Well she walked.. they let her off. She was released NO bond.. they talked of just charging with negilent homicide..said it was an accident. But none of her stories added up. It was so tragic for our family, we felt she was going to get away with it. But today..we got this bit of news. I know it is wrong..but this does bring a little relief. It lets us know that someone is looking to make sure she doesn't get away with it some how. The said part is she does have an 8 yr old daughter.
Rivers' charge changed to Murder One by Kyle Mooty Madison County Record Editor Following five days of freedom, Lisa Ann Rivers was arrested again Monday by Madison County Sheriff Phillip Morgan, this time on the charge of murder in the first degree
Rivers, 37, allegedly fired a 30-30 rifle into the chest of Melvin Gerald Burks, 32, during a confrontation Jan. 4 at a Hindsville residence owned by Rivers’ grandfather, Retired Major Richard Rivers. Burks was pronounced dead at the scene when Madison County EMS arrived about 20 minutes after the first 911 call came to the sheriff’s office from Rivers. Rivers had reportedly said the shooting was an accident and Washington County Prosecuting Attorney Terry Jones released her hours after the incident on her own recognizance so she could tend to her grandfather’s needs. Jones’ release of Rivers prompted dozens of angry phones calls to his office, the sheriff’s department and The Madison County Record. Jones changed his mind Monday and asked Morgan to pick Rivers up again, this time on murder one, Judge William A. Storey set a $250,000 bond Monday afternoon. Rivers was still trying to make bond Monday afternoon. Burks and his wife, Misty, have three children, ages 9, 8 and 5. Funeral services for Burks will be Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale. The homicide took place at 2635 Madison 7615 at a residence on the intersection of Madison 7615 and Madison 2035 between Hindsville and Hilltop. Burks was employed as a farm aid for Major Rivers. Lisa Rivers allegedly lived in the upstairs of the house, while her father lived downstairs. Burks allegedly had his own quarters of the house. Lisa Rivers is listed as a nurse and divorced, with her place of birth as Burlington, Vermont. She is 5-foot, 5-inches tall, weighing 135 pounds. Burks was listed as 6-foot tall, weighing 210 pounds. The previous homicide in Madison County was in 2003 when Wayne Warden killed his wife, Fredia Gayle Warden, at 2297 Ball Creek Road.
