What a craptacular day - Nora is sick.

amynicole21 wrote: All last week Nora was puking and coughing up nasty stuff. Then Thanksgiving night I noticed that she had a fever. Well, she's kept that fever through today! That's 7 days straight, and it's gone as high as 103.9. sad.gif Took her to the doc on Saturday and was told it was a virus and call back if it wasn't gone by Tuesday. Took her in on Tuesday and was told it was STILL a virus and call us back if it wasn't gone by today. Took her in today and they FINALLY took it seriously. dry.gif

So, today she was given a strep test (negative), cathiterized to check for a UTI (negative), took two vials of blood to check for infections (no results yet) and had a chest xray done. wacko.gif The radiologist *thinks* he saw some fluid in her lungs, but the Ped couldn't see it on the films. Either way, they say it might be pneumonia and prescribed antibiotics. My poor little babe handled it all like a trooper. She's so exhausted though - and her temp is still 101.

So hopefully the antibiotics do their job and she is feeling better by tomorrow. DH and I have missed so much work, and this week is probably the busiest week of my entire year at work. sleep.gif Oh well. Family comes first! wub.gif

So send some healing vibes our way please. We could really use them.

I don't know if you remember, but Megan went through this last year (or maybe it was earlier this year), it was in the winter season nonetheless. She went over a week with a temp that went high as that at times. I was told it was a virus also. After a week they gave her antibiotics, a few days later the temp went down.

Hopefully the antibiotics work soon. hug.gif hug.gif

jcc64 replied: Hey Amy-
Last year, Alec had a virus for over a week, where he was running temps as high as 104. Keep in mind he was 13- and that's high for a teenager. I kept running back and forth to the dr, and they kept saying virus virus virus but to me, it was presenting like strep throat. The throat cultures were all negative, and I was starting to freak out. Finally, I got another dr, who diagnosed it as a strep infection that was elsewhere in his body. We all could have been spared a week of heavy duty sickness if someone took a little more time with the diagnosis, but that's the way it goes.
Hope the antibiotics are the answer for her. hug.gif

DansMom replied: Oh, that sounds absolutely wretched---such a long time to be fighting a virus. Poor Nora! I hope the ABs do the trick quickly.

amynicole21 replied: Thanks everyone! hug.gif I just got a call that her fever is back up to 102. I am at a loss... the meds should have done a little something by now. sad.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: That's so scary...is the bloodwork back yet???

Kentuckychick replied:
My 14-year-old cousin has had strep twice in her life and both times it has presented in her stomach... and it has been HORRIBLE! The first time, when she was 10 she was sick for an entire month (missed 4 and 1/2 straight weeks of school). She had the vomiting, the stomach cramps and a high fever for a week or so and she said she had a bit of a sore throat in the middle then the cramps returned and she couldn't get out of bed. My aunt finally took her back to the peds for the fifth time and they did both the quick strep test which came back neg. and the one that they send out to the lab... that one came back positive after two days. She was better after two days of antibiotics, but still weak.

The second time she had the same symptoms my aunt demanded they do the lab test the first day... it came back positive.

I didn't even know you could have strep somewhere else!
