What are your 5 year olds getting?

DVFlyer replied: $50!!?? For one item or total??

I want to be your kid! biggrin.gif

moped replied:
For one item.....my parents and my in laws have asked me to find a gift for the kids, my mom said $100 and his mom said $80......so I want to get a gift of about $40 and give them the rest of the $$.........

So I am shopping for parents really......

CantWait replied: webkinzs

boyohboyohboy replied: I really like the leapster 2, and it said its ages were for 3-8.
It has tons of games.

moped replied:
We got him ds, so no need for the leapster.....

Any boys here like Bakugan??

coasterqueen replied: Is he in to legos? My friend's 5 year old is in love with Indiana Jones right now and he's gotten several of the IJ lego sets and loves them. DS games too. Can never have too many of those. What about a DS kit (has plug-in, ear phones, cases for games, etc)? I think he'll love the DS - Megan asked for one for Christmas because she plays her sister's all the time - I think Santa is gonna have to get her one. tongue.gif

coasterqueen replied:
I don't know about others, but Megan got bored with hers this year. She got it last year for Christmas. She's already playing her sister's DS.

moped replied:
A kit??????????? What???

Please show me!!!!!

coasterqueen replied: I couldn't find the one Kylie got last Christmas, but this one is close: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3788216

Here are a ton of different ones: http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?sr...CatId=&view=all

Hers came with "skins" (sticker decorations for the DS), etc. I noticed when looking that they have speaker kits I hadn't seen before - definitely going to look into them for the girls thumb.gif (i.e. here's one http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3740488)

coasterqueen replied: I don't know about others, but Kylie uses her kit for carrying it, storing games, etc - I LOVE the thing because it keeps everything in that little case.

coasterqueen replied: I found it. This is the one Kylie got last year, but hers was purple:

Jamison'smama replied: My Jack still loves Imaginext, he has the Bat Cave and Castle but he wants the new dragon castle. There is also a really cool Imaginarium castle. Jack loves to sit and play with toys/characters --Knights, Star Wars, Super Heros and Power Rangers.

moped replied: That is great!!!! So what is the difference between a DS and a DS lite? The one I got him is not a lite, just a regular ds

bluebear replied: Those are the fat ones...the first version came out ~5 years ago. DS is much much bigger than the DS Lite, but they're pretty much the same. You can put gameboy advance games (only those) in the 2nd slot on the bottom and they will not stick out. There are only two brightness settings on the regular DS, bright and off. Some games aren't compatable with those because of the bottom port (guitar hero won't work) because on the DS Lite the gameboy advance games stick out, and the port is smaller. The ac adapter is also different for all 3 DS versions.

I honestly wouldn't get those little plastic game cases. They're tiny and your kids would be much better off with the game book cases.

It's hard looking for accessory kits for DS, as the Lite has been out for 3 years.

coasterqueen replied: Hmm, didn't know they sold the regular DS' anymore. Kylie's is the lite version and I guess it's just lighter than the old one.

coasterqueen replied:
My daughter uses the cases all the time as long as she keeps them in her kit they don't get lost. happy.gif

bluebear replied: I know what you're talking about about putting them inside the DS case, but they still sell them separate and they do get lost. My 10 year old cousin is proof rolleyes.gif

I didn't think they sold the fat DS anymore either...my brother works at Toys r Us and they only sell the Lite and DSi. M oped, did you buy it brand new, unopened?

the lite is very different in size.

moped replied: Yes I got it at walmart for $92 on sale I believe.........so I should be taking it back for a lite? I better check it tonight and see what I got

boyohboyohboy replied:
my kids all love these too! they play with them from ages 2-8..it really entertains them for hours.

Celestrina replied: Right now there is the DS lite and the DSi http://www.nintendo.com/ds

The DSi has better graphics that the original DS and DS lite.

bluebear replied: There isn't a difference, honestly. I've had all 3 and the screen is *slightly* bigger and it's brighter.

I think the DSLite is $100 now, so I think you got ripped off with the price of the old ds. is it silver?

You can take it back if you really want to yourself... I think they just had it at the warehouse and just put it on the shelves to get rid of it tbh.
ds lite has a lot of colors (I think... I know the original colors are discontinued)

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Katy has a ds Matt has very little interest. He is much more jump around the room and spaz smile.gif
He is probably getting transformers, and bakugan stuff. Bakugan is a huge hit with both of the boys.

ZandersMama replied: zanders getting a mario and wario race car track smile.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: Thomas is not quite 5 but he's really into drawing lately so I want to get him some drawing stuff, maybe a little desk. Other than that I really don't know. He would LOVE a DS but we think he's too young, for now he can keep loving his Leapster.

PrairieMom replied:
Is it this one?
http://www.firebox.com/product/2013/Mario-Kart-Go

Cause my sister got it for Ben last year for christmas, and I can't express how much I hate that thing.
For starters it is HUGE . It takes up the whole living room floor. It says it is for 8 year olds , but it took my sister over an hour to set the darn thing up, and then once its up, it is really hard to keep the cars on the track. They always go flinging off on the first curve.
To top it all off, Mario's head came off.
Ben loves it tho. He rarely gets to play with it, because of the time and space that is involved.

ZandersMama replied:
darn it unsure.gif yup thats the one sad.gif

PrairieMom replied:
it has good reviews otherwise, I'm thinking they are from older people. Ben was 5 when i got it for him, and its not easy enough for him to do himself.
Just my personal experience. I know the darn thing isn't cheap, just thought I would add my 2 cents. wink.gif

msoulz replied: C'mon, Mom, all the cool 5-year olds are getting cell phones!!! rolleyes.gif

PrairieMom replied:
Yeah, Ben is trying to pull that one on me, that, and I want a TV in my room, and a computer, and a "Mario Set" what ever that is. rolleyes.gif

This kid thinks that you can just type Mario into a search engine and find any type mario item you could ever hope for, type in your Credit card #, and it can be yours. rolleyes.gif sad.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
LOL... Ashley tried that when she was younger, and she even added "make sure it has a good camera on it" rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif She's given up because she has come to the conclusion that she's not getting one until she is much older.

What about one of the kid tough cameras? I know Ashley really liked hers at around that age. She's not a boy, but I think most kids like them regardless of gender -- they make blue ones too.

msoulz replied:
Yep, my son, who will be 11 on Saturday ( bawling.gif ) has given up too - for now. He had kids in the third grade with the things. blink.gif We told him when he is actually away from us or other adults then we will talk about it - which sounds like maybe middle school (next year - bawling.gif again!)

Legos were huge for Jake at that age too. They have some Star Wars kits that are cool. And those little skateboards that you can change wheels and designs, those were good too.
