What was your first car?? - 2 questions
C&K*s Mommie wrote: Was it a beater? (a car that you hoped would get you from point A to point B )
Did you drive fast in it, as though you had the fastest, & sportiest car in town?
~~~~~ I ask because they are some crazy speeders in our neighborhood (young people, might I add) and as parents Chris and I are appalled at how ridiculously fast they drive up and down our road. I made the comment that I used to drive fast too (still do, just I am more cautious now) when I was younger. He could not believe that I could drive fast in my little Dodge Colt , but I was a speed racer.
holley79 replied: It was a 1987 Nissian Sentra 5 speed and 5th gear was going out. It was a beater but fine because I was the only one with a car. I would have to hold it in 5th. I didn't speed. It drives me crazy the way kids drive in our neighborhood. When will they learn that speed kills and they will get there in the sameamount of time.
Edited to fix something.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: My Dad bought my first car from a lady he works with. It was a 1994 Pontiac Grand AM. That was in 2000 or 2001. DH (my then boyfriend) and I used to take it out of state when we werent quite sure we would get back home. We ran it till it wouldnt run anymore. It died in 2004 and DH and I got a '01 Neon. The dealership took my piece of junk with out seeing it as a trade in for $500! I thought that was way way way more than it was worth!
luvmykids replied: My first car was a 1967 Volkswagon Bug. My dad did a lot to fix it up, poor guy. The gas gauge didn't work, so I had to put gas in every other day just to be sure, it always vapor locked and left me stranded with him picking me and my friends up somewhere, it had a GIANT foot shaped gas pedal, sounded like a lawn mower, and once when one of my friends stood up to get out, the floor finally gave out and she fell through it!
So to answer your questions, yes, it was a beater but I loved it. And no, I did not speed because it just didn't go very fast!
kit_kats_mom replied: My first car was a 1971 VW Super Beetle. It was made the year I was born and yes it was a beater.
I tried to drive fast but it didn't really work.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: 1989 Ford Bronco II. It was a good car....I LOVED that car. But, I wrecked it and it never ran right after that. Yes, I drove it fast. I drove the crap out of that car.
My3LilMonkeys replied: 1984 Monte Carlo. It was not quite a beater but not quite in good shape - we called it my ghetto car . But it could outrace anything so yeah, I drove it fast any chance I got. I miss that car.
mummy2girls replied: mine was a 1988 dodge colt... it was a piece of pooh. i had it for ay year and then it started to burn oil so major blue smoke came out of the car whenever i was idle..LOL.. the bumper was hanging onto thread, the back doors would not open from the inside, the drivers window would roll down but niot back up,
huggybugboy replied: I drove my parents car for the first few years but my Grandma & Grandpa gave me my first car for HS graduation. It was their 93 camaro. I loved it and did drive too fast (although I never was ticketed.) But it was a chevy and everything went wrong on it, so we got rid of it and bought a family car. I guess I would consider it a beater althought it looked really hot. But the windows wouldnt roll down, no matter how many times I changed the plugs. The doors wouldnt lock automatically. The door got stuck somehow once when I was at the grocery store and would not close all the way. I had to drive home holding this giant door closed and tried not to let it fly open. When the head gaskets blew, that was it.
A&A'smommy replied: I had a grand prix it was actually my inlaws but they traded vehicals with us so that I could have something to drive (I thought they were GREAT for that). It was pretty much a beater but it got us where we needed to go AND I did drive it fast but I was also cautious for the most part!
mckayleesmom replied: My first car I got when I was 18...because I waited to get my licence till I was 17. I drove my moms before that. I financed a 93 Saturn, 4 door, white. It only had 30,000 miles on it when I bought it. It only had one owner and it was an old man. The car was pretty much brand new. I loved it for a while, but the breaks on it were really wierd and sometimes would click and not catch..scared me to death and I finally traded it in for a Pontiac Sunfire (LOVED THAT CAR).
mammag replied: Mine was a 1992 Jeep Cherokee. It was great back then....I still have the thing and it's running great. That is what I make dh drive to work.
I never really drove crazy because when I had my learners permit I got a speeding ticket...going less than 10mph over speed limit on the freeway so I didn't want any more of those.
3_call_me_mama replied: My first car was a 1994 Hyundai Excel. (tiny littel thing! ) I got it in 1995 and it had 12,000 miles on it. Some littel old lady owned it. It wasnt' a beater it was almost brand new. A friend totalled it almost 18 months later and i got exactally what i paid for it from the ins company i didn;t drive it crazy.... cause i didnt' want my parents to take it away! LOL
coasterqueen replied: My first car was a 1977 white Chevy Malibu Classic. It definitely was a beater! There was so much rust on that thing. The trunk was so rusted out that it had holes in it. We lost many bottles of alcohol forgetting to plug up those holes first. It had an 8-track in it too. The ignition switch would lock so anyone could steal it w/o a key. It was stolen several times as jokes in HS. It was nicknamed the Cancermobile by many. Not sure if it was because I smoked or if it's because it looked like the car had cancer from all the rust. I had some good times in that car, though. And of course I FLEW in that thing. Who wouldn't in a huge beater?
lisar replied: My first car was a pontiac lemans (hatch back) dont remember what year. It got me from point a to point b for a year before it died. It wa given to me so I didnt mind the car at all.
