What would you do? - Read the Question

Kirstenmumof3 wrote: What woud you do if you went to use a public washroom and the only washroom available was a handicap one?

Bee_Kay replied: I would use it.... I have before when needed..... Just VERY quickly!

1lilpeanut2love replied: I would use it.... I have also before!!! wink.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: Me, by myself, I could use it quickly then wash my hands outside of that washroom- JIC someone who needed that bathroom could gain access to it.

With 2 children, we often have to use the larger handicap bathroom. It is simply far too crowded in regular stalls for all three of us. Esp if the doors swing in towards the toilet. I usually have to squeeze my large rear end in the corner between the wall and toilet in order to let my kids out first.

luvbug00 replied: We use the handicap one alll the time. I'm not good in small enclosed spaces.

I've used one very quickly. When I'm having a bad day knee wise I have to use one.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: I use it

kimberley replied: i would also go very quickly on my own. but when i am alone shopping with a bunch of kids, i use it without hesitation. i'd rather have the kids with me and safe in the big washroom than vulnerable outside the door.

but i generally avoid public washrooms at all costs unless it is absolutely necessary.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I use it...When you gotta go, you gotta go!

CantWait replied: If I have Anthony with me, I use it. I just like the fact that a) there's more room in there to move around and cool.gif he's able to squeeze in with me.

If I'm alone, and I didn't really have to go, I think I would wait.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: IF and I mean only IF we can't wait til we get home,I usually try to use the handicap stall-It is bigger and that way Tay is with me and not outside the door by herself unsure.gif We really try not to go into the public restrooms though but sometimes like if we are traveling with DH it is unavoidable. I guess to be honest I have never considering using it to stay together as something I shouldn't do or something somebody might take offense to blush.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
same here

mckayleesmom replied:
Ditto

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I always use it if it's the only one available, or if it's the only clean looking one. wink.gif TBH I've never ever even seen someone who actually needs a handicap stall in the restroom at the same time as me, so I just never think of the fact that I might be in someones way.

I also will use the handicap stall if I have Andrew in the stroller - it wouldn't fit in a regular stall and it's not like I can take him out of the stroller and set him on the floor in the bathroom. wink.gif

Jackie012007 replied: I use it if I have to. My best friend is a paraplegic and she says that most people in wheelchairs or with disabilities often don't use the public bathrooms because often they suffer from problems "down there" that require them to be in the bathroom for quite a while and require surfaces to put things on/ extra accessories or treatments. She says most public bathrooms are there because they have to be but aren't really adequate/helpful dunno.gif and most make it a point to go before they leave and only use them in emergencies.

I asked one because I was kinda wondering about handicapped bathroom etiquette blush.gif

Cece00 replied: I use the handicapped one. I've never had to make a handicapped person wait to use the restroom by doing so, but if I did, I would apologize. And I'm always as quick as possible.

redplaydoh replied:

My best friend is also a paraplegic and says the same thing. Otherwise she said she can wait just like anyone else if she needs to.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: I started this poll because while I was out shopping yesterday the only washroom available was the handicap washroom. So I used it and to my surprise, someone with a walker came in and used it right after me. The same thing happened to my friend. For me if it's the only washroom that is empty than I will use it.

JP&KJMOM replied: I also use it if the kids are with me for the extra room. Most of the time if I am alone I will wait for a regular one unless I just can't hold it. laugh.gif

TheOaf66 replied: I would use it because when nature calls you answer. It is not only for handicapped it is just accessible for them so when you gotta go you gotta go.

coasterqueen replied:
Same here.

Maddy'sMommy replied: I use it too..... While I was prego I looked for the hanicap restroom and now I find a lot of times the changing tables are in there too. biggrin.gif

YuMe-n-GavMakes3 replied: I would use it!......And take my time too if I had to! mad.gif

Oh thats right I forgot...........I'm Handicapped! rolleyes.gif

Actually I have never yet had problems in a public restroom waiting to use a stall. And that is one place I do not have as much need for "help" (I have more trouble with long periods of walking over standing still) I can lean on a counter and wait easily in a restroom.

The only thing "Handicapped wise" that fires me up in public is people that decide to use the parking spaces because they will ~only be a few minutes!~ ~need to load something thats going to be in a cart anyhow!~ ~just don't have time to wait for a space to open up~ ... so on.

I am ever thankful for ANY business that provides HC parking and it gets to me how many non-handicapped people will park in them anyhow. I know though if I wait and ask them why they parked there..........its always "Oh I'm sorry....I didn't notice it was marked that way"

Anymore I usually just ignore them or simply say....... " let me guess........your Handicap is...Your Illiterate??" biggrin.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Also...alot of business's have the baby changing table in he handicap stall.

luvmykids replied: I've noticed some places are starting to add "Family" restrooms, like Target and the mall, specifically for larger groups rolling_smile.gif

But if I have the kids I will definitely use the handicapped stall for safety reasons, mainly. You just can't fit four of us in a regular stall.

BAC'sMom replied: I would use it

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I agree honey. thumb.gif

Many people use it. I usually do when I have Tanner with me. I think it's much different than parking in the handicap spot in the parking lot. I will never park in the handicap spots. The restroom you are using for 1 minute, whereas parking is a lot longer.

Nina J replied: I would use the handicapped toilet.

But, I generally try to avoid public toilets unless it's an emergency. I go into a café and buy something so I can use there toilets wink.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: If there are 35 people in the line, I use it if no one is asking for it. If it's only me waiting for an empty stall, I wait.

My2Beauties replied: I will use it as long as someone that has a walker or is in a wheelchair is not behind me and waiting. If I'm alone and someone has a child with them I will let them go in that stall as well. I always use that stall if it's available when I have Hanna with me because those small ones get way too crowded for me.

J-rod replied: if i "need" to use a toilet and the handicap stall is available i always take it....its kinda like the luxury model to me.

[disclaimer] i have never interfered with someone who truley needed it [end disclaimer]
