What were you doing 6 years ago today

My2Beauties wrote: on 9/11? I know everyone remembers what they were doing at the exact moment that they heard that the Towers had collapsed. I was in college and our professor said that he just heard some disturbing news regarding the Towers IN NYC. He let us out of class. I went down to the cafeteria and there was a TV on CNN showing the whole thing. They let us out of classes for the rest of the day and I didn't have to go into work later that afternoon either. I watched the whole thing for the rest of the day. I can remember feeling scared and disgusted at the whole situation and I felt awful sadness for those who lost their lives and their families that day!

BAC'sMom replied: Watching the Today show and seeing everything unfold sad.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: Just walked into world geography class and my teacher always had the news on and she was just STARING at the TV, we all just came in and sat down and were all really in shock.

Insanemomof3 replied: I was laying in bed feeling not too hot when I was newly pregnant with Tristan.

lovemy2 replied: Was at work - someone heard it on a radio - they turned on TVs in the conference rooms and we all watched in horror - I had to leave for an MD appt and while I was on my way the second tower was hit and I remember thinking - I should not be in my car right now I should be with my family....then DH and I got married 18 days later with a few guests missing who didn't want to fly sleep.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: I was at work and just turned on my computer and saw the news clip. Obviously by about 5 minutes later, no one was working anymore. After the second plane hit, they closed our agency and let us go home. It was the only time I ever saw the TV on when my babysitter was watching the kids. They were all in bed and she was watching the coverage. I remember calling Stephen, my parents and my sister just because I wanted to hear their voices.

jcc64 replied: I was working in NYC at the time, but that particular day, I happened to be working from home. My dh called and told me to turn on the tv- at that point, we were both thinking it was just a small plane involved in a horrible accident. When the 2nd plane hit, we knew what was happening. I frantically tried to get in touch with my co-workers, as well as my brother who working in a major NY hospital in the ICU, and my dad, who was an EMT, who along with all the other first responders in the NY area, were sent to a staging area to receive the wounded. Unfortunately, there weren't enough survivors to warrant their involvement. All the phone lines were jammed- and it took me hours to ascertain that all of my loved ones were ok.
We lost several people from our surrounding area, as well as some people I went to high school with.
It was a horrible day.

TheOaf66 replied: I was on my way to work when I first heard about it

Cece00 replied: I was on my way to my OB appt with Ross.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: I was a Sr in HS...sitting next to my best friend in psychology class taking a test...a guy named Dave came in late to class and started telling us all what was happening in new york, we all thought he was making up a bizzare reason as to why he was late for class. I can still hear the teacher telling him Okay Dave take a seat and handing him a test..then the principal came on the loud speaker and announced what was going on and we turned on the news in class and all sat in complete disbelief. At the time my boyfriend was in New York...I tried to call him right away, but couldnt get through I was soo scared for him and didnt hear from him for a long time or what felt like a long time.

*All Gave Some and Some Gave All*

HuskerMom replied: I was working at a daycare at the time. The tv was on in the kitchen so I got to watch for a little while in there. All I wanted to do was go home. When Dh and I were at home for lunch that day we threw a tape in the vcr and taped the news the rest of the afternoon.

lisar replied: I was working for the city and when it all went down we were in this little office watching this 7inch tv to see it all. And then we were all evacuated and sent home cause it was a goverment building and there were threats. (which were bogus but on that day they werent gona play with them) Normally we would all be sent outside and they would clear the building and then we would go back in but that day they sent us all home.
And I went home and sat in front of the tv and watched it all, cried a few times and just felt so bad for everyone.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wasn't working at the time, but preparing for my wedding the next month. Home alone because DH was on a business trip in Seattle. DH called and told me to turn on the TV. Saw the first plane hit. Glued to the tv for the rest of the day. DH and his coworkers had to take a van back to Colorado since all flights were cancelled.

Calimama replied: I was in HS sitting in my English class.

Insanemomof3 replied:
LOL sorry, that makes me feel so old. LOL

PrairieMom replied: I had worked the night before so I was sleeping, Dh called and woke me up, I was watching the TV on time to see the second plane hit, and the towers fall.
that was a horrible day. yuck.

holley79 replied: I was sitting on the couch with GMA on the TV. I was reading the third book of "The Left Behind" series. I remember GMA going off and the towers coming into focus. I was a little confused. Next thing I saw was the second plane crash into the towers. Shawn was working nights so he was upstairs asleep. I remember running up the stairs and waking him. About that time all the phones were rining in the house. I answered one while he answered the other. One of the calls was from the base he works on telling him the base was on lock down and not to come into work till further notice. The other call was from his squadron in New Orleans telling him to pack a bag he was on stand by.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I was working for the government, in the Justice Department. Literally across the street from the Parliament buildings...which I guess would be the equivalent of your White House... I was wearing a blue suit with satin lining. We heard it on the radio that one of the girls was listening to. We cranked it up and ran to get portable tvs.