BAC'sMom replied: It was a 1984 Chevy Monte Carlo.It was my sister's car, she gave it to me when she moved to England. Great car and she would haul a$$!
kayla's mama replied: My first car was a Hyndia Scoupe. My parents bought it for me to share with my mom. And yes I drove the thing like I owned the road. Needless to say I almost had the liscence revoked for too many points on my liscence
Kaitlin'smom replied: I have no idea the year of my first car it was white, I think it was some kinda of chevy I had it maybe a week when I made DH take it back, it had NO FLOOR boards. It was the first and LAST time I let DH get a car for me without me looking at it.
jcc64 replied: A 1980 Subaru hatchback of some sort. Drove it until the gaping rust hole in the floor became so big that the seat actually started sagging into it.
na81 replied: I bought a 1994 Saturn SC2 2 door, red when I got my license!! I LOVED it! It was sporty and fast!! I never worried whether I would get to where I was going or not because it was a very good car. I never had any real problems with it until after I had it paid off and that was only the starter. It still runs... but it's sitting in the yard... too small to put a carseat in!!
luvbug00 replied: I'm a little late for this one.heee
I have as my fist car a 2004 nissan sentra. I drive it like a bat out of ___ on the highway but slow through neighborhoods. I wouldn't want anyone to accedently hit my child so I go slow so i don't hit anyone elses children. respect baby!
Adrienne522 replied: My first car was a 88 Cutlass Calais (sp?) I bought it from my brother for $300 in 1995. I did not drive fast or carzy in it. I did think that it could go through a brick wall if it had to. I thought it was a tank. I loved it.!!!
PrairieMom replied: I had an 84 chevy celebrity. I ran it streight into the ground! We used to joke that you would fill the oil and check the gas! It was horrible. That thing always started tho, and could drive through anything. it was a tank!
1lilpeanut2love replied: I bought a 1997 Ford Escort at a gas station that sold cars. LOL
When I was 9 months pregnant with Kaylee. I had only had the car for 11 months we were rear-ended by illegal people and it totalled the car! That was the worst day of my life. I thought I had lost my little girl. Luckily she was okay!!
Chiflata2003 replied: My first car is the car we have now. 2005 Chevy malibu. I didnt get one as a teenager because my parents believe that I should buy my own. I didnt work during high school because I was too lazy too, lol. Anyway, I worked part time jobs here and there when I got pregnant, and then when my dh went into the Army last year all the money we got for bah and seperation pay I saved up (since I was living with my mom) and was able to buy the car we have. I thank my parents for not giving me one because it felt so good to go in there and hand the money that was mine (and dh's of course LOL) over for it.
Cece00 replied: I had a 1992 Nissan Stanza, in 1998. It was actually a pretty good car.
salmndr007 replied: My first car was a 1989 dark blue Ford Aerostar Mini-van. Seatbelts didn't work, AC didn't work...the heater worked great, but in Louisiana, you might use it one or two days out of the year. My mom gave me the keys when I was 14 because she was tired of driving me to all of my activities with the warning of "Don't get caught, and if you do, I don't know anything about it!" LOL
For the second question...I drove that mini-van like it was a ferrari. I would race any and every car that pulled up beside me. I raced muscle cars, imports, even some of the cops (the ones that I knew anyway). I drove that car till I was 18 and then bought a Ford Focus...which was brand new at the time, but 2 years later, drove just like the Aerostar. What can ya do?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I bought my first car I was 18 - it was an 88 Camaro - I had it rebuilt. I'd actually bought it for about 1800$ (canadian $$) and put about 3500$ canadian on the bodywork...
Then I sold it for 3500$ US (it came out to 5400$ canadian back then) so I didn't really lose out anything from it. DH had a Honda Civic ( ) and it's lease was running out.... his parents were paying for it... so we leased a 2002 Chevy Cavalier. We lease it before selling the Camaro - but whst's kind of funny is that the dealer offered us a 500$ trade in - but I got 5400$ for it sold privately...just goes to show, eh?
Then we had a 2005 Chevy Uplander... which dh totalled within 6 months... and now we have a 2001 Buick Century
C&K*s Mommie replied: Same here. I do not drive fast through neighborhoods, well except this one artery street. I go 40 to get over the speed bumps without slowing down. But I have never seen any kids on that road, which I am glad because everyone uses that street more than any other.
