What ever happen to Recycling - for $$

What ever happen to that?
I just realized that with as much bottles and alluminum cans we go through..we could be rich...
Actually I was thinking it would be a good thing for the kids to do...I did it when I was younger. All the neighbors saved the cans for me and my friend and on Saturdays we would walk around with our wagon to collect them and take them up to the store...back then it was a machine that you used to do it.
Kaitlin'smom replied: we are saving our cans for that reason for extra $$ while the price has droped we are still collecting, and Kaitlin is collecting the pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House they have a pull tab drive in early spring and give prizes to those who bring the most, I think they also break it down by age. We have quite a collection going for her.
mckayleesmom replied: Where do you turn your cans into?
We need to start saving our cans....
AlexsPajamaMama replied: We save our bottles and cans and bring them to the redemption center. We get 5 cents back in Maine.
Kaitlin'smom replied: well I have not yet but we have a place downtown that takes them for $$ my sister has done it once and is collecting again she is saving until they go on vacation late next year and turning them in for extra spending $$
mckayleesmom replied: Sounds good...You can also ask your neighbors to save them for you..Most would be willing if you come to pick them up in a timely manner.
Kaitlin'smom replied: we are olny asking family to save the pull tabs for kaitlin, most are saving the cans to get the money out of also. guess I should have her ask frinds as well to save them for her. we have lots of time to collect them. She is excited and is hoping to have a lot to give them as well as she plans on tring to make another donation to them after her birthday, if we can manage a party she is going to ask for donations again.
My3LilMonkeys replied: My FIL saves his cans and turns them in for $$. I think he takes them to the local junkyard.
lisar replied: we save the cans here to. It takes ALOT of cans to make any money though. As for bottles they dont do that here anymore.
MommyToAshley replied: We turn our cans into the recycling center every spring... I always use the money to buy flowers to plant. I'm not as green as some of you, but it's a start.
Ashley collects the pull tabs with her girl scout troop for RM House too. My Dad had saved a ton for my nephew who never turned them in (he's been saving them for a few years now) so she turned in a big 5 gallon container full of them.
HuskerMom replied: We used to take in cans when I was little. But now I don't know anywhere here that they do that now. I should find out, I haven't done it since I was like 9 so I guess I haven't thought about it.
ZandersMama replied: We have to take them in here, if they are in your garbage the garbage wont be collected. I would anyway, we pay 10 cents per can or bottle extra, and get 5 cents back when we return them.
Cece00 replied: I dont know if they do that here....I should find out, the kids might really like doing that.
I just toss everything into the recycling bin and put it out on Fridays right now
mckayleesmom replied: LOL...you probably don't have my caffine addiction...
