What's the cost of a zoo - membership in your town?
mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: We have a really great zoo here in Colorado Springs, so I'm considering joining as a member this summer! It typically costs $12 per adult to get in (which is a lot IMO), but it's only $69 for an annual family membership (which includes everyone in the family, plus other perks like invites to events, discounts at their gift shop and guest passes)...so I think that's worth it.
Just curious how much it is in your town.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: The Dallas Zoo is $69 for a family...it's not the best zoo around
The Fort Worth Zoo would be $105 for our family, but it is a GREAT zoo.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I was curious about our local one, and here is the breakdown: ZOO Friends Memberships:
The ZOO Friends Membership is a one-year membership with several different levels.
Level & Price
Individual $40 Family $75 Naturalist $150 Keeper $200 Curator $250 Director $500
5littleladies replied: We pay about $90 for a household plus membership. That includes everyone in our family, one guest every time we go, gift shop discounts, etc. My brother pays for the upgrade for us (household membrship w/o the guest is $70). It's totally worth it for us since to get in regularly would cost us almost $50 and we go about once a month or every other month.
PrairieMom replied: ours was $65.00 for a family pass. we also get a 10% discount in the gift shop
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: obviously ours is the same price but FYI you can get like $5 or something off if you have an entertainment book (or you happen to know someone like me that has access to about 10 of the coupons for you because of my family)
booey2 replied: Up here in Toronto, it is $115 for a family of 6, 2 adults and up to 4 children under the age of 12. The normal entrance fee is $19.99 per 13-64 years, child 4-12 $11, 3 and under free, seniors $13.00, plus parking is $8.00 but if you buy the pass it is only $40 for the parking pass.
lesliesmom replied: Since we're close to both we've been looking into two zoos.
Detroit Zoo has different levels as well but for $74 for 1 year or $133 for 2 years you get 2 adults plus children. Membership benefits include free admission to Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Zoo; Free Parking; Discounts to zoos and aquariums nationwide; discounts on merchandise, classes, etc.
The other one we're looking into is the Toledo Zoo, which is a little farther away but a better zoo... for that it's $60 for a family plus pretty much the same benefits as the Detroit Zoo.
mom21kid2dogs replied: The closest one to us is Columbus OH. The level of membership is based on both family size and other "special" features (such as a membership that includes one extra person, one that includes grandparents, etc). They range in price from $45 to $125. Members recieve 10% off, zoo magazine subscription, special members only activities and 50% off admission fees at other recipricol zoos.
MamaJAM replied: The local zoo is $7.25 for adult - $5.25 for ages 2-12 - free under 2. The family membership (including all kids in the household) is $65...that also includes a discount at the gift shop and invites to special events. We've gotten memberships there for the last few years -- but won't be doing it this year...they've been changing things and we're not really happy with the changes. I don't even know if I'll take the kids once this year (we only went twice all of last year and were not inpressed).
Though we will be renewing our membership to the Philadelphia Zoo -- its a little over an hour drive - but it's worth it. For $99-109 (depending on renewal-discounts) you get membership for the whole family -- free parking -- and can bring 2 guest every time you visit. There are also other benefits...invites to events, etc. The Philly Zoo is so much nicer than the one here -- they have more animals and so much more to do. Also....for our family alone -- the family membership (with guests) is cheaper than going there even once! It's too great to pass up. Adults are $16.95...kids are $13.95 -- for DH, me and the kids it would be $103.65 (add 2 adult guests and the $10 parking....and we really pay for the whole thing in one trip).
kit_kats_mom replied: Our zoo is $70/year for the family which includes a guest pass and 10% off food and purchases in the park
Busch Gardens is $69 per person (over two years old) for a year so $207 this year for us. Also includes 10% off everything in the park. We actually upgraded one of the memberships so that we get free parking but since weve been 10 times this year already, it's about $25 a trip for the whole family.
jem0622 replied: $26 for a year (mom and pop place up the road).
The zoo further up is about $20/person/season!!!! No thank you!
redchief replied: There's no zoo in our town, but there's one about eight miles away. There's no charge for admission. It's a county subsidized zoo. They ask for whatever you can afford to give in donations.
Cece00 replied: About $60 per year for a family.
huggybugboy replied: Our zoo is free (or for donation) but it kinda sucks. I think theres some monkeys and a bear. oh and flamingos.
3_call_me_mama replied: We don't ahve a zoo here in our town. or even in our state. The closest one is an hour away in Canada (Granby Zoo or a ride through safari/zoo Parc Safari. But your's sounds reasonable. i'd buy a membership
AlexsPajamaMama replied: No zoo here either. We do have a Maine Wildlife Park that is kind of like a zoo I guess. I have never even been to a zoo ever in my life!
gr33n3y3z replied: Ours is free But the Zoo is nothing like Philadelphia Zoo
MyLuvBugs replied: I had no idea, so I had to go and look it up.
looks like a Family membership (2 adults and kids under 18 at one address) is $60 per year, and then they have multi pass things that cost extra on top of your membership fee. Nice huh? But a day pass is $6.00 per addult, $5 for seniors and kids aged 2-11 years.
