at a year.

MoonMama replied: 1 year.

moped replied: Great, I won't need any more formula after this then - will switch after her one year appt............

Brias3 replied: We transitioned to milk right around a year- same time we transitioned off the bottle to a sippy. Aliyah was a bit later though- maybe 15 months or so- she had bad reflux.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Both boys were about half and half around 10 months/11 months. By a year they were totally on milk. I used the year mark as sort of a 'guide', but when the doctor said "at a year they can be solely on milk" I never strictly thought it needed to be "on their birthday", if you know what I mean. If it's a few weeks before or whatever, I don't think that's really a big deal. I'd use up however many cans I had left then go to milk. Her b-day is right around the corner. smile.gif
