What do you do for dinner on practice/game nights?

luvmykids wrote: Colt has baseball practice/games at such weird hours that I can't figure out what to feed the kids on those days....they have an hour and a half before practice/games, and we don't get home until close to 8. So either way, whether we snack first and have dinner after or have a very early dinner and a snack when we get home, it has to be fast.

Fast food isn't an option for the simple fact we live outside of town and there is nothing on the way so I need fast, easy meal ideas please biggrin.gif

Nina J replied: Why not cook something you can freeze and reheat the night before, or on the weekend? Like stew or soup. If you made soup then you could reheat it it and cook some garlic bread or something.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Crock pot meals!

Brias3 replied: I love doing grilled cheese and soup, quesadillas, chicken Caesar salad, pasta salad and bread, chicken/tuna/or egg salad on pitas with fruit, etc. I don't like heating up an entire meal, so I try to do alot of cold dishes on those nights.

I know how it is though- I always try to plan something quick, but sports nights are such a pain dinner-wise!

MommyToAshley replied: It seems like all activities are right when dinner should be.

On dance nights, I usually do a crock pot meal, like roast. Or I make something the day before that can be reheated (like spaghetti) and we heat that up. I also stop at subway sometimes and then just steam some veggies to go along with it.

Crystalina replied: Pizza or more times then not we hit the local ice-cream shop where they make the BEST burgers!

Sorry, I must have missed your "fast food isn't an option" part.

mom21kid2dogs replied: We do rotissire chicken on nights when we need a quick meal. You can put it on salads, make chicken tortilla wraps with ranch dressing, lettuce & cheese, or make chicken quesidillas.

coasterqueen replied: We used to just eat out, but that won't work anymore with Megan's food allergies. So now we pack a sack "dinner" the morning of the practice/games. We don't even have time to eat a crock pot meal because we have to take off work early to get them at the sitter and take them straight to practice/game. We get about 30 minutes once we get there to eat our sack dinner. So those nights are considered our "light meal" nights, which isn't such a bad thing sometimes. happy.gif We usually have a sandwich, chips, and LOTS of fruit biggrin.gif and the girls have milk or juice and Dh/I have water.

Kaitlin'smom replied: DH will either feed her dinner or a snack before the the other after. depends on how hungry she is. we have been know to pick something up on the way home but I prefer to eat at home and just do something easy.

Jamison'smama replied: oooo, I love the sack meal idea. On Jamison's gymnastics nights, cooking dinner is just impossible--she goes from 5-7. Dance nights start at 6 so dinner is quick and easy--we do a lot of soup, sandwiches, etc. We have also been known to have cereal and toast for dinner. We are not always the best example of the way things should be done...my goal is to keep their expectations low, their spouses will thank me later.

luvmykids replied:
I love that rolling_smile.gif

Thanks for all the good ideas, I really like the sack dinner idea too...I can get it ready and we can just grab it and go thumb.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
LOVE rotisserie chicken! I pull the meat off of them and mix gravy in with the meat to make sandwiches. I also sometimes mix the meat with marinara sauce, put it in a bun with some mozzerella cheese...YUMMY sandwiches!

mckayleesmom replied: I would just do a picnic lunch...for dinner.

paradisemommy replied: i always pack their dinners because their practice is so far away and traffic is HORRIBLE so after practice we just kinda hang out in the back of the car and have a picnic dinner - i have those tupperware containers with the different compartments so i pack rice, some type of meat, and fresh cut up veggies and i'll bring a little side of ranch - the kids think it's the best to have a picnic for dinner and by the time we get home it's late so we bathe, read stories and go to bed!!

holley79 replied: Crock pot dishes are pretty good. I have a crock pot pasta recipe I'll email to you.
