When are your starting meats?

MommyToAshley wrote: My Ped recommended 8 months. But, with Ashley's poopy problems, I am thinking of waiting a little bit longer. Just wondering, when are you starting?

5littleladies replied: Brianna has already tried meat once in mixed baby food (it was chicken I think), but she gagged and spit it out so we will definitely wait another couple of months. I think we started both of our other girls around 8-9 months with no problems.

chloe&tysmommy replied: Hi, wavey.gif

I give Chloe (7.5 mths) chicken casserole and veggies with beef and she had no problems with that (my ped told me to start introducing meats).

I always thought you had to wait until they were at least 9 mths old but I guess it all depends on the child. HTH sad.gif

maliksmommy replied: Okay well I feel bad now. Malik is 7.5 months old and has been eating meats for about a month or 2 now. He eats everything from chicken, turkey and beef mixes. He had a pooping problem once and we just fed him bannana and applesauce until it cleared up but besides that he's been fine. I hope I haven't messed anything up, maybe that explains his chunkiness tongue.gif

MommyToAshley replied: If he is doing fine with them then there shouldn't be a problem. Like someone said, I think it depends on the child. Ashley is having poopy problems with just fruits and veggies, so I think I might wait.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

5littleladies replied:
Don't feel bad-if he's not having any problems then don't worry about it. Bee would be eating meat if she didn't hate it. tongue.gif Each child is different-you do what you think is best. biggrin.gif

ediep replied: Jason has started stage 2 simple recipe meats. They have 2 ingredients like apples and chicken or sweet potatoes and turkey. He has not had the beef or the ham yet. They are pretty smooth, so he can manage it well, but he isn't thrilled with the taste that much. He'll usually eat about 1/2 of a jar and then he's done

CantWait replied: ack, not really related to the question.....but it's sort of a funny story.

When I started Robbie on plain meats not mixed with anything, I couldn't handle it. Has anyone ever opened a jar of plain baby chicken...smells like cat food puke.gif , after a while I had to start feeding him meat and vegetables mixed together. LOL

MommyToAshley replied: It's related...because I am going to make sure I mix 'em to start with. Thanks for the tip!

ediep replied: Gerber makes the meats mixed with one ingredient. They come in a stage 2 jar with a red label. You have to read the label carefully, because they also make meats with more than 2 ingredients. Just look for "simple recipe" with the reddish label

girlzmommy00 replied: We have a semi vegetarian household and don't give the girls meats until they are about 5 years old or older if they aren't interested. Alyssa is 9 and chooses to eat meat occationally but Lauren is 3 and has never eaten meat. Lily just likes squash and green beans now.

momofajcl replied:
Ditto this for Nicholas! LOL! His favorite out off all the mixed stuff is the apples and chicken but he will still only eat about 1/2 jar at a time.
