Well I took the plunge, head first and
coasterqueen wrote: Dh followed unwillingly. When Kylie got her new furniture, last year or the year before, we didn't want to re-decorate her room. So we left the nursery border theme she had already and added some new wall decor, bedspread and sheets, that's it. WELL, she's really expressed the want for a pink and purple room. Her room now is yellow and purple. She expressed that at the time we did stuff to her room before, but we really didn't want to mess with that border.
I decided we'd redo her room slowly, as we could afford it. So Saturday morning we moved out all the furniture from her room, which is now scattered throughout the house whereever we could put it. Kylie is sleeping in the playroom temporarily and Saturday night I pulled the top layer of the border off. Dh really didn't want to redo her room, but he's helping me. He even suggested painting her walls and he hates colored walls. He's a white wall kinda man. So Kylie's room will be the first to have color on it. She picked Summer Blossoms, which to me looks like pink cotton candy. The plan is to repaint the top half white (her room hasn't been painted in 6 years), and the bottom half pink with a pink/purple flower border in the middle of the wall. Then we'll go from there on everything else. She has a lot of purple accessories in her room so we can work with that.
I'll take some pics as we go along. It will be a slow process as we only have so much money at a time to spend on it. Kylie is very excited, though. We hope to have it done by Christmas, or right after. She may get some of the stuff for her room for Christmas .
Kaitlin'smom replied: Sounds good. I to am in the process of re-doing Kait room. Mainly new funiture, the theme is staying as it was just dont not that long ago. I am tring to stall it off till christmas/birthday for the new funiture. Plus I have ALOT more cleaning out I need to do.
PS the color sounds pretty I cant wait to see pics.
MommyToAshley replied: Sounds so pretty! I can't wait to see the pics!!!
I have been shopping for a new bed for Ashley... have been for awhile. I hope to find one by Christmas.
coasterqueen replied: GL, hope you find one.
You know it really is such a hard decision to make. Especially if you are trying to find one that will last them through highschool. That was our goal. We were buying the bedroom set that would last her til she left home. So that's what we bought, but ideally it would have been better to get something like bunk beds or a twin, because the full size bed is just too big for the room. Dh disagrees with me of course, but well ya know. Kylie likes hers, it's just that the bed takes up so much room.
Kaitlin'smom replied: thats what I was running into was I wanted something that would last, but her room just wont hold much more than a twin, could do a full but then it will get to tight in there. She also DOES not want anythign with a foot board so that deffinalty rule out alot of beds. I think we have found what we want to get her. Just working on the room layout to make sure it will all flow well.
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, the one good thing about Kylie's room, is there isn't a lot of room in there with the full bed, BUT we have a rule that a bedroom is to sleep in and that's that. So we made the den into the playroom and that's where she plays. When she's older, that will be the girls study room, so she really doesn't need that much room in her bedroom anyways. KWIM? So that's Dh's thought process on it. Hope it works out that way.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Look forward to seeing the pics!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Sounds nice! Good luck with your project! BTW, I had a twin bed up until my third year in college...so my boys will too! LOL!
coasterqueen replied: DH and I slept in a twin bed for a year or so before we could afford a bigger bed.
Not a mean mom DH had a full size bed, my sis did too, he just likes them better.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: That's funny...we must have been posting at the same time, because I just took out the "mean mom" part in my reply. I thought about it and said "hey, that's not mean, just practical!" Besides, MY mom knew that a bigger bed meant sleepovers in college...LOL!
coasterqueen replied:
That's great! Your mom was smart.
kimberley replied: aww that will be beautiful! can't wait to see pics when it's all done. glad Ryan is on board
Kaitlin'smom replied: I wish I had a place for all her toys, but I dont want to lose my living room again to them ALL, so I did not have much choise but to put most in her room. I would rather have a play room, just dont have anyplace for one Other wise a full woudl be fine in her room, but with the toys it woudl be to much
coasterqueen replied: I can understand that Di We got lucky with DH's den being right there by the girls rooms. Our playroom is SO small, it's pathetic. I had to recently move all Kylie's books that were in the playroom into her room because of space issues AND I did forget to mention earlier that a lot of toys are in Megan's room, but for another purpose. The chick-a-dee gets up at 4 am to nurse and then wants to be up the rest of the day. Soooooo I nurse her then crash on the floor (well I try to sleep ) while she plays with her toys. Mommy's alterior motive to getting some sleep.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I woudl do that to if I were you 4am to early for me, heck 6am is to early but I have to do that during the week. I have hers pretty much figured out she has been good about getting rid of things she no longer wants. I still need to do the closet....that going to be the most time consuming...guess I need to start
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Good For You! Can't wait to see the pictures! Claudia also wants her room re-done, but I think we are going to wait until she is out of a toddler bed.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone. I'll share pics when we start to paint. Tonight I took off the backing layer of the old border and Dh taped everything to get it ready for painting. He also took all the outlet covers off, etc. Tomorrow I have to scrape the remainder of the glue that I didn't get tonight, patch holes from wall hangings, kilz those patches and we will be ready to paint. Kylie is dying to paint, so we are going to let her help us. I hope that works out ok.
