What age did you take your children....

When did you all start taking your kids to the dentist?

mckayleesmom replied: I was told 3 also...as long as they have all their molars.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Our Dr. said between 3 and 4.

luvmykids replied: They told me 3 also, just to get them used to it so that if there ever is a problem it's not that plus the first scary visit all at once. (That doesn't mean I've done it though! )

Also, my regular dentist said a lot of dentists will try to talk you into a flouride coating which they say cuts down on cavities, but that once they can brush w/the flouride toothpaste it does a good enough job itself unless the family has really bad dental history.

kit_kats_mom replied: I took K at 2 1/2 but mainly just to get her used to it. She's kind of skittish about things like that so I have to really ease her into it.

I also had my own reasons for taking her. She bites lollipops and it drives me bonkers so I told the lady who I made the appointment with to make sure the dentist mentioned it. She did and now anytime K starts biting a lollypop, I give her the "do I need to call the dentist?" look and she stops.

CantWait replied: Robbie was 3 and a half, we were told 3. Their first visit is just to check if they have all their teeth, and to get them use to all the tools and what they look and sound like, and being in that big chair.

zdk753 replied: I started taking mine at 14 mos. That is when the dentist told us to start bringing them in to get used to everything.

Because of insurance problems (aka - no dental and no money to pay out-of-pocket)....DD#1 didn't have her first dental check-up until she was about 8 -- DD#2 was about 4. DD#3 and DS#1 both started right around their 3rd b-days and DS#2 will start after his 3rd b-day this summer.

PrairieMom replied: the phamplet I got at the dentist office said to make their 1st appt after their 1st birthday, but the hygenist told me age 3. I am plannig a trip there for the boy this summer!

coasterqueen replied: Our dentist says 4 years unless they have issues before hand. Kylie was supposed to go with me a few weeks ago to have her 1st visit just to sit in the chair, etc....but I forgot to bring her.
