What questions would you ask - The Gosselins??

cameragirl21 replied: I think the show once mentioned that Jon's parents are far away and Kate's choose not be involved. As to what I would ask them, tbh, I'm pretty impressed with how clean she keeps the house and would love to know how she does it all with this many kids to mess it up. Tbh, though, what I REALLY wonder about A LOT is where they get the $$ to live like they do, taking the kids out to eat, taking each one to have their own special day, the clothes, Kate and the girls have spa day in Hawaii, etc. I know Jon works but the handful of times I've watched, he seems to be always home during the day. So unless they are being paid well into the six figures by TLC (or is it Discovery, I can never remember as the two channels are side by side here) then I'm wondering where the money is coming from.
stella6979 replied: LOL! Oh man, don't get me started!! Kate's brother and SIL (jody) are no longer a part of the show, because TLC offered them money and Kate wasn't having any of that. So ya, she pretty much just kicked them out of their lives. Real nice Kate. Also, I read somewhere that her Parents offered to buy them used furniture and stuff after the sextuplets were born and Kate threw a fit cause she wanted new stuff and so ya...she kicked them out of their lives as well. My only question for Kate would be....why are you such a $&#*@?!!!!
stella6979 replied: Neither of them work anymore and they also have an organic gourmet chef, so when you hear Kate talking about cooking for a family of 10, keep in mind, she does none of the cooking. I'm guessing they've probably invested some money which just keeps growing and that's why they have all they have. As for the trips, they are all paid for by the places they stay.
MommyToAshley replied: I am sure they make a decent income from the show. She has also written a book and gets paid for speaking engagements.
cameragirl21 replied: I am sure they do too but decent to you and me vs decent to them are different things. In order to support 8 kids in new clothes, with trips to the museum where they all get to pick a toy, etc, which is what I see everytime I watch that show...those kids seem to more or less get something at every outing and I see frivolous luxuries like cut flowers in their house...all that adds up and I imagine to live like that with all those kids requires at minimum 150k annually and I bet that wouldn't even be enough. I have made close to that much annually and I assure you there is NO way I could have supported 8 children in that lifestyle on that salary, no way, no how. I realize that Miami may be way more expensive as far as cost of living than where they live but still. I'm contantly blown away by how much they must be spending and where they're getting the money to do it.
cameragirl21 replied: oh yes, there's the book...I quoted and posted before you added that in. Ok, well, I guess the book probably makes them a considerable income, I'd not considered that.
stella6979 replied: Like I said, everything they get is paid for and not by them. Those GAP shirts you always see them wearing is just more advertisment for GAP so they get that stuff free. All the trips they take are paid for by the resorts they stay in...again, just more advertising for the resorts. Although, the house they decided wasn't right for them was a 1.9 million dollar home, so I'm sure they are well off.
cameragirl21 replied: Almost makes it worth it to carry and deliver and then raise sextuplets and then top it all off by putting your family on tv for the world's entertainment, doesn't it?
stella6979 replied: Eh, not something I would do, and I do feel bad for those kids and yet...I still watch it.
Nina J replied: Who are Gosselins? I don't think I have heard of them.
mom21kid2dogs replied: There was an interesting article on them in Good Housekeeping mag in November, I think. I read it at the library. I love them. I think they are rather remarkable to have survived all of it thus far. I can't imagine giving up so much control with my newborns as they HAD to. There was a small mention about the fact that they are estranged from Kate's parents. The writer intimates that she had a rather "difficult" childhood but doesn't talk any further about it. They mentioned that one GP was in one episode but apparently they are all pretty far removed from the big picture. They also make no bones about the fact that they only have what they have as a result of opening up their lives to TV 24/7. If I could ask them anything I'd likely ask at what point she got to go to the bathroom without interruption
jem0622 replied: probably just their fave recipes and how they budget their shopping. i may not have 8 but i know what it's like to be outnumbered! ROTFL
lisar replied: You have to remember that alot of what we read on the internet isnt always true. Even if its in a magazine doesnt mean its true either. Those people twist your words alot just to get a good story.
stella6979 replied: Oh, I know that, but the whole thing about Jody came straight from her mouth. She posted a video blog about it. She didn't even want money, she just wants to be able to see her nieces and nephews, but Kate has cut them out of their lives.
jcc64 replied: I love the show and I'm not sure why all the negativity about Kate. Yes, she's a germaphobe and a control freak, but she is self-aware and has a sense of humor about herself. I think their marriage seems enviable, they seem like fairly normal people despite living in a fishbowl, and I really like that they often allow themselves to be edited in a less-than-flattering light, unlike the Duggars who never, ever seem to lose their tempers or freak out. In short, they seem real. I could care less if they are getting rich off of the tv show, why shouldn't they, the network is making tons of money off of their story, they are in effect, tv "stars" and they deserve to be paid accordingly. If I had the chance, I would ask them if they ever worry about the way Maddie is portrayed. She is edited to look like an out-of-control whack job, and when she gets older and sees the comments her parents make about her, I wonder if she'll have issues beyond what she already has. The things they typically say are similar to what my dh and I mutter to each other when out of earshot of our own kids when they're acting like jerks, but I wouldn't necessarily want it broadcast to millions of viewers or even to my own kids.
BecauseIsaidSo replied: When the show had the segment about their garage sale, Kate and Jon donated all the money to charity. Kate explained that most of the kids items were given to them (free of charge) and so they in turn gave the proceeds to charity.
Having 8 children (with 6 of them the same age) has got to be very trying at times. Kate was a nurse before she had children. I personally dont think the camera crew is at their house 7 days a week. I also like the fact that the show isn't scripted and I enjoy the clips of Jon and Kate on the sofa commenting on certain things about the segment that is being viewed.
