What do you give to drink with diarrhea?

MommyToAshley wrote: When we went out to eat for my birthday dinner, the food came out cold and we had to send it all back. Ashley had eaten some of the food though... and I think that upset her tummy the next day. She did not sleep well at all then then she finally threw up in the morning and then had diarrhea the rest of the day. (She was fine other than the diarrhea and being really hyper from not having much sleep) I didn't want to give milk because she had thrown up once and I didn't want to give juice because of the diarrhea. I know there is pedialyte, but what else do you give to drink when they have diarrhea?

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Gatorade. Neither of mine will touch Pedialyte or the pedialyte pops...Our dr said as long as they are drinking some kind of liquid and there are sugars and salts in it they will be fine.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Usually gatorade, or water, or soda if she just won't take anything else to keep her hydrated.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Pedialyte or gatorade, but nothing red.

jcc64 replied: Gatorade, or just plain water. In small amounts, incrementally.
Hope she feels better soon!

C&K*s Mommie replied: dito.gif Gatorade, & Pedialyte

ilovemybaby replied: Give her banana to eat. I think that's good for diarrhea. It hardens the poos. I know it's a fruit but I had gastro when I was a baby (6 months old) and that's what the doctor told my mother to give me. I had banana sandwiches a lot. LOL

MommyToAshley replied:
She was on the "BRATY" diet for a day, but she is doing much better. I knew what to feed her, but I didn't know what to give her to drink other than water and pedialyte.

It only lasted a day and she seems to have gotten it out of her system. She'll miss those bananas though. She loves bananas but under normal circumstances, we have to limit her bananas or she gets constipated. happy.gif

ilovemybaby replied: Oh yeah so true... everything in moderation smile.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: either pedialyte or iced tea smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: humm interesting that so many of you said gatoraid, I was told thats a big NO NO when they have diarrhea.

glad she is better smile.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
I never thought about gatoraide either. Ashley hated the taste of pedialyte and won't drink it. So, I googled it, and gatoraide is a good second choice. Here's an article, just FYI.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: A nurse I work with said a little bit of watered down orange juice with a pinch of salt in it.

That's what they give the old fogies here in the summertime... they add salt to the juice... keeps em hydrated - they retain water.. and the salt makes them drink more...

A&A'smommy replied: I have always been told gatoraid or pedialyte.. I'm glad she is feeling better!!

Mom2Boyz replied: I always try to get Conner to drink water before anything else. If he won't drink that I'll give him either gatorade or diluted juice.

I'm glad Ashley is feeling better wub.gif It's sure no fun when they are sick!!

LovinMyGirls replied: Pedialyte

mckayleesmom replied:
Thats funny because I was told to give gatorade and not pedialite..... rolling_smile.gif I think it just depends on the doctor....Poison control told me to use gatoraide when Mckaylee ate all those laxatives. blink.gif

Brias3 replied: Yep Gatorade (Ryan and Aliyah refused the Pedialyte...never tried it with Mason yet due to their reactions).
