What do 14 year old girls want for xmas? - need gift ideas for SIL
Schnoogly wrote: Help! We can't get her online gift certificates this year b/c they don't have internet access anymore. And I don't know what stores she has around her.
I don't even know what bands are "hot" now.
Kaitlin'smom replied: ohh sorry I dont have a clue the closest girl I have to buy for that age is 8 and I got her clothes and stuff for My Scene doll, where do they live? I bet you could still get a gift card to someplace, if you have a few in mind you can check out ther websites and see if they are in her area. Sorry I am not much help....
kimberley replied: cash or a girt certificate to the mall or a music store. most teen girls will absolutely hate anything you get them unless you know them well and it is something they have been asking for. isn't there a certain music store that is in just about every town? can you maybe look on the net to see what stores are in her town? it really depends on what type of music she likes to know the latest hot bands. could be anything from country to rap sorry i am not much help.
DansMom replied: Depends on the girl of course, but I would suggest: Art supplies, a diary/journal, really nice pens (gels and neon inks) and specialty paper, earrings and other jewelry in a mature style.
Gift certificates are good too!
paradisemommy replied: well my niece is 12 and i bought her a poster and calender of beckham (famous soccer player) that she is in love with. my other niece is 11 and i bought her a backpack and a package of beads that you can make your own jewelry. she loves jamba juice and would have loved to get a g/c from there, she also wanted a Lil' Bratz Fashion Mall and a Disney Princess Game for a Gameboy Advance..
not sure if that helped or not but i would think if you don't know her all that well - money is the best thing and probably the most appreciated!!
jen replied: I would get MAKE-UP. Like lip gloss, flavored glittery chap sticks. They all wear glittery light colors. or nail polish or a manicure kit maybe a bath basket with all kinds of different lotion and bubble bath. You could go to bath and body works and get a little basket. I got one with a body spray and lotion in a little basket with a bear for 20 dollars and it was Pear Berry, It was a light fragrance appropriate for a younger age! That is tough! Good luck!
jem0622 replied: So that you don't upset the parents....I would stick with music or bath products (like Bath & Body Works). Maybe a shower gel, lotion, and splash set. Freesia or vanilla is always safe scents. Or you could get her a magazine subscription. Marie Claire and Seventeen are usually safe. But you might want to check with her parents before you did that to make sure that they were okay with the content.
The other option would be to contact a nail salon near her house and buy a gift certificate for her to have a manicure and pedicure. Those are always fun.
She is beyond Barbie and things like that at this stage.

Jamison'smama replied: I bought my niece-- age 14 a purse and belt from Dehlias. Initials are really hot with that age group so a purse with her initial on it or a bracelet--I saw those in the Department stores earier this week. My neice is also into Care Bears so she is getting some Care Bear stuff for her room from my parents.
Let's see, what else did our family get her....a portable CD player, GIFT CERTIFICATES---she wanted them to Walmart for music and stuff. She wanted the movies--Sweet Home Alabama, Legally Blonde, Finding Nemo and Lizzie Maguire.
Hope you think of something.
Guest replied: I agree with the Bath & Body Works and/or magazine subscription. Those were my two choices :-) The other big ones are cash and mall gift certificates. That is what I always get my SIL and BIL. Now that they are 19 and 17 I just give them cash. They can use it however they want to.
coasterqueen replied: OOps that last one was me, thought I was logged in, lol.
Schnoogly replied: Hey thanks! I like the bracelet w/ initials idea, and the bath stuff. Her parent (Dh's mom) would not care about any content at all for movies or magazines. But I'm sure I will get some kind of guilt trip about how they are so broke they couldn't get Iain anything, yadda yadda. DH's mom is bipolar and totally nuts and can't keep a job and his stepdad is a loser ex-con who wastes all their money gambling (and also can't keep a job). But his sister deserves something nice for Christmas.
A&A'smommy replied: money because 14 year olds are REALLY hard to buy for!!!
ediep replied: my neice is 12 and I got her a jogging suit and a t shirt....she is sort of a tom-boy. It really cute...navy blue, cargo pockets, loose bottom, and the jacket is kind of short with a zipper and hood. The t-shirt has a Christmas tree and the ornaments are beads on the shirt. Hope she likes it
Schnoogly replied: Well the problem with money and gift certificates is that her parents might take them from her and use them to buy themselves crap or waste it. Yeah, that's terrible, but it will happen. So I like to buy things that only she will use, or that she only has access to.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I hate when parents do that! Kaitlin got some money after she was born and I put it into a bank accout in her name for her when she is older, I plan to do this with money she gets for christmas or birthday unless there is something she needs that I can't afford.
I like the idea of the inital braclet or necklace and bath and body works....love that place!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: You are right, she deserves something special. I also like the idea of an initial bracelet...those initial purses are 'in', too. 14 yo girls like makeup and cosmetic bags...bath and body works is good...magazine subscription is great! I always got that from my grandmother. Perfume or anything 'girly' if she is a girly girl.
