When and how many inches was the biggest - snow you've ever seen

My2Beauties wrote: It was 1994 here in Louisville, we got like 16 inches of snow one year, I was 13 years old when it happened, turned 14 later on that year. The whole city pretty much shut down for an entire week. It was awesome.

Calimama replied: 1 inch... 2005.. IL. cool.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: March of 2003 here in Colorado. Biggest blizzard we have ever had. Here is a little quote I found when I googled it (since I didn't know how much we actually got):

"When the storm cleared, snow depths ranged from 1.5 to 3 feet along the Front Range urban corridor and from 4 to 6 feet in the foothills. Water content ranged from 4 to more than 8 inches, enough to replenish dangerously low reservoirs. “It was the beginning of the end for the drought on the east side of the Continental Divide,” Schlatter says."

ETA: I remember DH was out of town when this blizzard hit so I was scared. I remember our large tree in the front yard fell and seriously covered our whole walkway/sidewalk. The neighbors stopped by to see if I was okay. I do remember having several days off of work though, that was the good thing, plus we got to snowshoe in the street (which was cool since we lived in the city).

mom21kid2dogs replied: Sadly, not only was I alive for the blizzard of "78, I was a freshman in college . . .in Kentucky. It was hideous. 24" of snow that subsequently blew all over the place. The county I lived in didn't have school for 5 weeks. By far the worst I've ever seen. Other than that one, Southern Ohio got 19 or 20" one year in April in the mid 80's~like '85 or '86. We were out of power for for 4-5 days. Of course it melted nearly immediately and resulted in massive flooding! I love Ohio! tongue.gif

lovemy2 replied: I gotta tell you I can't stop laughing to answer the real question cause all I read was

hay dont say that I was alive for that as well, granted I dont really remember it to well but I was around my parent had just gotten a 4 wheel jeep and she drove docs that lived on our street back and fouth to the hospital, she said it was a blast driving in it.

soemthing I can remember was probably in I think 95 we had I am guessing 12 or so inches and leval 3 emergency and was not allowed on the road, DH' boss lived in cincy and said its fine here get to work or your fired, he tried and ended in a ditch, I told him it was NOT worth risking his live or jail for a job. He did not go to work and sent his boss the tow bill.

coasterqueen replied: I don't remember the year, but I was a little girl and we drove out to my grandpa's house (which is now my parents house) and the snow was so high on the sides of the road you couldn't see anything for miles. I'd say it was at least a foot if not higher of snow. It was way above the vehicle roof.

Anthony275 replied: in buffalo in 2004 there was over 12 feet of snow

kit_kats_mom replied: I don't know the exact number of inches because I was only 8 but I was in the Blizzard of '79 in IL. I remember drifts as big as our house.

Uh oh.. is there some place it should be biggrin.gif

luvmykids replied: Last year, here. I think the most we got at one time was 13 inches but we had two more storms on top of it and had about 17 inches by the time it was all said and done, within a week.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Blizzard of 93 here - over 3 feet of snow, I think it was like 42 inches in 48 hours.

Kentuckychick replied: '98 here in Lex Ky, I was a freshman in highschool and we had around 10-12 inches (depending on where ya measured). I distinctly remember walking out of a basketball game at school with a bunch of other people and we were all wondering if we'd get that "once a year snow day" or maybe just an hour delay would be nice. I woke up the next morning around 9 am and looked out the window to a huge surprise. It shut down school for a week and a day, and we had SO much fun. I SOOO want that to happen again bawling.gif

Then there was the ice storm of '02 and THAT was misery. 2-3 inches of solid ice. The trees are still not the same and I remember while most schools and colleges were out for a week, UK thought it would be nice to have everyone go back two days later when ice in was still hanging from the trees and limbs were still falling... one student even got injured by falling debris. And there was that whole no power for over a week thing. It was the opposite of fun.

I'll take the snow ANYDAY! tongue.gif

OMG I totally missed this until now! emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif I thought now there is a topic that will grab your attention! rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif

The most snow I remember clearly was in Virginia when I was a kid (maybe 85 or 86) It snowed 13 inches. We didn't have school for about a week because it was that wet heavy snow that covers everything and it snowed and iced everynight. It was so fun!

redchief replied: Blizzard of '78 we had 54" here.
Blizzard of '79 we had 49" here. Those were good shoveling years. emlaugh.gif

redchief replied:
We don't get a lot of snow here usually, but when the ocean temperature is at about 34', there is cold air in place and a secondary low pressure system develops from a mainland low off the coast of North Carolina we get monstrous snowfalls.

You've probably heard of midatlantic nor'easters? Well snowy nor'easters are mean motor-scooters.

punkeemunkee'smom replied:

emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif I have not heard that terminology in a long time! My Grandpa used to say that! rolling_smile.gif Good ol Jersey slang laugh.gif
