What color should I paint my bedroom?
Hillbilly Housewife wrote: My bedset is a dark taupe, almost brown color, my furniture is mahogany with black counter-like tops and black tubing-type handles.
I have dark red curtains on my window.
I have 3 big goldleaf frames with a dark red mat....same color as the curtains.
I have 2 light beige lamps, with silver tubing base - which I`m going to be painting black to match the black tubing handles
I have very little clutter in my room - my wooden jewelery box, which I want to paint to match the room, and 3 big crackled glass candle holders in goldish brackets in front of my dresser mirror.
I have a big sliver tv on my armoire, which is mahogany and black like the rest of the furniture.
Any ideas? I don`t want to paint the room red.
moped replied: Terracotta
Jamison'smama replied: I'm going to say--a khaki color.
3xsthefun replied: Maybe a light brownish color like a tan or something. Or maybe a greyish color? I don't know. I'm not good at coming up with colors that match good.
Our bedroom is a medium blue. I'm not sure what it is call, since my grandma gave the paint to us. But I like it.
mckayleesmom replied: Well...I would say a pretty sage color......if you change curtains to another color or it won't work. Kind of a mint chocolate theme.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Like the khaki as we think it is? That greenish color?
Or the real khaki - which is like orangish?
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Sounds like you have really rich colors in your room...how about just a clean white?? I'm not sure what color it is now...but I love the contrast of dark wood with clean walls. And your curtains would look great next to a lighter wall. Or maybe put a hint of blue or silver in the white to cool it down. My house has beige and sage and khakis throughout and let me tell you...I hate how dark it is. The former owner painted it that way. And although it looks nice with our furniture, if everything is beige like, it's so BROWN and matchy. kwim?
I would get Pottery Barn catelogues or Restoration Hardware and look for room pics that I like and copy them. Good luck!
Jamison'smama replied: No I am thinking like the khaki that is more of a tan
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: With the dark furniture and curtains, I would suggest a light beige color. Something warm, though. If you paint it too dark your room may feel like a cave.
CantWait replied: I have no suggestions. Have you made a decision yet?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I haven`t yet made a decision - I really like neutrals for walls (except the kids rooms)
so I was thinking a tan color - I guess like the Khaki Karen described... or, like a mustard-y color...maybe not so much like mustard, but a yellow corn type of color
I sitll don`t know....
The walls are crisp white now - we are the first 'tenants', and the walls haven`t been touched other than the white. I usually like the contrast too - but this is too MUCH of a contrast... I want to tone it down somewhat.
Silver sounds nice - maybe I`ll get like a paint thing of glaze and just rag it over the white.... maybe gold...
Decisions, decisions.... lol
beautifullychaotic replied: I personally would try a darker olive color it would make the red pop nice and make it seem more accenty.
I also suggest getting a bunch of paint swatches to bring home so you can compare them in the different lights of the room. Thats what we did when we re-did the living room the one color we really like the look of in the store looked completely different in the light at home and they way the sun made it look was just awful made me kinda glad I just brought home a swatch instead of buying the paint.
