I had a thick book of nursery rhymes. Over time it has lost it's cover, moved from Oregon, Arizona, Washington back to Oregon and been with me forever!
I still have it.
I enjoyed reading it to my kids when they were small.
MomToMany replied: I have 2. Richard Scarry's Big Book Of Everything, Which I still have. The other one had nursery rhymes in it. I don't have that one anymore . Not sure what the name was, but it was big & red, and it had Goldilocks & the 3 bears in the middle of the cover. I wish I could find it !!

I also loved the Shel Silverstein books because the lady from the local library used to come to our school and read them to us and she did such a wonderful job. She really made me love books. I should go to the library there and see if she still works there (she did the last time I was there) and thank her.....

DansMom replied: I remember really liking the Dr. Seuss collection that contained The Pants With Nobody Inside Them. There's another story in that collection where two characters are on a walk and end up face to face. Neither one will budge, and eventually life goes on around them, a highway is built, etc. I loved that!
At an older age, I adored Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass, and the Little House books. I read those multiple times throughout my childhood.

kit_kats_mom replied: how could I have forgotten EB White books? Trumpet of the swan, Stewart Little, charlottes web?
I clearly remember reading charlottes web at my grandparents kitchen table aloud while they cooked dinner. My grandpa made me go get their gianormous dictionary to look up the word "just" when it came up in the book. Where she was using it like justice. We then all discussed what justice was and the meaning of it in the story. I was really ticked that he would interrupt my story to do all that but now, everytime I read the story or watch the movie, I remember him when just pops up.
DansMom replied: Cary, Charlottes Web was the first long book I read all by myself and to myself, when I was 9 years old. Such fond memories. And the first time I cried while reading a book! I'll never forget it. I still to this day, when I find a spider in the house, put it outside with a loving heart. But, I do eat bacon and ham.
