What do you take for a cold?
sparkys2boys wrote: As in over the counter meds? I have a terrible head cold that I can't shake and nothing seems to be helping, so I was wondering what you would normally take?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I don't normally take anything, I don't normally get colds...
ETA - Try Buckley's though... when I do have to take something, that's what I take..and disgusting, but works.
momofone replied: Vitamin C Honey & Tea Echinecea Zinc Cold -Eeze Air bourne
Not all at once
:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied: I take Nyquil gel-tabs at night and Day-quil gel-tabs during the day. I cannot stand to take liquid meds so the gel-tabs work great for me.
lisar replied: I take regular tylenol. All that other stuff makes me sleepy.
coasterqueen replied: Motrin for the headache. Tea with honey and lemon for sore throat, cough, etc. Emergen-C to boost Vitamin C intake, Cold-Eeze for sore throat, too.
grapfruit replied: If you take Zicam or something, make sure it's not on an empty belly. It makes you a little queasy (like I am now).
If you eat, it's all good.
luvmykids replied: The Emergen-C really perks me up better than anything else, but I also like the Alka Seltzer Plus Cold, it's fizzy and doesn't taste wonderful but it helps me get through the day. HOpe you're able to kick it soon
Marcia Mellow replied: I don't get colds too often *knock on wood*, and when I do I'm usually pregnant (lol) so I can't take any meds. When I get a sore throat with my cold I always gargle with salt water. Old fashioned, but it helps so much!
stella6979 replied: I just usually drink lots and lots of orange juice.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: BTW - per milligram... strawberries have wayyyy more vitamin C than oranges.
DillsMommy replied: I like the blue liquid stuff, I think it's made by tylenol. They have a night time one too that really helps you sleep better at night.
Calimama replied: Vitamin C tablets and I drown myself in liquids.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Ditto. I take EXACTLY those two products. The C drink when I feel the cold coming on. And the Alka Seltzer to help me sleep and clear my head.
There is also something called Ocean (I think) that is a saline nasal spray. It helps clean out the sinuses. My doctor warned me to NOT use Afrin sprays. They are dangerous, so he recommended the natural saline stuff instead...and it actually worked better!
Brias3 replied: I find that taking zinc works wonders. It tastes disgusting, but really works. Even when a cold has already developed, the severity for me really goes down once I use these. I typically take the Coldeeze tabs- they're like cough drops and come in a few flavors to lessen the gross-ness of how zinc tastes!
kimberley replied: only when i am really sick and home remedies aren't working will i take tylenol cold and flu. the night time stuff totally knocked me out so be careful taking that one.
