What kind of place do you get your hair done at?
superlydia wrote: I normally go to the salon they have at Walmart but have been wanting to go to a "nicer" place, like at a slaon/spa or something. I don't get my hair colored or anything, just a cut. I'm wondering if it's worth it to pay more. Does anybody know the difference, if there is any?
aspenblue1 replied: I have been getting my hair done by the same person for as long as I can remember but DH got me some gift certificates for a free hair cut at a day spa type place. It was very expensive but it was so worth it. It is not something I would do everytime but it was so nice.
kileyjae replied: Cannot help you...I go to Pro Cuts for $10.
5littleladies replied: My brother cuts my hair.
loveydad replied: If i'm lucky my oldest will cut my hair in our kitchen every 6 months. Does that count?
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Um, I go to Great Clips. I had Jennifer's brother cut my hair once and he put 3 layers on one half and 2 on the other, and the whole thing was uneven. 5 minutes after he finished mine he did Jen's and it was perfect. I went to Cole's Salon once and I loved the way it turned out, but it was too spendy for me so after that it was back to good old Great Clips.
damiansmom replied: I' m a hair dresser and I work in a spa. You are definately getting what you pay for. I think if you pay $10 for a haircut you're going to get a $10 haircut. The people that work in a "nicer" place have more trainning than someone at super cuts.I know we all can't afford to spend a small fortune on our hair but treat yourself to it once and a while. If your hair looks ok when you go to wal-mart keep going there but once in a while slurge, you deserve it.
momof2girls replied: WHen it comes to getting your hair done, I say you get what you pay for... I would try a salon in your area, or if you see someone's hair you like ask where they get it done.
I have had some awful cuts! So now I would rather pay more, so Im not shocked when thy are done
ammommy replied: I go to a salon and it's worth it! I think just a cut is only $40, so it's not too outrageous. I'm not sure because I get color/highlights too. If you don't know who to see, call the salon and ask to speak to the manager. S/he can fit you with a stylist who can cut your hair the best. Some are better at short hair, some with trendy looks, some are color experts. If the manager says "oh, everyone here is great" and won't recommend a particular stylist, I've found that it's best to look somewhere else. Everyone has different strengths.
Also, for the first visit, book extra time with the stylist so that you can do a consultation, especially if you want to change your style. Be honest with your answers to the stylist's questions, too. That will help determine the style. If the stylist asks how much time you want to fuss with your hair in the AM, tell the truth!!! If you are looking for a new style, ivillage.com has a neat site that will let you "try on" styles so that you can see what they will look like on you. So, that's way more info than you asked for, but I'm kind of passionate about good cuts, being the victim of some aweful ones
MomToMany replied: I don't usually get my hair "done". My sister trims my hair when she comes for a visit. The last time I went somewhere, I had them whack about 10" off. That was last May.
mom89 replied: A place that cuts hair Seriously,I don't go very often and when I do,its some salon down the street..nothing special.
TANNER'S MOM replied: Well, I am a very lucky person. My best friend is a hairdress, and now an instructor at a school! So, since I had to be her guinea pig thru her school years, I am automatically intitled to free hair do's for the rest of my life!
And she know I get really mad, if she misses up...lol
kimberley replied: i have used the same salon for years but don't go very often because they are sooooo expensive. because i have long hair, they charge me $40 for a trim! it makes me want to ! i don't go anywhere else because i have ended up with a foot taken off my hair when i asked for 3 inches and it was still crooked!
A&A'smommy replied: I go to this salon/spa I LOVE it!
booey2 replied: Well you may all laugh at me but I take the kids to a place called "Kids Zone" and one day I noticed they do adult hair so I said why not give it a go. So I went thru a couple of stylists at this place and finally ended up with the owner being the one I liked the best so - the owner of this place is the one who cuts my hair all the time. So a kids hair cutting place is where I get mine cut and I colour it myself.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: My cousin works for a hoity toity salon in North Dallas and he cuts my hair, puts highlights and lowlights in it all for the cheap, cheap price of $65!! Around here all of that would run you about $200 or more (in a place like he works).
ETA: Yes! There is a BIG difference!
superlydia replied: Thanks guys. I think I'm going to pick up my last paycheck from Walmart today. (It's been sitting there for 2 weeks, I quit so I've been too embarassed to go in and get it . ) And find a place to make an appt. at. I'm so excited .
3xsthefun replied: I go to a Salon(no spa) it is small. I've been going to the same woman for about 6 years now. I don't go that often though.
loveydad replied: The place in town costs 8 dollars for a haircut. Seriously. Maybe its 8 for a trim and 12 for a cut. She's been in business for years and years and years and years and years and years. LOL since even before henry was born. The problem is you have to put up with her. She's one of those people that you can tell is a hair stylist because she NEVER stops gossiping about people!
TeagansMom609 replied: I go to a salon. I tried to go to a few cheap places when I was a teenager and learned my lesson really quick. No way would I ever go back to a place like Super Cuts, or any place like it. They hire people right out of school mostly since the salons like to hire more experienced people. So thats where most people start. In the mall salons, etc. My hair got so messed up just because I was tying to save a buck. You get what you pay for. I dont get my hair cut much, but I do get highlites ever couple months and you really have to get it done "right" or you will look horrible. I will sacrafice the $75 to make sure its done correctly.
ediep replied: I go to a salon spa place. Its not too expensive, maybe about $28 for a cut. I think its worth the money.
MomofJandB replied: I left the guy who cut my hair for 10 years because the color faded after a week and he didn't seem to care! Since then I've gone cheap and expensive. I think I finally found a girl I like at a spa/salon....$45/cut. Definitely worth the money. I have started coloring my own hair, but am thinking about splurging next time and getting it done professionally. The fun part about this salon is that they give you this great scalp massage, cut and style your hair, give you an arm and hand massage and then fix your makeup before you leave!!!! I loved it! I felt so pampered!!!! All for $45!!!
CCTandME replied: I've been going to the same salon for 13years. I am ready for a change. Just afraid of the change. I know what to expect from the women who does my hair. I told her I want something different and she wasn't supportive. I will try another salon eventually. Right now I pay about $40 + tip for haircut and $60 or more for highlights. Depends on how long it has been since I last had it done and how many bowls she has to mix. My hair is down to my waist and VERY thick.
annafrombc replied: I am usually a cheapskate, but when it comes to my hair, I spend a bit more. Imagine if you had to wear ONE SHIRT all month or all year. Would you not buy the best one?? I feel that since I have the same hair every day, I might as well have hair I love. I spend about $50 just on the cut and get it cut about every 4 months. A color and cut costs me about $100 or more. But Im a cheap-o in everything else I do. LOL I do think it makes a difference though. For sure. I just got my hair cut a few days ago as amatter of fact!

Boys r us replied: My mother in law owns a day spa and she does my hair for free(thank god)! But yes it is definitely worth the difference in price to go to the nicer salons in my opinion! Usually, the stylists at the nicer salons frequently go to workshops and so forth to stay up to date with the latest and greatest..
Mommy2BAK replied: I have been going to the same salon for 7 years now, and I love the girl that does my hair! It is a little expensive, but it is definately worth it. Since I have known her for so long I just usually trust her to give me a cute cut, whatever she thinks will look good.
mammag replied: I've gone to both (depending on how much money I have at the time ) and I've had really great cuts at the cheap place and really bad cuts at the expensive place and vice versa. If I have the money I go to an expensive place because I like the atmosphere and I'm hoping to find a really good person that I can go back to.
