What do you wear in the hospital??? - probably a really dumb question!
jen wrote: Do you wear something they give you and then change into a night gown or what????? I was thinking about buying something new like a gown and robe or soemthing but I am more comfortable in pajama pants but I guess I just needed some suggestions on what to get!!! I mean if you wear your own pajamas when you give birth then I guess wearing pajama pants wouldn't be too PRACTICAL!! sorry! ha ha! I just don't know!
mummy2girls replied: I wore the gowns and house coats they have at the hospital. Because after having a baby you bleed ALOT!(sorry:)) and i figured i would rather dirty thier gowns then my own.LOL. But i did buy flannel pj bottoms and a nice warm cozy top to wear home. There is no way i could of fit my big belly into my old clothes..LOL. It was nice to go home in something really comfy and cozy
Kaitlin'smom replied: I just wore what they gave me...I did bring my own old robe though it can get chilly in the hospital, plus it was cold outside. I did pck my own things but after having a c-section, and with all the bleeding I just decided to used theres. Ieven stocked up on htere undies and pads for home.... did not want to ruin mine.
MommyToAshley replied: I did the same, I brought my own stuff but then decided against it because I did not want my clothes getting ruined. You may also want to bring some lose fitting clothes to wear home. After Ashley was born, I still looked about 6 months PG. I just wore some lose fitting/stretchy pants home.
Jamison'smama replied: I wore their gown before birth and the first day afterwards I think but I brought slippers and wore those. I did wear my own gown after the first day--I just wanted to look better in the pictures. I would suggest a gown over pajama pants in the hospital since they are constantly "checking you" and it is just easier to pull up. If you are planning to nurse and you wear a gown, I suggest either a nursing gown or one that buttons down the front.
I used my old maternity underwear in the hospital since I HATED the mesh underwear and I just threw them out when I left.
Going home I wore just a easy maternity t-shirt and pants from Chicos that got me through my ENTIRE pregnancy and still look great.

jen replied: Thanks this is so helpful and definitely a lot of things I didn't think about!!!
ediep replied: I wore the hospital gown the first day, then I wore my own pajamas and night gowns. They only checked me the first day and night, after that I was fine. I wore thier meshy undies the first day, then i wore my maternity ones.
jdkjd replied: I wore their stuff the first 24 hours then a gown and robe. I loved the mesh undies with the big pads, so I wore them the whole time I was in the hospital. After my first good shower I changed into my stuff.
I wore a big maternity t-shirt and drawstring stretchy maternity pants, so I was comfy.

coasterqueen replied: I wore what they gave me. Used my own slippers, but whoops those got destroyed while there I was there 5 days so after day 2 or so I wore my own nursing gown I bought. But I hated that thing, so I went back to wearing what they gave me, lol.
My (o)(o)'s stuck out of the nursing gown. No privacy at all. Course you don't get that much of that in a hospital anyways.
Schnoogly replied: Wore what they gave me until after the birth. Too much goo and gunk all over everything. Then I changed into my own PJs and my own fleece robe and slippers--my hospital room was FREEZING!! I slept in my robe it was so cold. It made me feel good to put my own clothes on afterwards though.
Beccas_mom replied: I went in for an induction and wore the gown for that I ended up with a Csection so I did not really get to choose what I wore. I had to fight them for 2 hours to let me shower and then I stayed in bed before I left for home. I would say not to buy something new and just wear what they give you it is messy and if you get there stuff dirty they wash it!:)
jem0622 replied: I wore their gowns during labor, but my own comfy slippers and socks and used my bathrobe when I was walking around prior to delivery. After delivery I did not wear my own clothes until they disconnected me from any IVs and other miscellaneous and had had my first shower.
Make sure that you pack a little pack (in a gallon sized ziplock) of trial sized shower gel, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, and any other toiletries that you might want. Also, don't forget to ask for extra towels or washcloths as you need them. They might forget to leave you fresh ones.
Also, I don't know if you hospital does this (they should)...but they have an area where you can get stuff to drink and eat at all hours. I didn't know about this with Nathan but I went nuts when Gabe was born. It was so nice to have sandwiches, drinks, and other miscellaneous stuff at hand whenever the urge came up. It also helps you get up and about.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: I bought myself a pair of navy blue flanel pj bottoms and a navy blue t-shirt. In my experience with my first DD hospital pj's are not comfortable!
Schnoogly replied: Our hospital cafeteria was only open during meal times, so we packed a little cooler full of snacks and drinks for DH and I during labor and afterwards. It was really nice to know it was there, and DH never had to leave to eat during labor (which was pretty long!)
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I am taking some pajama bottoms in case I want to change into them. You wear the gown during L&D and have the option to change after you shower. You do bleed a lot so I wouldn't take anything that would get ruined. Just as long as you are comfy. I hate the hospital gowns, but since I will be there just one night I'm sure I will wear the gown and change into my going home outfit the next evening.
HTH!
A&A'smommy replied: well i had a c-cection so i had to wear the gown and for a while i couldnt even move it hurt so bad...but you do bleed a lot so something cheap and comfortable.
