We're home! - sorry ~ really long!
~Roo'sMama~ wrote: It feels so good to be back home and to have baby Andrew here with us. Thanks so much everyone for the ELV's! It wasn't exactly easy but I'm sure it could have been much worse. I went into labor sometime around 11 on saturday night at Jennifer's house - I was a little bit in denial because I didn't want to be disappointed again...and because the contractions were coming so close together and that just seemed weird to me - but after a midnight walk with Scott and Jen I was pretty sure it was finally the real thing. Scott and I went home to finish packing my bag and wait for my contractions to get stronger before we went to the hospital and - we thought - to get some rest. After I couldn't find anymore packing or cleaning to do Scott and I played Mario Kart for awhile to get my mind off the contractions ~ I think that's my favorite memory of being in labor. I did try lying down after that because I was getting so tired - but the contractions were still 2-5 minutes apart so I couldn't sleep. Finally around 6 am I thought I couldn't stand it anymore - I was having contractions every 2 to 3 minutes and they HURT. (or so I thought... later I realized that that was nothing.) So we dropped the dog off at Jennifer's house and went to the hospital and, of course, while we were walking down the hall my contractions started coming further apart and less intense. Then we they got me all hooked up and everything and checked me, I found out I was STILL only 1 centimeter dilated. But I was 90% effaced so that was something anyways. Sometime in the morning or afternoon... I don't remember - I got some Nubain and dozed for awhile, then my doctor broke my water and then I realized that I was definitely not strong enough to do this without something stronger. I was such a wuss - the contractions hurt so bad I couldn't breathe through them because I was crying too hard. I didn't want an epidural but the nurse discouraged my idea of just getting more nubain to hold me over until I was closer to pushing and getting a walking epidural. At that point I was in so much pain I didn't care too much. At this point I'd also started throwing up and I was pretty miserable. They had to do the epidural twice because the first time it only worked on one side - that was a little freaky but it worked on the second try and then I got some sleep. I don't remember what time I got the epi but at around 3:30 I was 5 centimeters and the nurse said I'd probably be fully dilated in another 5 hours, so at around 5 Dh left to go get himself some food and some carmex for me, and at a little before 6 they checked me again and I was almost 10 centimeters and Dh wasn't back yet. Now that freaked me out! He got back right before my dr walked in and checked me and I was fully dilated and at 6:30 I started pushing. They had to use suction to get him to descend because he was stuck above my pubic bone - but she let me push his head out all by myself. Finally after 2 and a half hours (and after my dr had told me a few times that I could do it with the next contraction ) Andew James popped out and they took him to see if he'd inhaled any of the meconium~ I didn't get to hold him for an hour. But he was well worth the wait! And his lungs were totally clear: no meconium. He's such a good baby - and so contented! And now it took me so long to write this and now he's waking up so I'd better go feed him. I'll post some pics later!

What really made me laugh was the Mario Kart because when I went into labor at 1 am, my Dh and I tried to play Halo for while waiting for contractions to get stronger.. at 3 am!! LOL. I gave up and went in because the pain was getting ridiculous! Either way, enough relating and CONGRATS again!! I bet it feels so good to be home with your new love!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
I remember going into labor wanting to go all natural and not have an epi, and I ended up having one too. They also had to use suction on Ashley too. But, that doesn't make us a wuss.... it's the end result that matters. I am soooooo happy for you. I can't wait to see the pictures. I just wish we lived close so I could hold little Andrew for myself.
