What in the *^%$??? - Vent and question all in one....

I read some stuff on line but I was wondering if anyone has acually dealt with this before.Fom what I read it is really painful after a few days and can take weeks to go away! I am SOOO ANGRY!!! Who would take the chance of getting someone elses kids sick?

Alice replied: I think my daughter had it a year or two ago... and you're totally right!! It is painful and uncomfortable for them-- Julia kept asking me to put a baidaide on her mouth because it hurt (although never to the point of tears, and she was about 3)The doctor prescribed something and it went away in a week or so.

The woman was and is a jerk!!! I would think twice about inviting her over again.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: So I am still pretty ticked this morning at this whole situation so I call a good friend of mine to vent to her and she is totally with me on this-she calls another mom who says she was going to call some of us BECAUSE she talked to this girls sister and 1 of the older kids had STREP AT PLAYGROUP monday and she didn't say anything when he was spitting at kids (gross even if they AREN'T sick) But her excuse was he started antibiotics that he got in the E.R. on Sunday morning! So nobody should get it. I only have one good friend in this playgroup and we both just joined and we both have decided to look for somewhere else to play because from what we are hearing these kids are sick all the time and this seems to be the way she handles it Nobody wants to say anything to her because she is young(not young enough to be this careless) and has several children and they feel like she needs the support. Besides her sister is one of the ones who started the group so I am probably not well liked right now anyway! Her sister thought I was rude for calling last night...I mean "OMG.THey are kids,they get sick" Thats fine when it is an accident or just one of those kid things!!!! Sorry I am done ranting now!

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: My nephew had that a couple months ago. I am not sure exactly what it is but it is contagious. I wouldn't let those kids come over again especially if the mother is that rude to bring them over when she know they were sick.

redchief replied: Hand-Foot-Mouth disease is the cocksackie viral infection. It has similar symptoms to strep, but the virus comes from fecal matter. Treatment is antibiotics and it's rarely deadly, but the sores can be very painful. Best way to prevent it is frequent hand washing.

Foot and Mouth Disease (or Hoof N' Mouth) is a livestock disease that humans can spread to animals but cannot contract. This mostly bovine viral infection is similar to Mad Cow disease so much has been written about.

That's true. After 3 (or 4, I can't remember) full days on an antibiotic, a child is no longer contagious.

Insanemomof3 replied: Sorry to hear this. She sounds horrible. But as for the strep thing, it is not contagious after 24 hours on an antibiotic.
