What to feed a 1 year old?!

tacs102905 wrote: I want to wean my son from the pureed baby food and start giving him more table foods. He just turned a year and has 4 teeth (5th one is on the way!). I have googled and asked the pediatrican about what to feed him. Sounds like just about everything I eat, the problem is...my son prefers the baby food over the table food. Any advice?? Thanks!

MoonMama replied: I don't really have any advice, as my son wont touch baby food anymore 9did this on his own) and is all about whatever we are eating. But wanted to send some hugs hug.gif god luck.

But I do give Braedin fruits and veggies and such in one of these (pic below) all the time and he LOVES it, his fav beinf peaches. Maybe try that with fruit or something your baby really likes and maybe he'll start to get the idea. hug.gif Good luck.

moped replied: Gosh I am trying to remember

cheese
small pieces of bread with a bit of butter
whatever you guys eat but smaller

redplaydoh replied: I had a wonderful book that helped me a lot. It was called Super Baby Food. It had a ton of information on what/how/when to start food for babies/toddlers. It also had some good recipies.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: How about finding the same foods that he likes pureed, but make them a little more chunky. Like carrots. Steam some carrots until they are really soft and then chop them into really small cubes.

Other ideas that my 14 month old likes: small pieces of cheese, tofu, cottage cheese, macaroni really soft, deli turkey, chicken nuggets, black beans, any type of fruit but be really careful with grapes, all beef bologna, crackers, green beans...The list goes on and on. It really can be anything you eat, but make sure to cut it up really really small. Meats are still sorta hard for Wesley unless it is soft like bologna (which I know is gross, but occasionally it is okay to me).

Calimama replied: I'm not much help either at around 9-10 months she decided she didn't want to eat baby jarred food. Bella eats smaller verison of what we eat. She loves grilled chicken, steamed veggies, fruit in the mesh feeder Ally suggested, mashed potatoes, homeade soup, applesauce, she loves it all. I just make sure it's cooked a bit more for her and the pieces are small.

redchief replied: Maybe slowly mix your food in with the prepared stuff, gradually increasing yours and decreasing the packaged stuff until he's totally off. We found that our kids weren't used to the intensity of the flavors of our foods compared with the bland packaged stuff, so there was an adjustment process.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Just offer him what you eat, if he doesn't eat don't go back and give him baby food or he will know that if he holds out, you will give him what he wants. Just cut everything up in tiny pieces for him. Sooner or later he will know the baby food is done with and if he really is hungry he will sooner or later eat whatever you give him. He's not going to starve, so don't worry. wink.gif

Farelle replied: My boys LOVED Gerber Puffs when they were learning to eat solid foods. They are just the right size for little hands and they melt in their mouth in case too many are put in at once! tongue.gif

Cece00 replied: Lets see, these are some of the things my 11 month old likes:

(I cut ALL of these up pretty fine, for choking hazard reasons, of course)

bananas
grapes
peaches
pears
watermelon
sweet potatoes
green beans
peas
corn
potatoes
rice
string cheese
any type of cheese, really
yogurt
applesauce
chicken (grilled, baked, whatever...)
ground meat
pork chops
toast
english muffins
pancakes
waffles
dry cereal (cheerios, kix, fruity cheerios)
cereal soaked in milk (shredded wheat)
oatmeal

Uhhh...so anyway, pretty much ANYTHING we eat. He loves food, and HATES baby food. I dont give steak, even cut up, honey, he's only had PB a couple of times, any nuts, popcorn, candy, chips, etc.

For example, tonight we had meatloaf, corn, and mashed potatoes, with some grapes. I just cut up the meatloaf and grapes pretty well & he ate all of it.

We're having a problem with Caydence eating because she is just now starting to get teeth... her first came in at 10 months and she has 4 with one popping through now (she'll be one in a little over a week). It's so tough because with only those few teeth she really can't handle a lot of the food.

We've started with the little gerber puffs and the chunkier baby foods just to see if she could handle chewing at all and next we'll move on to the baked sweet potatoes, and steamed carrots and such. I don't think she'll be ready for things like chicken nuggets and such for a little while just because of her teeth.

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Why is this thread making me hungry ? unsure.gif
