What toys do you remember?

mckayleesmom wrote: I know we had the discussion about what kind of toys our parents keep, but last night I was watching Baby Boom with Diane Keaton and there is a part where she buys a bunch of toys for the little girl and when they are wheeling them to the cab there was a Cricket doll. I totally forgot that doll existed, I had one though. Now I want to buy one for Mckaylee.

coasterqueen replied: I actually want to buy toys for Kylie that I didn't have as a child. Like the easy bake oven, all kinds of barbie stuff I didn't have. The doll that pees, do they still have that? lol. There are toys that I had as a kid and didn't have that I can't believe are still around! It amazes me!

Shooter replied: I remember something I loved in the early 70's that I'm sure would be considered WAY too dangerous these days. It was a helicopter toy called the Vertibird. There were several different versions of it. I had the police one. It died out in the late 70's.

I had TONS of GI Joe stuff, the original. Matter of fact, between myself and all the other guys in the neighborhood, we had an army of GI Joes! biggrin.gif

supermom replied: LOL - I remember the Heidi doll, you pushed a button on her tummy and she would "wave" - she also had a little oriental friend named Jan. Personally, my sister and I were much more into Hot Wheels - we had a huge track, and would run the cars around it over and over - laugh - funny how tom-boyish we were even without societies approval or anything else (I'm 44 so that was a BIG deal back then!) I also had Barbie, and all of her pals, too......and there was a special baby doll that I had and her name (I named her) was Elaine. Man, there were quite a few, I can't remember them all......

Kirstenmumof3 replied: rolling_smile.gif My little pony, Cabbage Patch Dolls (although I didn't get one until I was almost an adult), Barbie, Charmkins! So many memories! My bestfriend had a Cricket Doll and she gave it to my oldest DD. We just need to get some batteries for it and she still works! I went on Ebay and bought a bunch of books and tapes for the doll, add a little variety! rolling_smile.gif

mckayleesmom replied: lol...GI Joes,,,I loved them, I wasn't that much of a Tomboy but but I had a crush on the boy next door who just happened to need somebody to play GI Joes with, so of course I volonteered rolleyes.gif I didn't think they were that much fun before that.

I had cabbage patch dolls

Probably every barbie doll you could think of until my mom got mad cause I didn't pick them up so she warned me 3 times, then gave them to the salvation army.

Fragile rock dolls

I totally collected garbage pale kids and had the movie too.

Pound puppies.

simple simon

I had this doll my dad bought called Patty Playpal,,,well right after he bought me the doll he let me watch Childs Play,,,, and my doll was just like that except her voice and tapes went into a lunchpale that she came with,,,,man after that movie I chopped off all her hair and burried her in my closet..She lived there till I was about 15.

Does anybody remember the Snorks? they had a cartoon too

amynicole21 replied: Wow, does this bring back some memories!! biggrin.gif I loved My Little Pony, lite bright, pound puppies, transformers, and I loved art projects like those things you sprinkled glass chips or something into and then put them in the oven to make sun catchers. I also had a lot of play dough toys like a barber shop where you put little toy people in the chair and cranked a lever and their hair would grow! I played with lots of things like rubick's cubes and the missing link, and who could forget Atari!! rolling_smile.gif

Mommieto2Girls replied: OMG, we all grew up in the same time. biggrin.gif That's for bringing back all the memories.

Shooter replied: My neighbor had the Atari. We had INTELLIVISION! rolling_smile.gif

mckayleesmom replied: we had an atari for a while, I loved packman,,,,Just the other day my husband was talking about the atari and how his old babysitter would only let them play the strawberry shortcake atari game..lol

I don't know if these are the same kind of airplanes as was discussed earlier, but we had those airplanes where they were connected to a remote by a wire,,you hit the button and it flew in circles and you held it above your head.

I forgot about Rockem Sockem Robbots

My brothers had Heman and I had Sheera

Shooter replied: Oh...AND a Commodore 64, eventually. blush.gif

amynicole21 replied:
YES! The Commadore 64 was the BEST!! LOL! Too funny biggrin.gif

Shooter replied: OMG, I remember my dad having a cassette tape hooked up to that thing to store some memory on. That and the huge old floppies. Geez, was like we were computing with rocks and sticks compared to today. emlaugh.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:

Shooter replied: I want my son to have one of the original "Big Wheel" toys to ride on. I always wanted one of those, but never got one. bawling.gif

blush.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I use to steel my brothers Night Rider big wheel with the squirt guns on it.

coasterqueen replied:
OOoh I want Kylie to have one of those too!! I always thought those were so cool. They don't make them anymore, do they?

