What do you normally do

You???
moped replied: Oh geez, now that I think about it I didn't do that with my cousin - BLAH I suck!
luvbug00 replied: depends on the age of the sibling. any kid under 6 would get a small somthing. But by 6 I would hope they would grasp that this is time to share the spotlight.
redplaydoh replied: I always do because they need to celebrate their new role as a brother or a sister.
I buy a small toy just for them and I also buy a small (cheap) diaper bag and fill it with sample baby stuff, burp cloths, rattles etc which is the diaper bag for the brother or sister to use with the baby.
gr33n3y3z replied: I only buy a gift for the child intended
stella6979 replied: I think buying a little something special for the other child is a nice idea. When my SIL has her baby, I plan on getting each of the boys something.
5littleladies replied: When it's a second child and they are at that age of awareness (probably 2-4ish) I like to get the older sibling a little something, just so they know they are special too. When it gets to number 3 and so on I figure it's about time those kids realize that life doesn't revolve around them so no gift for them-I leave that to the parents.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: A lot of my close friends are having their second child, so I went ahead and bought a little something for the older sibling as well as the new baby. My friends did it for Wil when Wesley came along. But just something small like a book, stickers, crayons, little car.
mummy2girls replied: yes buy for the older child as well. Because in the next few days that baby will get tons of gifts and the older child will feel left out and sad. It makes them feel just as specialk and important as the new baby!
Calimama replied: I usually do.
my2girls replied: I do too. I usually buy things that will occupy their time like (one of the following) and for ages 6 and under only:
coloring books and crayons maze books and pencils legos matchbox cars barbies ( or other doll) easy reader books
I always buy a gift for mom also because it seems like once the baby is out everyone forgets about mom. I get her (one of the following):
bubblebath and salts chocolates and hot cocoa or tea packs gift card to her favorite store stationary for the thank you cards, stamps and a really nice pen
I also big them dinner for that night. It helps both Mom and Dad.
moped replied: WOW - you are good!!!!!
I really don't know this girl or her family very well - literally just talked over the fence to them.
I would love to cook them dinner but honestly I don't have time to cook my own family dinner with everything, but I can get them gifts
lovemy2 replied: Yep - I buy one for both....and I make sure I greet the older child first when I go over and ask them to show me their brother/sister - I found when Dylan was born the people that came over and put her in charge of introducing them she was great - the ones that walked in and oogled over Dylan and then said hi to her - she wasn't so great while they were there to visit
TANNER'S MOM replied: I usually buy for both. Something small..or something with the I'm a big brother/sister them.
I love the idea of the small diaper bag. That is cute and I think it would be neat.
I have done newborn dolls, even for boys..lol
Boo&BugsMom replied: Yep. I always buy a big sibling gift. We did that for Tanner too when Aiden was born.
Farelle replied: Definitely, the older child will prb start feeling jealous so getting a small gift for them is always good!