Then we were evacuated...everyone within a couple blocks were.

dylansmom01 replied: We were in Florida on vacation...we were sitting down to eat breakfest and the news was on. I seen the plane hit the 1st tower, I could believe what I just saw. Then a few minutes later we seen the 2nd plan hit and I started to cry....those poor people.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Glued to the tv. I watched the entire thing from beginning to end on the today show. sad.gif bawling.gif I didn't leave my house for days and when I finally did, I had to turn around and come back home b/c I was sobbing so badly. All the flags, the songs on the radio, etc just choked me up. It was awful. I remember not leaving the TV for days, also. I just remember keeping Maddie (15 mos) so close to me. I was SO afraid for all of our lives. It was terrifying not knowing what, if anything, would happen next. We were just in NYC in April that same year and I remember taking out my pics of the twin towers...I was so fascinated by them when we were there. We spent a lot of time down by the WTC. It's just scary. sleep.gif

It's hard to believe it's been 6 yrs.

luvmykids replied: I had just finished a bout of m/s and was laying down watching the Today show. I, like many, assumed the first plane was a terrible accident. Called DH to tell him about it and the second plane hit....I watched TV for days. That first day was awful, wondering if/when something else was going to happen. We were getting married on Sept 29th and I remember feeling so guilty trying to plan the last minute details, which seemed so trivial, in the midst of all the tragedy.

Farelle replied: I can remember the exact location I was on the highway on the way to school (college) Then they sent us home ealry bc no one wanted to stay in class, we all wanted to know what was going on. I remember I had such an eerie feeling driving home as I was listening to the country being shut down. It's still so sad! And even sadder that I don't think we have made a difference in that country despite all the brave men and women who have fought this war for us!!

MoonMama replied: I graduated early so at that point I was a full time babysitter/nanny to a family friends little girl. I remember the TV was on (her parents had it on) and I was kind of watching to see what exactly was happening, and her and I were playing with some of her toys. I looked over at the TV and saw the second plane hit. I was pretty much glued to the TV the rest of the day. And I remember at that time (I was 16) trying to answer the little girls questions about what happened. Because her parents (who had not left for work yet at the time) kind of just brushed her off about it, even after she told them she was really scared. sad.gif sleep.gif

ETD: I remember feeling unreal like it was all unreal, I just couldn't believe what was happening. My heart was breaking and going out to all those people. bawling.gif sleep.gif I don't think those images will ever leave me. sleep.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: John was home sick and we were watching TV bc at that time I was only working when they needed me any way to the point Ed called and told me to put on any reg. channel and John and I sat there like OMG WTF!!!!!!!
And all I could think about were my other kids in school and for God to keep them safe even tho were 3 1/2 hours from NYC and 2 hours the most from PA and 4 hours from DC.

But seeing the faces of those people I will never forget

TANNER'S MOM replied: I still get chocked up. I was working..and I listening to the radio. Sitting at my desk..and I thought this is one of those strange jokes it can't be real. They have to come back on and say..it was a mistake. We were all kind of like zombies. I remember Dh was home asleep b/c he had worked the night before. I called him and he got up went and got Tanner from the babysitter and come and got me. I cried and he was so moved that he cried too. My Dh doesn't cry much. But he was so sad.

I remember just thinking it's not real.

mom2patrick&jalin replied: I was sitting at home watching GMA. The DH was off work that day and I had to wake him up. I could not believe what was happening. I cried and watched TV for most of that day. I begged my DH not to make me take our son and our great-nephew(whom I babysat for) to their Afternooon Kindergarten. The only two times I was away from the TV were when I took the boys to school and when I went and picked them up. I remember how hard it was to tell my little 5 year old what was happening. Infact we put a small TV and VCR in his room so he did not have to be subjected to it but also did not want to hide it from him either. That was the worst day I can remember!! I do not think I will ever feel completly safe ever again!

redchief replied: I was in the plumbing office preparing to go to work. My first move was to get my father, who was on the beach.

Celestrina replied: I was at work. We were living in Maryland at the time, right outside of DC. When I heard about the Pentagon I totally freaked. Steve worked not far from it; he could even see the smoke from his office. Because the phone lines were so tied up I couldn't reach him for three hours. We were sitting numb in our office, trying to let this sink in. Finally our manager said we could go home. The restaurant next door to the office was run by a family from Afghanistan and they were horrified by this. They had a tv and we were taking turns going over to see what was happening, and they were just sitting there crying.
