What do you miss about - your home state??

mckayleesmom wrote: For those that have since moved away from home.

1. Cactus Cooler Soda, Squirt and Ruby Red Squirt...and New York Seltzers (what happened to NYS's?)

2. Raging waters..even though I wouldn't be caught in a bathing suit right now

3. DisneyLand....Its smaller and not as hectic as Disneyworld...Plus I lived nearby and could go when I wanted.

4. Knotts Berry Farm.....I practically grew up at that theme park on the weekends and love their cookies and jams.

5. My family.....sometimes... rolling_smile.gif

6. Sidewalks....Why is it that nobody has sidewalks anymore. The newer developed Cali might not have them, but the cities I grew up in did.

7. Ice Cream Trucks...They are always around when you need them. rolling_smile.gif Most Cali Ice cream trucks carry more then ice cream also...All sorts of different snacks from different cultures....I personally am a huge fan of the Sololito's.(sp?). They also sell food.....The drive through comes to you.

8. The fourth of July. Most states have designated fire work displays, but when I was growing up the display was in your front yard in the street. I know some cities banned it though. When I was growing up the whole neighborhood would do them in the street while the kids sat on the curbs.

9. Curbs...I haven't lived anywhere with a curb in so long. Also...addresses were painted on the curbs..so it was easy to see.

10. The San Diego zoo and The Childrens Museum. Those were the 2 places we always went on field trips. I have a picture on my desk from Kindergarten and know that the dress I'm wearing was ripped at the childrens museum on the ambulance door. You could get in the ambulance and see how everything worked.

mckayleesmom replied: 11. Street Venders. Their are guys that walk around with these medal carts...Kind of like Ice cream men, but they are on foot. They sell all kinds of stuff. Tamale's, Corn with this yummy seasoning, Shish ca bobs SP?, and these really yummy popsicles with huge chunks of fruit in them.

12. Swap meets...Kind of like Flea Markets, but most are outdoors. Lots of different foods sold and sometimes even rides.

13. Drive in Movie Theatres...The one I went to as a kid is still up and running the last I knew.

JessC replied: I still live in my home state, but if I ever was to move I would miss all the trees here in oregon. smile.gif And of course my family happy.gif

luvmykids replied: I love it so much here, it's actually hard to think of things I miss about NM laugh.gif

All that really comes to mind is friends and family, and the food. Nobody does it like NM, no offense but I've never ever had "real" Mexican food anywhere else...in NM when you say you want chile, you get it, not some soupy sauce that doesn't look or taste at all like true green chile. I kind of miss the mountains, they're beautiful to look at. But I'll call take all the green around here over the mountains.

My2Beauties replied: Since I live in my home state now, if I were to ever move I'd miss

- having 4 distinct seasons

- the Waterfront

- Derby

- Oaks

- My friends and family obviously

- The clubs here are pretty fun

- Having like 3 big theme parks within an hour and a half of me

mckayleesmom replied:
Have you ever been to that park that has the Kangaroo's? We were going to go before we left Kentucky, but didn't get around to it. Mckaylee did get to hold a baby kangaroo though, they brought one to the post.

My2Beauties replied:
No, it's Kentucky Down Under? I have never been there. It sounds like fun!

mckayleesmom replied:
yep..

I couldn't think of the name.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
I used to LOVE New York Seltzers! What DID happen to those?! They were great.
Where do you live now again? I can't believe you don't have Squirt and Ruby Red Squirt... I thought they had that everywhere. I love Squirt. happy.gif

I still live in my home state... can't think of much I'd miss about MN if we moved. tongue.gif I love having four seasons, but one of them in particular overstays its welcome every year and that I could live without. dry.gif And the mosquitoes. And the humidity in the summer. dry.gif

youngmomofone replied: we were gone from our home state for 4 years. Now we are back, but not in the city anymore. What I missed is the city. I missed being able to get on a bus to go to the store a couple miles away. I missed being 15 min from a mall instead of an hour drive. I missed having restaurants, target, and best buy near by. I missed not living somewhere where there was only one road to get in and out of the town.

My2Beauties replied: I have more

- The convenience of everything being near me, you can't go anywhere in Louisville where there isn't a grocery store, a Wal-Mart or other type of super store, gas stations, and restaurants. Pretty much every area of town within city limits is covered with all of those.

- The cleanliness of our city, I've been to other large cities and they are so dirty compared to Louisville

- Jefferson Mall

- I feel safe here in most areas, we have crime but I don't think it's as awful as some cities, I go out to bars with my friends on Sat nights and we park blocks away from the club and walk and have never had a problem

- It's just HOME, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else

jcc64 replied: I now live in upstate NY. Here's what I miss about northern NJ.:
being just 13 miles away from NYC--God did I have some crazy times hanging out there as a teenager/young adult.
AWESOME ethnic food, especially Italian and Chinese
great bread/bagels
the ice cream man
only having to drive a mile to get just about anything
being able to walk to school
the malls --Paramus, NJ--more malls per square mile than anywhere else

what I don't miss:
the traffic
obnoxious rich people who think they own the planet
the rudeness (though there's still plenty of it here, too)
lack of privacy
overabundance of cops and hassles
no open space, places to get out in nature and catch your breath

great question, btw.

DVFlyer replied: Not sure how to define "home town" for me. Born in CT, moved to NJ, then to CO, then out to So Cal....

We moved from the east coast when I was young, so I don't remember too much about it. Colorado was great, but nothing beats So Cal's weather.
