What is wrong with these people?!?! - my zoo *not for animal lovers*

PrairieMom wrote: I took The kids to the zoo this morning. They had baby bunnies in the petting zoo that we got to pet. They were SO cute! Benjamin and I talked about how tiny, and soft they are, and all that. He was pretty excited about petting the bunnies.

Then we went to the Alligator exhibit. We were watching them and I pointed one out that was sunning himself on a little hill near us. We were talking about how happy he was to be laying in the sun, and how it feels so good and all that. Then he turned his head towards us and he had the Head of a rabbit in its jaws! He was flinging it around... It was horrible. ohmy.gif I grabbed Benjamin's arm, and pulled him over to me saying OK, lets go now... but he had already seen. Plus all the other mommies with strollers saw it to, and we were all in a rush to get our kids out of there, so no one could move anywhere because of the crowd. So, by now Benjamin was crying, "why is he eating that bunny?!" He was so upset, thinking that this was the same bunny we were petting at the petting zoo. growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif What is wrong with these zoo people???!?!? how horrifying for young children!

I understand that you have to feed these animals, but good grief! at least prepare the food so it doesn't look so bad, OR maybe at alligator feeding time, have a different animal to pet in the petting zoo. growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif

moped replied: Oh dear - that is odd.........

Write them an email

luvbug00 replied: umm i would seggest they post feeding times and a warning for parents. Mya would have flipped too.

CantWait replied: Oh gosh, that's horrible. I feel so bad for Ben. sad.gif Posting feeding times would have been more appropriate.

gr33n3y3z replied: maybe the bunny just hopped in there bc I see them running around where the alligators are at our zoo also

Jamison'smama replied: Good heavens!!! That would have been horrifying. I think a letter is in order!

MommyToAshley replied: YIKES! That is horrible. I wonder if the rabbit just wondered in there and the alligator got an extra little snack that wasn't on the menu. If not, I would definitely write the zoo and let them know that they should at the very least post some kind of schedule/warning.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yep, same thing happened to us last year on Maddie's school field trip. dry.gif Maddie was SO excited to see the white tigers since they are her favorite. We get over there and the tiger is sitting IN the window eating lunch. His lunch was a white bunny rabbit...with NO head!!! The kids freaked. I do have a picture of it (b/c I'm sick like that). When we went the other day to the zoo...it was feeding time for the tigers again. They were eating blocks of frozen fish. huh.gif I'm wondering if they do this during the summer or if someone complained.

ETA: The bunny rabbit was definitely not a wanderer...it was stiff and everything. sad.gif

lovemy2 replied: Oh my - that would have freaked ME out.... ohmy.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: ohmy.gif NO WAY ... that is crazy. I would definetly be writing a letter to the zoo ...

coasterqueen replied:
That was my thinking.

Sorry Ben had to see that though. sad.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: Yikes. Tanner understands that some animals eat meat and he is told about the food chain and such. I'm pretty up front and honest with him. However, seeing it in person isn't all that appropriate for children, IMO, unless they like that kind of thing. As an adult, I even have a hard time seeing any animal eat another animal. Ick!

lisar replied: I thin posting the feeding times would have been a good warning. Lexi thinks stuff like that is cool so I wouldnt have to worry about her.

Sorry he had to see all that.

PrairieMom replied:
I don't think so. There are 4 ft bars all around, I suppose it could have tunneled in...
either way. Ugh. how traumatic.

PrairieMom replied: I think posting feeding times would be a grand idea, or even posting a warning that feedings are taking place would be a great idea. It would help with people that would like to see that sort of thing too. I think I will be writing my zoo.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: ohmy.gif Oh my gosh! Poor Ben. sad.gif What a horrible thing for a little boy to have to see. I think I'd write a letter to them too. dry.gif