Karen & Kylie 9/7/02

Shooter replied: I don't think so...there are all kinds of other weird versions. Everything seems like it has to be strange looking these days. Can't just look like a cool bike. Has to look like some monster and transform into something else too. I haven't seen just a plain Big Wheel in ages.

Thought of something else...bicycles with high rise handlebars, banana seats, and sissy bars. One of my friends had a bike with a steering wheel instead of handlebars. Never did get the hang of riding that thing. wacko.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I see big wheels at yard sales sometimes...

ok I got more....

Don't break the ice
sit and spin
watchamils,,,,remember they were the animal watches kind of like the alf watch
lil miss make-up
cupie dolls
hug a bunch dolls
keepers,,,,those little toys made out of plastic that you hid stuff in their bellys,,,i think they even had a my little pony one

Heather replied: YEH, I miss things from when I was a kid. Not to get too off topic but..did you guys have big neighborhood games where you would play cops and robbers, hide-n-seek and stuff like that? With all the neighborhood kids?? I never see kids playing outside anymore...now they have video games and tv to vegetize them. I hope to live in a neighborhood where there a lot of kids and they make use of being outside!! Okay sorry...

I have seen Big Wheels at Toys r Us...I want on for Ali too...LOL my neighbor has one...it looks a little more modern but it is definitely a big wheel!!

mckayleesmom replied: ya all the kids in the neiborhood would get together and play hide and seek,,red light green light,,,mother may I,,,,and not just kids of the same age,,,all kids,,,even ones in high school...I really miss those days...Im so sad that Mckaylee isn't going to get to grow up without fear that our kids will be kidnapped,,,shoot now they can even be stollen from their own bedrooms.

maliksmommy replied: I absolutely loved my neighborhood, we lived in a circle and every house had kids and we always played together. It is so sad that our kids won't be able to have that kind of fun. It's crazy when I go to the store and I see Care Bears and Strawbery Shortcake and He-Man. They had to be great toys to have them back again:)

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Yup - but only one of them has a printer. I still have a package of banner paper too! I don't want to open it, I haven't found any anywhere...who knows......it might fetch a bunch of $$ later on!!

I must have like 6 or 7 cases full of 5" floppies with games on them. ha!

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
Try going to ebay. They have everything. I got a Holly Hobby from there that was still in the box. thumb.gif

supermom replied: The one thought that crossed my mind was the big fad when I was a teenager (now I am telling my age, again!) - it was a Pet Rock. Whoever came up with that idea made a mint! They were the hottest things around for about 6 months.....LOL!!

And I still have our Atari game, too, complete with about 15 games. I used to work for Commodore (in the accounting dept) when the Commodore 64 got to be "popular" - what a trip, for sure!!

alice&arik replied: OMG i so remember Atari games with my brother. Every christmas we would upgrade. Nintendo, super nintendo, etc. I am for sure going to get arik a hot wheels. I always wanted one when i was little. We always had the peddle ones. it is going to be the electric ones like the siverados they have at walmart!! i can't wait til he's bigger. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I had all the barbies and all the accessories! I had the barbie camper, the barbie swimming pool and of course the barbie corvette. smile.gif

I remember the atari too.. hehe, what a hoot! I think my Mom still has the atari in her attic somewhere.

I also had this red riding hood doll that my Grandma bought me. WHen you flipped it upside down, the dress covered little red riding hoods face and it was the big bad wolf. LOL. Strange what we remember. wink.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
I remember that doll mommytoAshley. I think my grandma still has it somewhere.

MomToMany replied: OMG!! The memories this brings back!! I remember having STACKS of the Garbage Pal Kids cards, Cabbage Patch Dolls, pretty much everything mckayleesmom said! They don't make quality toys anymore, do they??

amynicole21 replied: LOL! I have the entire 1st edition of Garbage Pail Kids at my Mom's house. I won them from my busdriver for being the best behaved on the bus!! I think they're worth some money now... (off to go check ebay...) rolling_smile.gif

mckayleesmom replied: no they really don't have quality toys anymore. They have toys with great technology but it doesn't leave anything to the imagination anymore. I really want mckaylee to have alot of the toys we had as kids. I think Im going to start shopping on ebay more often.

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
I had the barbie camper too, when it was that 2 foot long yellow thing with the shower and everything. I wish I had kept that thing.

MommyToAshley replied:
Yup, same one! I remember I hit the next door neighbor kid in the head with it because he kept teasing me. hehe. rolling_smile.gif
