Whats the big deal? - (Dora and Diego)

Liz_Kaitlyns_Mama wrote: Why do kids LOVE Dora so much??? And most love Diego the same too! What is it?? Does anyone have a clue? My brother is four (which I think is a lil out of the Dora/Diego age range) and he loves both shows. My niece loves Dora. And all of my friends kids do, too. Its a cute and educational show but why do kids love it so? huh.gif

MyLuvBugs replied: I don't know. I personally find the shows REALLY annoying and not entertaining at all.

TheOaf66 replied: i dunno, it astounds me too, but when my wife puts it on for the kids (daycare) they are all focused and they answer the TV when they ask questions etc...I have to say it is a lot better than some of the other ones out there but no, I don't know what the big attraction is.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: My two year old LOVES them both! They are cute shows and he learns soooooo much from them and has developed quite the imagination. smile.gif

3xsthefun replied: I don't know either. But Maegan loves both of them.

ZandersMama replied: whenever we walk by anything dora in the mall my 20 month old boy says "ohla Dora" He is obsessed with her. LIkes Diago but more Dora.

mckayleesmom replied: I don't know either....I think they are both obnoxious, but my kids love them and thats all that really matters right?

Jamison'smama replied: Jamison loved Dora at 2 and when I put a Dora or Diego show on now she talks to the TV like no other show--I'm not sure why they like them but I don't mind them either--at least there is more of a plot. I still love Little Bear the most though wub.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
Mckaylee LOVES Little Bear.....she has actually died down on the Dora and Diego stuff.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I think the appeal is, is that Dora (like Blues Clues) talks to the audience. The child may feel interactive with the show. How many times has your child yelled "maaapppp!" when Dora asked "who do we ask when we do not know which way to go?" or other questions that she asks. Blues Clues is the same, they wait for responses from the kids watching, and I think the kids feel like they are apart of the show.

That and I noticed anytime a child's voice is aired through the tv- the girls stop whatever they are doing and pay attention. It could be a commercial, or a cartoon. But they stop- and time freezes for them. And of course there is the appeal of cartoons or 'movies' as Christian calls them. Something about cartoons that makes children take notice.

JMO.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I think it's the interaction. One reason our son loves Diego so much is that is has to do with animals. He is a huge animal lover. Most of my daycare kids are 4 and they all love both shows. It doesn't bother me as much as a lot of other ones out there. I'll take Dora or Diego over Cailou or Boobah ANYDAY of the week!

The only thing I absolutely hate about Dora and Diego is that they sometimes ask for the kids to stand up and participate with dancing or jumping or running. When I put the tv on in the afternoon, it's usually to settle them down after going outside so I can make lunch. The last thing I want is for them to be running around the living room...GRRR!

ashtonsmama replied: Not sure, but my nieces and nephews are all big fans as well.

I think it's a great show, teaches kids to start learning words in Spanish, etc.

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
Ya, some of the things they want the kids to participate in is are a little obnoxious(sp) to be doing inside! But other than that I really like those shows for my son. Dora is cute!

luvmykids replied: My 4yo's both love it too and have picked up quite a bit of espanol LOL. I think it's the interactive thing and the fact that the spanish is something they don't hear anywhere else.

mummy2girls replied: jenna loves dora. She says AHHHH MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN! its so cute!

A&A'smommy replied: I dunno but no four is exactly out of range my four year old neice and five year old nephew still love the show.. they have loved it as long as I have known them!!

PrairieMom replied: Ugh. I don't know. i personally can't stand Dora. We don't do her in our home.

Brias3 replied: Mason's obsessed with Diego and both him and Aliyah enjoy Dora too. I for one get really annoyed with Swiper and Baby Jaguar for some reason. Boots gets irritating too. I don't know why, those characters just really bother me sometimes for some weird reason! laugh.gif The kids enjoy the show so much though. I don't know WHAT it is about them! It's a cute show though, I guess and good for teaching sequence, numbers, counting, letters and some Spanish.

Liz_Kaitlyns_Mama replied: Well, I'm not saying four and five year olds don't love the shows b/c my four year old brother and five year old niece really love it but I am saying that's the shows whole dynamic & way of discussing things is 'below' a four year olds way of thinking...thats just my opinion...I don't know, but kids fascination with it is so wierd to me. wacko.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
Alex does that too!!
Any Dora book we read and he sees Swiper he HAS to say Ooooh Man! It's cute!

I love Dora and Diego!

Liz_Kaitlyns_Mama replied: My lil brother has also picked up snapping his fingers and saying, "Ooh, man!" He especially loves that Diego 'rescues' (like he saved a baby chinchila today)-he's going through a 'rescue, save, be superman' stage.
The shows don't get on my nerves. I think shows like Dora, Diego & PBS's Maya & Miguel are really great b/c there are so many spanish-speaking families in the US and going to our kids schools. smile.gif
