What can I do for her poor nose?

MommyToAshley wrote: Ashley's nose has a big scab on it from where she fell on the side walk. The problem is that it is on the side (close to the nostril) so when she blows her nose or when I wipe her nose (being very very careful), it breaks open. I have been putting neosporin on it. (When I called the Ped about Ashley hitting her head twice, she also told me to put neosporin on the abbrasions.) What else can I do to keep the scab from cracking back open so it can heal? I feel so bad, the other day she was really stuffy when she woke up and I put some saline drops in her nose and a little got on her scrape and she screamed! I felt so bad! bawling.gif

Heather replied: AWW Poor thing. I would just keep using the neosporin. Maybe you can try aquaphor as well. Hope Ashley feels better soon.

Heather replied: Oh yeh, as much as that saline hurt her...it helps to keep the scab clean too. That is a horrible place to have a sore but it will heal!! I heard somewhere that facial scraps heal faster than any other place on the body.

chloe&tysmommy replied: awe poor Ashley. I like to use neosporin also on scrapes or cuts, it seems to work really good! <<<big hugs for little Ashley>>>hope it heals soon

Kaitlin'smom replied: poor little thing, I like neosporn, but I have found polysporin better. I find it heals faster. it what I use now.

hope it heals soon!

barelysanewith5 replied: Have you tried to help baby get rid of the stuffy nose to avoid all the wiping? I don't use prescription meds for my nine year olds "allergies" anymore...she was low on a certain set of vitamins and salt. The ped was sure it was allergies and for the last three winters I have been giving her 3-4 different meds. that never seemed to work. Then I went to a "health and spice shop" and after telling the "specialist" of her troubles...I went home with a multi-vitamin and a "salt" that her body seemed to be in need of...I'll be darned if after two hours of taking this stuff her nose cleared up and she has not taken a prescription since. YEAH ! thumb.gif It's all natural by the way...unlike the meds the ped sends us to the pharmacy for. Anyway...the point of the long story is this...the health shop has drops for baby and small children to give them at the first sign of a cold...it will help baby's body fight the cold naturally by boosting their immunity system and baby should feel relief in half the time or less. That is on my list to get the next time I am there...as it is only a matter of time before my 13 month old gets a cold. GOOD LUCK and I hope baby's nose looks and feels better soon.

mckayleesmom replied: Have you tried putting any liquid bandaid on it yet? That might seal it a little better so it doesnt' keep cracking open. Poor baby.

MomToJade&Jordan replied:
I was actually going to suggest this or even just a small regular bandaid. That at least will cover it up when you have to wipe her nose. The neosporin is the best way to go though besides that.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: grouphug.gif Awww poor Ashley! I hope it heals over soon!

MommyToAshley replied:
Thanks for the info. She doesn't really have a stuffy nose, it is because we have electric heat and it is really dry. We've had it on lately, and I keep forgetting to pick up an extra humidifier for her room at night. The furnace has one on it, but it still gets dry even if we use it. So, I used the saline to moisten it up for her. smile.gif I'm going to try to get her a humidifier today.

I'll remember your suggestion if she gets a cold though. Thanks.

MommyToAshley replied:
I hadn't thought of that... I didn't know there was such a thing. I will have to check the store for it! Thanks!

mckayleesmom replied: I think you can get it anywhere. I keep some in the medicine cabinet..I hate bandaids
